Title: Props receiving shadows
Post by: nbvc on October 08, 2011, 08:29:17 AM
Is there a way to make props receiving shadows which are casted from buildings and other props? I did some tests and it seems that a prop receives shadow, when it is very flat. But such props seem to have Z-fighting problems with textures. Is there a defined height for props which can receive shadows?

In order for a prop to receive a shadow from a nearby building or other prop both the prop and its LODs cannot be any higher than 0.29-0.30m.

(side note)
I know that flora can receive shadows from mountains, but I am not sure if those settings can be transferred as succussfully to props/buildings.
If you look at these pics from a very old region, you will see the effect of the mountainside on the trees (jeronij's eucalypts in particular which were placed as flora as opposed to CPs trees which were props on a lot):

It could make an interesting project to see if that effect could be replicated on everything else in game...
