Bergerland is a small country in northern Europe which brought you the cheese mincer and other ground breaking inventions!

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1193.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Faa358%2Fjordanfrew1994%2FMayor%2520Diary%2FBergerlandFlag-1.jpg&hash=9018951f45e6f594f4f7f5e86a26aab1d2ca8ff7)

Bergerland has a population of around 1.8 million people and the capital city is Askersund (835,000). There are two other cities in Bergerland which are Lillefjell (213,000) and Spydeberg (124,000).  It is one of the densest nations in the world and is bordered by Norway to the east and the Norwegian sea to the west.  The country has one of the highest GDP per capita rates in the world and the economy mainly consists of oil & gas, financial services, aerospace engineering, tourism and electronics.

The country gained independence from Norway in 1946 after the war but keeps up good relations with it's Nordic neighbours.

This is a map of the country showing the major towns and cities along with the principal infrastructure.

In this first update I will show you Parliamentet Øy which is the cultural and political heart of the nation.  It lies just north of the CBD.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1193.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Faa358%2Fjordanfrew1994%2FMayor%2520Diary%2FParliamentetOy-overview.jpg&hash=28f6e9153a29136e0ee11f4bc3876b61a243a6ea)

An overview of the island.  As you can see, it is home to the parliament building and several other businesses and organisations.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1193.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Faa358%2Fjordanfrew1994%2FMayor%2520Diary%2FParliamentetOy-ParliamentSquare2.jpg&hash=11c50b44396c46c5c0fa0b86769b11cd6de45f8a)

This is Parliament Square with the parliament building being the centre piece. The government is elected every 6 years in Bergerland (there are calls to reduce this to 4) and at the moment, the governing party is the Labour Party with Jens Hausenberg as Prime Minister.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1193.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Faa358%2Fjordanfrew1994%2FMayor%2520Diary%2FParliamentetOy-ParliamentSquare1.jpg&hash=c9fb8a6e790b9f3bbacd887423c62698592d0706)

The buildings adacent to the Parliament Building are home to the Belgian, Kenyan, Polis, British, Mexican and Chinese embassies.  There are many more embassies and consulates in the city.

The Royal Palace currently home to Queen Julia Hanssen was built in 1887 as a stock exchange but was converted to the Royal Palace in 1946 when the country gained independence.

St Olav's is the city cathedral.  However, it is considered more of a tourist attraction as religion plays only a small part in Bergerish society.

The Telefonika group is one of the largest electronics compnies in Europe and their global HQ is here in Askersund.  The building was built in 1992 but the company are looking to make a move to a larger complex on the outskirts of Lillefjell.

The Radisson Blu hotel is the tallest building on the island and the 5th tallest in the city.  At 117m, it has 37 floors and 1,500 beds.  The hotel was opened in January 2011.

The national broadcaster is BRK and they are based in this building in Askersund.  They broadcast 3 TV channels (BRK1, BRK2 and BRK News) as well as 4 radio stations (P1, P2, P3 and PSport). The main studios are outside Askersund as well as in Lillefell.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1193.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Faa358%2Fjordanfrew1994%2FMayor%2520Diary%2FParliamentetOy-CityCouncil.jpg&hash=8771ea6505355c5dde4259569d137883e867bf7b)

The city council is based in the blue building here and the fish market, one of the cities biggest tourist attractions, is next to it.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1193.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Faa358%2Fjordanfrew1994%2FMayor%2520Diary%2FParliamentetOy-stadium.jpg&hash=7c577053a46b9602c5c75d14a959adb3564565a1)

The national stadium is named after the famous Bergerland and Chelsea defender Edvard Hannsen.  It has a capacity of 27,000 as is home to the national team.

This is the A77 which is the main route onto the island.  On it's way to Parliamentet Øy, it passes the seaport and winds through some of the densest areas of the city.

Well, that's me finished for this update.  Thank you very much for having a look and I hope you give me some feedback.  The original CJ can be found here on ST: http://www.simtropolis.com/forum/journals/2103/entry-9762-bergerland-coming-soon/

In the next update we will have a look at the motorway which runs through Askersund and the surrounding region.  please check back then!

Very nice city. But I miss the life on the road. It looks so empty. In this beautiful city to live people!

Very interesting start indeed, but I too miss the life on the roads.
Did you take these pics while on pause?
I look forward to seeing more of your city.

It's nice, the city looks well made.. Thought it also seems all ploped, that's a shame because there are no cars.. I'm sure your pictures would be really, really much better with cars and all life!

When taking a picture, have in mind that cars and pedestrians makes your city looks more realistic and alive. The city is interesting, but some automata will make your pictures even more interesting :)
