Following a little bit of Jeronij's experiment "Slope City" and using his techinics or similar, let's see your achievements on building on slopes or mountainous areas. Here is a couple of pics from some of my CJs.

nice work rayden. looks like it took a while to lay that out.
Nice job rayden very nice job
nice layout too
:satisfied:
Very nice Rayden  Those walls look very cool
Wow Rayden those walls are amazing stuff man,as someone said in a previous post it certainly would off took a while great job
Gems Rayden, Gems! This must indeed have cost you hours to lay out... You must have great patience &apls
Very great windy road!
Awesome work! I love the street mod, fits perfectly!
Thanks guys. Take good attention to Jeronij's work at Slope City, he will show you more or less the same shown in here. I learned with him ;) The tunnel and slope modd is very important to smooth the road steepness and avoid those ugly 45ยบ descents/way ups and try to follow the mountain surface without carving it too much. :)
Great work rayden. That winding road is flabbergasting! :shocked2:
The thread is a great idea. I will dig some pics up (or make some).
Nik-Nik
Whoa! Lombard St., eat your heart out! Nice work, Rayden!

Great!
Well Keithie, it looks like it's back to the drawing board for you!
Excellent work.
Keith
Great shots! I don't know if this work for the slope, because I mostly got rid of them, but here they are...

Great pictures and work @ both!
Okay, this was my first real shot at terraforming with a purpose after looking over Jeronji's tutorials. I designed this hill/mountain with the idea that the default Maxis Mayor's mansion would go on top and then there would be a nice winding road down it. I like the way it turned out. I don't plan to continue with this city since I have terraformed the rest to bits and so I won't be posting any more pictures.

fantastic pictures, spacez52!
Here are a few shots from a little experiment I'm working on.
It's a big city full of high-rises set in a very steep hill.
The city is called Astjika, and is located in Croatia in Eastern Europe.
The idea is that the city was booming in the 1960's, attracting business and many rich jet-set tourists.
After the tourists stopped coming, the city was largely forgotten about, and fell somewhat into despair.
Today, tourists still come, but these are mainly poor people who don't have the money to travel elsewhere.
Here's one shot.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg464.imageshack.us%2Fimg464%2F2663%2Fastjikach6.jpg&hash=235ea6b586688be495e5b4d2c3dc997dcc59d35c)
Heres the same shot from a different angle. It's also inversed.
You can see just how steep the hill is.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg464.imageshack.us%2Fimg464%2F2569%2F1960aw4.jpg&hash=836747e7eeb1a9c09c5a27eb871c3fdbe3664452)
If you want, I can post an overview.
Hello "Slopers" !!!
Fantastic pics you are posting here
Sometimes we forget that this game has somehow a 3rd dimension...slopes are great to increase this sensation ;D
Hint: If you dont get the desired slope with the network you want to use in a place, try using another transit network to make the slope, delete it and place your wanted network. I usually use the railroad tool when I want really smooth slopes, and then I redraw the network using the road or street tool. Just in case you didn't already know ;)
Keep the pics coming !!! If there is some slope fanatic can join the Slope City project :D

You got the steepness right for Croatia, but I assume that as the city moves to the present every single open space next to the streets will be filled with parked cars.
I miss the wide open streets of the old days when only a few folks had cars in Croatia. Thanks for the flashback.
mulefisk AWESOME shots some of the best slope work i have seen
I agree with Alek! The use of the marrast roads is awesome!! Looking forward to more

A few shots on the slopes in Shosaloza ... enjoy.
Very nice work Colyn! I love that dam!
Wonderful development on slope, Colyn!
Here are a couple of shots of a hill top development I spent a bit of time trying to fix. Before this, it looked absolutely terrible, and the fact that it was on a hill was very noticeable. What I tried to do is make it look nice, and at the same time hide the fact that it was on a hill by cutting down on the Maxis retaining walls as much as possible (and Jeronij helped me out quite a bit, unbeknowest to him ;)). I've shown it quite a bit on this site, but hey, why not once more?
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi17.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb99%2FJetWarrior%2FSimCity%25204%2520Pics%2FEmeraldPlaza2.jpg&hash=c3d7ea9a0b5aeb5611f0e4cff4f4b1d50df45507)
Here's an area I'm planning on working on (I think I've already shown it somewhere around here, but as it's on a hill...). I tried to keep cliffs down to a minimum here, as I plan on zoning for houses (and they'll probably make enough of them themselves). Quite a bit of Jeronij influence here, as well (P. S. Pay no attention to that beach...that comes later &sly):

Very nice, Matt.
Would the name 'Galston' be derived from the village of Galston, in the northern areas of Sydney (I'm very familiar with that area :P)?
Great pictures y'all.... That new res-area near the beach could become a real topper Masochist .
Everyone has shown some very interesting and creative ways for working with slopes (and they all seem to add a sense of realism to the pics). I particularly like the rowhomes by the university (matt325). I'm not sure whether this qualifies as building on slopes or with them, but I like them, and can always use suggestions. I'm using these as a way to prepare for an upcoming project that I'll be working on.

It looks very good, threestoges!
I like the way you preprared flat space for the rail line, it is wider than the rail needs. This is much more realistic.
One question: where can I find this rail texture? It looks very well on diagonal pieces, I must have it! &hlp
Thank you very much Ennedi. At some points, the width of the land was just a side effect of the levelling process, but it is fairly realistic (though there are some places where tracks are right on the edge of a cliff). The mod/rail texture I'm using is PEG's Alternative Rail Set Mod and was originally acquired at ST (but their search feature is acting up right now so I can't give you the link there) but you can also find it here at PEG's Site (http://simpeg.com/forum/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=item183) along with a bunch of other great things in the PLex. There are some small "notches" on the diagonals at he edges of the grid squares, but, in my opinion, they don't detract much from the overall look.
Thank you! :sunny:
Matt, I haven't had time to drop in lately, your work is fantastic. It really shows off what someone can do with talent, patience and creativity. &apls
This is a very "slopy" village I'm building at the moment.

Ashes, I love this picture! ;D
These houses look charming
But I'm not sure if your windmills have enough wind on this slope... ;)
Thanks, I'm glad you like it :)
Right, actually I didn't think of that :D Beside they are standing in different directions &Thk/( I think I have to do a lot more work on realism &idea
It's very good they stand in different directions, this way you have power irrespective of wind (if you have wind... ;) )
very pretty ashes, nice bit of medditeranean (did i spell that right? i think if a words long enough you get to just make it up) style you have goin' there, that farm's a very nice touch, and nice bit of fotoshopping too.
here's a bit from one of my cities, not sure if it counts a sloped, since it's mostly leveled, but here goes

Thanks. Yours is very good as well, have you already played it? (Built a city)
Thank you, and i have not, though it is slightly planned out as to what goes where, i still want to completely terrace off the rest of the city.
Great pictures of that area @ both!
Macchu Pichu! :P
Looks good, Spartan.
And, FTA: that looks wonderful.
WOW.... sweet terracing...
reminds me soo much of sc2k
Mulefisk: Where in the world did you find these walled-in sloped ramps?

I'd love to use them as a template to see if they can't be implemented in the NAM for RHW and Maxis highway ramps.
schm0: Here you go: http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=17489 (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=17489)
The lots aren't that great but they can be modified easily. If you want something to use as a template, I'd use marrasts M-TEL set instead.
Thanks Mulefisk... you can see what I'm trying to do here. (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=1138.msg113010#msg113010)
I am Bluepelican31 on Simtropolis. Those viaducts you linked to are the only thing I have ever released :D. Mulefisk you are the first person I have seen use them, I don't even have them installed right now. You made great use of them.

That looks great, LoneRanger. Most of all I like you terrain-forming skills and the way you gently spread the trees cross the hill side. What terrain mod is this? I definitely need that!
I must admit that I don't really like the streets along the hill and the various buildings that are scattered along it. But the place for Burg Eltz is beyond awesome; together with that terrain mod it looks really great. Too bad that your computer doesn't seem to handle the shadows very well. What about using a regular road and curve it upwards in smooth serpentines?
I'm not sure yet what causes the "weird" shadows, I started when I upgraded from a 7600GT to a 8800GT.
I don't have a special profile yet for SC4 so I'm probbably using some settings SC4 can't handle well.
As for the terain mod, I have meadowshire installed but also missouriBreaks wich loads last. [long story]
I am working right now on road curving up gently as you suggested.
Same location after Andreas' suggestions.

Fantastic city there on slopes and hills, rodrigogua!
Let's revive this almost 3-year-old thread ::)

Great pic Ioan! &apls Nice idea to revive this thread, building on slopes is one of the trickiest things to do in a nice looking way in SC4 and a place to display accomplishments and get ideas is a great thing to have!
I agree with Noah. Your pics are very good, Ioan.
Personally , I really suck at building on slopes. It is a side of the game that I have never grasped.
Oh, wow, I never thought of using the NAM puzzle pieces on slopes like that. (https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi98.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fl252%2Fsimdiary%2Fdoh.gif&hash=67a479ab5cf46ea3019cd3d27fde8409f118f3c1) That is a very eye pleasing and realistic high density slope area, very difficult to achieve. The picture contest thread is looking for an entrant... Here's some of mine, and boy I had to level the (insert swear adjective) out this terrain. Thank god for slope mods. :P

This is more of a subtle slope, but you can still see how there are retaining walls and what not.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi681.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fvv174%2FIndexdude%2FNapoli-2.jpg&hash=5c68afa116cf788f31eca9d78a0e22e439db4e44)
And, well.... this isn't much of a slope, but more of a transition.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi681.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fvv174%2FIndexdude%2FOldCity-2.jpg&hash=2c90ffe4900cdd1e3371f6b9642f55b575e49732)
Hope you all like them! :)
Awesome thread. We need more people to build on slopes. Bravo!
More people building on slopes? That's all I've been doing lately ;D

I don't know if this counts as building on slopes, but I find the winding road very interesting.

Those walls are nice. A personal creation or something downloaded?
Nice winding road and nature scene unit2981
@ c0rnh0li0 - Those walls are a personal creation. The only thing stopping me from sharing them right now is that I've borrowed the concept and foundation stats from kazuki's red brick plaza wall set and I want to make sure that it's okay for me to release it first. You can find his original set here: http://klex.blog85.fc2.com/ (http://klex.blog85.fc2.com/)
Great pictures everyone!! &apls

More of that at my MD. ;)
Great Pictures
Evillions - Please, why must you post in 8 different posts for this?
Slopes have never worked out for me, but I thought I'd try it again. All of these shots are of the same hill from Herndon10 and Herndon5 (I copied the tile and made different versions of the city).
Herndon10...

I leveled each step that the development is on, but in Herndon5, I decided to not do as much leveling to give the hill a more natural look...

This entire city is on the side of a mountain. It took a long time to lay it all out.
