Over the last year, my computer has become less and less willing to run Sim Sity 4. It would tell me to insert the game disc even though it was in. It is not the disc itself because I have tried several different ones, and none of them work. The CD drive will read all other discs, so it is working fine. I tried uninstalling and re-installing the game, but now I can't re-install it because it won't read disc 2. I have gone as far as completely re-installing windows 7, and it made no difference. The program worked fine for a year on this computer before it acted up., it it should work now.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this, or make it recognize the game disc? Computer is running windows 7 64-bit.
It may be a different problem that you are having, but this topic may help

:)
I haven't been able to figure out why my computer won't read the game disc, but I found a work-around. I installed a virtual drive, and copied an image of the game disc (using my laptop which does read the game disc). Now I will just have to use the virtual drive.
I had the same issue a couple years ago on a Vista machine. I used my laptop to make a copy of Disc 2, and whenever I install the game, I have to use the copy to install the game, take it out, then insert the original Disc 2 to play(as the copy for some reason will not run the game), and even today, Disc 2 will not install the game, yet will play it fine.
Hi Jonno,
Maybe a totally superfluous remark, but your problem sounds like a defective DVD/CD reader...
Anyway, a virtual drive is, in my opinion a very good way of working, because the DVD/CD player is now free for other discs. So the solution is an answer to a problem you even didn't have.
