Title: Ciro's Bat Project
Post by: cirocirociro on November 25, 2011, 03:57:48 AM
Waiting for someone to help me with a rendering problem, I decided to post this model and ask for your opinion. Here's my version of the Lemp Brewery which is located in St. Louis.Obviously it is just the beginning.
What do you think?
Suggestions are welcome
Thanks to all

It looks like a spot or direct light it me. Otherwise, the geometry looks OK so far. Good Luck with your bat

Thank you jmyers for the comment  :)
The problem is: my previews are only in b/w if I applied a texture on an object(the solids and shapes itself are visible with their colors)
The spot light you are talking about is default setting in my B.A.T. (I don't know why &sly) only in the center of the grid. Can you help me with this problems???

Thanks

...... Can you help me with this problems...

I can be helpful if you are using gmax. I have no experience with 3dsMax.

Not sure what I see. Is it a spotlight ? or problem with the mesh ?

I see you are using gmax

If its a light I can me hiden in two ways.

1. By right clickning using the hide selected / unselected.
- right click and use Unhide All

2. All light are hiden by settings:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi40.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fe242%2Fvester_DK%2FDiv%2FHidenLights.jpg&hash=3cab746494ea65dc2b27f4965724c96008da4f6a)

3. At least in Max, the light is can be placed in a layer that is frozen and hiden.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi40.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fe242%2Fvester_DK%2FDiv%2FLayerManager.jpg&hash=9c3cefdebae1a60a84fa59d7e3a397b907b9dd5b)
found in the main toolbar or the layer toolbar.

If its a problem with the mesh, try to add a smooth modifer to it.

Sciurus: Thank you.. A compliment from TSC's members is always good to read  ;)
jmyers: I use gmax yes...basic B.A.T. with no upgrade
vester: I really don't know  .. I think is a spotlight problem because is a circle of light ONLY in the center of the grid(strange because i don't use light yet)

I hope those few informations are enough to help me

Thank you vester now I know that's a light:

But why?(even if I hide it, the effect remain, and I cannot delete it)

That could be the default camera and light rig.

Try to go to XRef Scene in the file menu. You can now try to remove the rig.
(Just click on one of the rotate in the bat preview to get it back)

It works! Thanks vester:)
Unfortunately, the low RAM on my PC forcing me to stop  from posting new pictures of my works. I hope to return soon with a more powerful PC.
Thanks to everyone for the help

Since my few Pc's RAM doesn't allow me to make previews, I'll post images taken directly from gMax. What do you think so far of my LEMP Brewery's version?
(the roof isn't finished yet)

Thank to all

That sounds good. Care should be taken to the roof because it is large enough, so we must think of it well.

that is a large bat for sure. It sits on a 5X5 lot so far. I think it might be worth your time to export it as a test render before you get too far along. Make it into a prop and lot it onto a park. then plop it in the game next to other similar industrial buildings. You can always exit without saving. Keep going if you are happy with the scale - or make adjustments.

It's hard to tell from a gmax screenshot, but it looks great.
That fence rmeminds of some already done as props.
Cant remember. Maybe Gascooker ?

It should not be modeled with the building itself.

Very nice start   It's hard to tell from a picture not in the game but the scale seems about right to me. Good luck continuing!

I modeled it because that wall connect two different parts of this huge lot

I'll do a lot of things WHEN I'll have a decent PC  ;D(Export= Error code #6(probably out of memory); Preview= Unknown system exception). However thanks for the suggestions
Update of the Lemp brewery: roof(without texture)

This is one of the few render I can do:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg11.imageshack.us%2Fimg11%2F7982%2Fimmagine4ki.jpg&hash=3d0e5ac77d37d71218be4bfcf7a4679aa8dc3956) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/11/immagine4ki.jpg/)

What you think about it?
Simcity4 ALWAYS needs corner buildings!  ::)

P.S:This BAT refers to the Bamlet Building in Detroit

Looks like a good start.

Found this old picture (http://quod.lib.umich.edu/d/dpa1ic/x-eb02f788/*) of it, where it have a light base from 1900.
It looks like it has been expanded in 1915 (http://quod.lib.umich.edu/d/dpa1ic/x-eb02f281/eb02f281.tif).

Would you consider doing a version with a light base ?

Looking at pictures, the 3rd row, the one next to the round corner has a smaller width than the other two.
Just curious, how did you do the round corner ?

Well vester,I never saw those images(I have taken this (http://www.flickr.com/photos/snweb/88741282/sizes/l/in/photostream/*) for example) so, yes, I'll do a light base's version. I know the 3rd row is a little bit smaller but for simplicity I did it the same width as the other two.
About the round corner, I used a simple line with 4 vertex(like  this (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/819/immagine6tt.jpg/)) and then have applied the Fillet option (in the Geometry menĂ¹)on the middle vertex of the line. Every object in the round corner is based on that line. It's less simple that use the Bend deformation on an entire row but allows you to do whatever curve angle you want.

Here is a few textures you could use on the roof:
RooftilesOther0028 (http://www.cgtextures.com/texview.php?id=36389&PHPSESSID=0dp18ijqhhlcbjgg5v5r54kob4)
RooftilesOther0041 (http://www.cgtextures.com/texview.php?id=58884&PHPSESSID=0dp18ijqhhlcbjgg5v5r54kob4)

I think I would use a circle, remove 3/4 of it and outline it.
Your way sounds good. Just recently tried out the fillet. Kind of know it from AutoCAD.

Few Update(I'm a little bit busy in this period, like everyone I presume)

Bamlet building finished(thanks to vester for the textures, customized with GIMP):

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg713.imageshack.us%2Fimg713%2F7994%2Fcornerbuildingvisuale.jpg&hash=543f24c910af7555ff409ddc7cf378ccb28744a8) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/713/cornerbuildingvisuale.jpg/)

And my new project still under work(very HUGE project  :P)

Palazzo Reale,Napoli - in front of "Piazza del Plebiscito"

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg24.imageshack.us%2Fimg24%2F8373%2Fpalazzorealevista.jpg&hash=5b87ae854b1b4f910a27902954dcd3f8bde4d7b3) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/24/palazzorealevista.jpg/)

I like your designs particularly the curved corned building, just one note, the glass won't typically be curved (curved glass it is really expensive). Great work!
