Title: Ferry mod?
Post by: WannGLondon on March 13, 2012, 12:43:55 PM
Afternoon guys. I was wondering if there was a ferry mod out there that made it so that ferrys could travel to anywhere on water even if the bridges were too low (kind of like going right through them). Just wondering because I would like ferrys going down my river but the embankment is too low, making the bridges too low because if the embankment were too high, the bridges would not be pleasing to look at.

Thanks.

While this is sort of thing is best answered by the NAM Team, I'm pretty sure that there's no way to work around the bridge height, so your ferrys will never be able to go under low bridges, mainly because this sort of thing is hardcoded into the .exe file, so it cannot be changed. I'm not an expert in this sort of thing though, so I'm not 100% sure. I would suggest asking one of the NAM Team members, or anyone else with knowledge in this sort of thing. ;) ;)

If it can be done, I imagine it would require extensive knowledge with the reader to change it.

If you want boats on your waterways, I would search the STEX for ploppable boats, I know someone has made a collection of water lots using PEG's, CAL's and NOB's boats. That way your waterways will still look busy despite the low bridges. ;) I would post a link but ST's server is busy right now.

At present, there isn't much that can be done with the Ferries... at all.  However, it sounds like you might be better off using canals, which do allow boats to travel past new bridges, including draw bridges.

I think that if you remove your water and place viaducts instead of bridges ferries will cross them. They cross diagonal bridges anyway. I can't say for sure though because I've really never used ferries, though I am interested in starting.

Temporarily lowering your sea level when placing bridges may also work, though I've never got around to testing it. In any case it will say "bridge height ok for ferries" when you place the bridge at your current low height.

Good luck
