Title: SAC is looking for models...
Post by: SAC on March 30, 2012, 12:21:53 PM
Hi all!   :)

Haven't been around the SimCity-community for many years now, but my signum, the city of Olympia, still continues to live through other games...   :P  Anyway, not going back to SimCity 4 at the moment, but I'm actually looking for some building models that I can adapt to isometrical view for an older game I'm working on right now.

Ever since SimCity 4 reached the market many players started to devote themselves to 3D-modelling, something I never got the time to do myself - which in the end was part of the decision to put the game on the shelfs.  And since I know there are soo many truly devoted artists here at SC4Devotion alone, I figured I should put out a request and see if there are any responses...  ;D

I'm directing this question to those of you making 3D-models for use with SimCity 4, to see if it's possible to request a few models in an isometric view, (see the attached image), and make them suitable for this other game I develop graphics for.  My own personal work is purely about pixels, and just to show exactly what I'm doing these days I've attached an image of a newly drawn Station building as well.

Isometric view;

Station Entrance;

Anyway, if anyone is interested and want to response to this request, please let me know!  Happy gaming to you all...  :)

Sorry SAC. The picture are not showing. Think they are protected by the login on the site where they are stored.

EDIT: Can't even access the files them self, while I am logged in.

I've updated the first post for a better view...  :thumbsup:

What is the angle for the isometrics ?

I figured that perhaps the attached tile image in the first post would possibly help determine the angle of the isometric view...  &mmm  But I believe we're talking about a 45 degree angle...  :)

Just for the record .... the form adopted for the simcity 4 is an axonometric Projections with the definition of projection trimetric whose details can be found in the wikipedia link below

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trimetric_projection # Three_types_of_axonometric_projections

The angle ranging up to 22.5 ° depending on the selected zoom.

Isometrics use 60° angles, and the axes are the following values (0° being straight right, mathematical unit circle):

30°
90°
150°
210°
270°
330°

What is that, OpenTTD?  Perhaps just TTD?

The general problem with fulfilling this request is that when we render a model for SC4 we don't set the cameras.  Perhaps you know this, we make a model, click render, and then the program takes a picture for each Z/R (20 total).  Moving cameras is probably not too difficult, but not a skill we need to know (unless you do something like make a 3dsMax script).

My intention is to see whether or not I can perhaps use some SimCity 4 models created by artists over here to work in Transport Tycoon Deluxe.  Whatever model available I still need to adapt any model to work in the game as far as the limit of colors concerns as well as the sun itself...  ;D  The only thing would be to have it at the right angle, and the attached tile above was sort of to visualize the angle itself.  I was under the impression the angle was 45 degree but perhaps it's even 90!   ()what()

Still, if it doesn't work, no problem guys!  I just figured I should ask!  :)

Refers to the game open the link below ... (Imagine if it could be done to Simcity!)

Sac ... though well   explained by Lowkee33 maybe can leave easier. The models shown in Simcity4 ( Trimetricas Projections ) are composed of textures applied to boxes of low polygons. The angle of view (camera) is not determined by the designer but automatically determined by the rendering stage (BAT).

The same would apply to Tycon enough so the model is provided in max, 3DS to do the conversion only with the correct orientation axis.

If you are new to Wiki see below ... On this page you will find models for Blender, 3DS and Lightware studio with cameras and lighting.
