Hello everyone. Not sure where to post this so excuse me if I'm in the wrong place. If there is a section for the basic B.A.T. I could not find it here. I think I missed it.
I am back into SC4 after almost 2 years of not being very active with it. I am currently creating my first BAT finally. I searched Simtropolis, the internet which came up with 404s when I thought I found something and looked for a B.A.T. section here and I'm having a hard time finding the basics of getting the content into the game. I remember years ago I read a tutorial that went from building a simple house to seeing it in game. I believe it was part of the BAT essentials series but only part one can be found on the Omnibus. It seems a lot of good stuff got lost over at ST over the years. The info for the basics of working with the B.A.T. is essential for newbies and someone should re-upload somewhere.
I'm not worried so much about modeling as I have and will continue to model using Sketchup. Part of my profession is doing Architectural Visualization and other 3D related services for visuals so when it comes to modeling and rendering, I have experience. I found a way that works successfully for me to import my models into Gmax (I have both Sketchup 8 free with a lot of plugins along with version 5 I had for years which is my export gate). The parts I'm concerned about now is working my way around the material editor in Gmax as I am a new user to this program, would like to know if night lighting can be treated the same as other render programs during the process, and the end process to get the thing in the game. I'm finding bits and pieces here and there but not satisfied so far to get me through. It seems easier to find info for all the other tools but the B.A.T. Can someone please point me to some B.A.T. learning info that covers the whole process? Thanks in advance.
If you are using automatic translation try this ...
"$Deal"$ - http://roe99.weebly.com/creating-a-simple-bat.html (http://roe99.weebly.com/creating-a-simple-bat.html)
Very well done and covers all stages.
Note: Do not take the title in consideration because the BAT is not so simple ... maybe modesty of the author.
Thanks for your help though I would have to figure that out. Is automatic translation something I have to install into my browser? I'm on Firefox on my desktop. Dolphin on my android phone.
It took me a moment to recognize the language.
Google Translate (https://www.google.fi/url?q=http://translate.google.com/&sa=U&ei=k37AUM6kG-bl4QSpjoHYCA&ved=0CCQQFjAA&usg=AFQjCNGhfKp99rHOk7HkYs_W7PF1Qe4rQA) works well with this article. Drop this link in to the field and translate it from Indonesian to English.

Or you could download Google Chrome which asks tou if you want to translate when you get on the site.
Like Reform said you could do that too.
Hope this helps with your language problems! ;D

Thanks Reform. It works good enough to understand with a few words destroyed here and there. I think I can work with this.
I'm still shocked that this type of tutorial for the B.A.T. is not present here or ST though.
Actually, phillippbo's old BAT Essentials tutorial is still on ST, but it's buried in their new Omnibus.
You can find it here (http://www.simtropolis.com/omnibus/_/simcity-4/batlot-editor-tutorials/bat-essentials-part-1-r11). All four parts are still there.

While this thread is still running, I would like to know where I could find a "transparent mod" for gmax, I mean make see-thru windows etc, Thanks

That's only part 1 with 4 pages that goes as far as modeling but does not cover lighting and getting the model into the game.I'm so embarrased.....I didn't notice the 4 part links in small print towards the top of the 1st pages of each chapter........ :o &ops :-[
Sorry if I caused any confusion.
@Fred: I believe this is what you want: Link (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=7495.msg236237#msg236237)

Edit: I wrote a script for Reader 1.4 that will do the reader work for you, you can download it here: Link (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=2596.msg392575#msg392575)

Thank You
Carl, but I don't think that is what I want. I just want to see through a box with a texture that has an object in it....that's all and that must be terribly easy, no? There must be a button (only one!) in gmax that will simply and slowly make disappear the texture and make it transparent. How can something like this NOT exist?
Thanks
Fred
In that case, it is one button. See Xyloxadoria's first picture there. I'm pretty sure that "Opacity" setting (middle right) is all you need to adjust.
Thanks Lowkee, I was able to achieve some transparency, but the texture disappears when clicking on the apply button and becomes a mere ugly beige, no more texture. And besides I seem not to be able to adjust the density, there seems to be only one setting...transparent....hmmmm?
