Title: The moving brown boxes---Solved!!!
Post by: DemDude1 on January 13, 2013, 08:22:44 AM
Ah the joys of re-installing SC4 Deluxe (cd version) things happen and most are easily fixed. My problem this time, seems to be streets and roads, mostly streets. I zone areas and lay down streets and or roads looks so prettiful lol. Then development starts and i get brown boxes all over the place, however it's not the development its the streets and roads. I can get rid of brown boxes by relaying said streets usually but othertimes the box just moves to a different section and i have to relay again. The weirdest thing is even the Maxis "pre-built" cities end up with the boxes too, not just the cities I make from scratch. I have NAM and SAM (latest versions) installed but had no problem with them before the re-install. BTW re-installed because I had to take computer back to factory image due to a nasty critter residing inside. Never had this problem before so I am completely at a loss as to how to fix it. Any ideas???

You probably installed a streetlight or streetside decoration mod without installing all it's dependencies - that's the likely cause of your moving brown boxes

I suppose your right I almost always get dependencies before I finally install the actual thing though, however would that cause the boxes to be there only after development starts, and why not every street? Just a few spread out here and there?

Those street decoration mods usually have various "levels" of decoration, depending on the type and wealth of the development around it - empty streets might not have any decoration, while high-density commercial may have a lot of trees and parked cars - for example. You're probably missing one or two dependencies that are only being used by a certain type, hence why the brown boxes aren't everywhere.

Well I cant find the missing dependencies, but i can delete then re-install the mods. I didn't use special street lights so I am assuming its a tree mod that's missing some dependency even tho it looks correct. I've been wrong before lol

Do you have a picture perhaps? That might help in identifying the culprit :)

Ok pic one is where brown boxes are at first, pic two is where some disappeared and some moved after re-laying a few streets.

You clearly have some Streetside mod installed.  Is it the SBFT?  Does that ring a bell? Or something else?  Once you determine what mod is causing the problem, you can track down the dependency.

Maybe search your plugins folder for "mod" to try to find it.

If you're using the SFBT Street Tree Mod, check if you installed all dependencies. You need three different files from Cycledoog and one from Pegasus (it looks like you have at least one Cycledogg and the Pegasus dependency installed). My best guess is that you're missing the "CPT_No8_TreeModelsPartOne.dat" and/or "CPT_No9_TreeModelsPartTwo.dat".

Thank You yes I am using the SFBT mod and i have the dependencies but for some reason they not doing their job. However i deleted them and re-installed them and now everything is working wonderfully. Must been a gremlin or something. I would like to say thanks to all who posted ideas and possible solutions. Have a blessed day.
