Title: CAM - Civics overcapacity
Post by: catalatak on February 10, 2013, 11:27:53 AM
Hi, it is my first post here at SC4Devotion,

I finally got around to installing CAM and building cities with it. It is really a great mod, however there is a bit of annoyance with the civics, feels like I have to plop hospitals and schools every corners.

Is there a ways around it? What are the options? I'm not much of a modder so I dont know about changing the capacity variables in the original maxis civics.

I was suprised it didn't come up as a problem anymore then that on the various forums.

Thanks!

L,

Remembering an old post where I linked some higher capacity civic buildings, let me quote it...

Basically, you can use any available civic buildings with the CAM.
However, if you're aiming for huge skyscraper cities, then you might want some bigger ones.

And if you want civic buildings with capacities and other properties in line with those that Maxis made, I'd recommend the following recent uploads:

Simgoober Education Lots BSC (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1382)
SG Health BSC (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1384)
Taunton State Hospital (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1385)
Mattb325 Bathurst St Police Station (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1358)
Mattb325 Eastern Hill Fire Station (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=863)

There's bound to be more higher capacity civic buildings on the LEX uploaded more recently as well though... :)

Thanks!

I've also found Mercy General on the lex as well as Paeng's on the STEX

I encountered this problem with hospitals when my population reached approximately 2 million.  After pulling my hair out and almost giving up, I discovered a property called "Hospital Capacity Chunk Size" in the "Residential Simulator" exemplar located in SimCity_1.dat.  Basically, the raw number of patients divided by this value defines the total patient load on a facility.  The default value for hospitals is 500 which works well for the typical unmodded, RH city.  However, the internal algorithm begins to deviate wildly when cities achieve higher populations made possible by CAM and other custom content.  The only conventional alternative to plopping ridiculous numbers of Maxis facilities is to use higher capacity custom lots.  Even then, the issue inevitably returns as a cities population continues to grow - You just have ridiculous numbers of custom facilities.  In my experience, increasing the "chunk size" by a factor of ten restored patient numbers to well within realistic and manageable levels.  Granted, I still use the larger custom lots which you'd expect to see in an expansive megalopolis.  Although without a custom mod, this solution can only be accomplished using a tool such as iLive Reader.  I'm confident I could develop such a mod, but somewhat hesitant to publish one without input from others.  FWIW, a similar property exists for educational buildings, but they don't seem to pose the same degree of divergence.  Additionally, it's possible the tweak may require further adjustment down the road, but for now, it has extended my enjoyment of the game and enabled me to continue pushing the limits of CAM.

Non-technical users can achieve some immediate relief by installing one of the following mods available on the STEX that expand the coverage and capacity of the standard Maxis civic buildings:
