Hello,
I am having a problem with the simulator not updating fast enough to keep up with the growth in my city (Or, at least, that is what I have come to believe).
The problem is that when I zone a new residential area, most of the new buildings will have the "no road connection" zot, even though there is most certainly a road connection to the residence. I have done a lot of searching and reading about this problem, but most of the information is outdated, and as far as I can tell, nobody has come up with a solution for this. These zots will remain in an area until the game finally figures out that the area is ok and there are actually road connections. Most of the advice I found about this problem, suggests that you wait for a few in-game months, and the problem will pass. My problem is that the buildings abandon before the game can realize that the buildings do have a road connection. If I bulldoze the building, immediately a new building will grow and also have the same no road connection zot, and it will also abandon very quickly. This does fix itself in time, but meanwhile, I have brand new looking buildings that are abandoned, and I have to go and hunt them all down and hope that the game does not get confused again because there has been so many changes in a small area, because half the area has been bulldozed.
This is the best explanation that I could find:
"SimCity 4's traffic simulator is run once every 3-4 months. It is designed to update only a certain percentage of the road network, the mechanics of which is currently unknown. it is possible it will take several runs of the traffic simulator to connect all the no road zot buildings."
If I save the city, exit, and reload the city, the no road connection zots will immediately disappear, and those tiles will function normally for the remainder of the game. This works, but it is not fun to have to exit the city every 10 minutes when new zones begin to develop. I am stuck with this option or the option to let them abandon and play whack-a-mole with the abandoned buildings, until the simulator updates, unless somebody has figured out a solution to this since the time of the old forum threads that I read about this subject.
Does anybody know of a way to force the simulator to update more frequently, or to manually force it to update by any other method than saving, exiting, and reloading?
You can't mod something like how frequently the simulator updates; it's hard-coded.
Thanks for the reply. I suspected it could not be modded, but I was hoping that there might be some kind of little tweak to an .ini file, or something similar that might help. More so, I was hoping for some kind of little trick that causes the simulator to automatically update (e.g., plopping or constructing something that causes the update), rather than saving, exiting, and reloading.
Do you already use the NAM? If not, it optimises the transit simulator pathfinding, which may help your sims to find jobs faster.
I do have NAM installed (simulator Z high), and everything is working fine. I'm not really having trouble with traffic or the sims finding jobs. It is that my city is growing faster than the simulator can keep up with.
If it's not traffic or jobs, then what simulator are you talking about?
Cheers
