Title: Steampunk region
Post by: Deaghaidh on July 08, 2013, 08:29:05 PM
So I'm planning a new region with a steampunk Victorian-futurist theme.  The good news is that there is a ton of quality 19th century euro themed buildings out there.

What's more daunting is to find the right mods for other things.  For instance, I want to find a mod to suppress vanilla maxis buildings, some custom automata to replace all the modern cars and planes and such with more appropriate very old fashioned cars, or carriages, along with cool trains and trams.  I'm also looking for terrain and tree mods to fit with a sort of Black Forest or Transylvania theme.  Gaslight streetlights would be nice, along with airships.  Dirt and cobblestone roads, and brick sidewalks would be cool.

Any recommendations, must-haves or other advice?

It's easy enough to suppress the maxis buildings. just use this mod: BSC - no Maxis (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=897)

There are also a good number of terrain mods out there, so I guess you should be able to find something that suits you. Cobblestone streets are available through the NAM, and there are also lots of different sidewalk texture replacment mods. But I guess you'll have to mod the rest your self.

Sounds like a cool plan!

As for old fashioned vehicles, unfortunately there're very little available, let alone an automata replacement mod. Though iirc there are a few blimps on the stex.

As byr1al already said, dirt & cobblestone streets are available in the NAM and there're plenty of terrain and tree mods. There're also plenty of streetlight replacement mods, by Mandelsoft notably, which you can look into.

Other than that you may want to become familiar with the SC4PIM  (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2260) so you can get creative and make suitable lots yourself. Hope this helps and post some pictures now and again, I'm curious to see what you come up with!
