Title: Insane Water Pollution Bug
Post by: Haljackey on September 22, 2013, 08:22:50 PM
Hey guys I have encountered a problem in SC4 that I have never experienced before. Insane water pollution out of nowhere:

It just came suddenly too:

I checked everything and cannot determine the source. Water treatment plants get rid of about 1% of the pollution. (The small drop in pollution in the graph show me plopping an extra treatment plant.)

Any help would be appreciated!

I downloaded a water treatment plant once that turned my entire city a deep red, it was either a mistake on their part or it was deliberate, even once I'd deleted it my city remained in the "red", god-mode trees helped ... a lot of them but it took a long time before the city went back to normal.

I know that certain mods (one specifically which repressed Radiation) when removed can cause the reverse effect--the noradiation mod would cause the entire city to be irradiated.

Perhaps an improperly modded building was grown (or plopped) and was then either grown over or deleted by accident?

The polluted circlular area has a clear border. So, by using the TerrainQuery cheat (shows X,Y - well, Z - coordinates) you can easily determine the centre of the disk, and therefore where the pollution comes from. You say there is "nothing" there, but is there really nothing? It must be a wrongly modded something. Network tiles (T21) may contain certain properties, some do take effect, some others not, for example ped-mall tiles have a landmark effect. Trees also contain properties. Maybe the creator wanted to add a slightly negative pollution effect. In hex, the value of -1 is represented as 0xFFFFFFFF, -2 is 0xFFFFFFFE etc. Now if the modder accidentally types 0x0FFFFFFF, or even 0x0000FFFF, this yes, is an insanely high (positive) value.

Does something like the Brita water filter make any sort of dent in the water pollution? It may be that whatever is/was causing it made things so bad that it will take a long time for the pollution cleaners (water treatement, etc.) to reduce it. The nice thing about the Brita filters is they're 1x1 so you can build an army of them to get results.

I tried gutting the whole area but to no avail. See what I did at the beginning here:

I'll try a custom water treatment plant next and see if that helps with anything.

Hey @Haljackay, I just watched your SimCity4 Series on Youtube and subscribed. I left the following message and wonder if this might be a 'workaround' .  I just made the changes and waiting to see what happens in Peyton Place - Stepford Island.  I've installed some neat water purification lots from Simtropolis and this site , but I am beginning to think there must be a lot somewhere in my downloads of plugins, where something has a bad config , causing this outrageous pollution problem.

I have the same problem and am testing this:

1.  Built A Service City In A New Tile:
Started a service-only city  in an adjacent tile and named  it  "Lake City"
It is small in size but FULL of water systems, pumps and purifiers.
No industries, no air pollution, just water and tons of it.
I am going to attach a pipe leading into the larger tile "PEYTON PLACE-STEPFORD ISLAND"
Before connecting I am going to;

2.  Disconnected PEYTON PLACE-STEPFORD ISLAND Water Supply
Disconnect only a section of PEYTON PLACE - STEPFORD ISLAND from its current polluted system.
Bulldoze ALL pipes , pumps and water treatment for the selected section and lay new piping in a "grid format" for better control later
I plan to lay the new pipe so that the 6-tile reach doesn't touch or overlap the existing poluted watered borders around the selected area.
Connect the new grid to the pipe coming in from "LAKE CITY" ......and wait.........and wait.......and...

Wondering how long a Neighbor Deal would Kick in, while losing population and business in this section due to no water.  Any idea for getting a 'forced' neighbor deal?  Do you think this might help?
