Title: Mountain range
Post by: tkirch on June 26, 2007, 08:44:27 AM
Are there any good tutorials on how to make a mountain range.  I have a great map that I have made.  The last thing I have to do is mountains and every time I try in either SC4 Terraformer or in SC4 they always look like crud.  I see many great mountain makers out there what are your hints for it.

I useally copy paste some of NHP real world map mountains in my map
I export both maps to RGB in SC4TF and do the copy/paste in photoshop
then I reimport the modified map

Patience, patience, patience...  Get familiar with the tools and save often, and don't feel bad if it doesn't look right the first time... just keep at it and I'm sure you can do great!

I had to soften everything so I'd actually have something to build on!  All told, this took me a very, very long time

Nonsense! Everyone has skills, its just that you need the patience to be able to use them. SC4TF is a great tool, you just need to take time to look at what youre doing, and make changes. Dont rush, otherwise it will look bad. Do you have any rock/ water/ terrain mods? The Maxis ones dont look half as good as the ones people make here.

tkirch asked if there were any good tutorials on making mountains. Well this is how I used to do it just using the in game tools we had before wouanagaine's wonderful tool.
There are a lot of images so I hope you see clearly what i used to do. It always worked for me so maybe it may help somebody else too.

Blank tile

Select the Mesa tool in god mode

and again

Not too bad so far now repeat again and again a little bit at a time.
The next lot of pics show this an the tool is moved and used little bits at a time

The good thing is that you can do the same with SC4TF as I have implemented SC4 terraforming tools in it ( under Brushes tools )
