Title: Changing the Residential OccupantGroups (Tileset)
Post by: Kergelen on May 30, 2014, 02:04:34 AM
I'm reorganizing my plugins and I'm assigning w2w to Euro Tileset and non w2w to Chicago Tileset

If I change the residential OccupantGroups of a building that has already grown in my city, can I have problems in the future with this bulding?
I think is a minor change and probably it will not be a problem. ()what()

I have done a similar modification before and did not have any problems with that.

I was interested in doing something very similar but thought that I couldn't if the building has already grown due to risk of the tile getting messed up with potential prop-pox type issues. What exactly makes a lot's properties safe to edit or not for already existing lots?

Kergelen and noahclem, I have changed lot tileset as well as growth stage on the fly (with already grown copies of the lots) also without problem. I would say that lot properties which are used for the city simulator, such as energy & water consumption, polution rates, building value and number of occupants, and lot size, should not be changed without bulldozing all occurences of the lot first. On the other hand, properties such as tileset, growth stage, minimum/maximum allowed slope, are basically used to check whether the lot can grow in a give slop and city tile prior to its development. In principle it makes no sense to store these informations with the grown lot (means no risk of something similar to prop pox occurring), and it should make no effect if the player changes them after the lot has grown. The changes will only affect the the possibilities of further such lots to grow.

Just to confirm, I use the 'minslopeallowed' property to temporarily block certain lots from growing (farm field mostly) and have never noticed any side effects for already grown lots / fields.

Thanks a lot guys! That's very good news and allows me a lot more possibilities with lot plugins in my region.

yeah, many thanks for your knowledge! That means I can carry out my plans without problems and know what properties I should not change:)
