Title: Missing ground textures in most buildings
Post by: Boeing777300ER on December 14, 2014, 05:13:55 AM
Hi, I have just re-installed SC4 with NAM and I am continually getting missing ground textures in a lot of buildings, both with and without the required dependancies. The most recent building I added in was 2 Eastland Grand which, as far as I can see requires no dependencies, I don't have the grey road or ped tiles showing.

Another bigger example I tried yesterday was the ComRail Maintenance Yard along with its many depenency files which I religiously installed very carefully, doesn't have any surface texture at all, including rail lines which you can run through but don't show.

I am probably missing something somewhere, but I don't know what. I have tried adding in the Maxis Texture fix patch but still nothing.

Please help!!!

P.S. For some reason many buildings disappear altogher now, including standard game buildings, all houses and power plants, once plopped just seem to vanish, although the smoke effects and cars are still there.

Bit hard to tell what's going on without a picture so first the obvious. Since you just re-installed the game: all graphic options like city-detail and texture quality are set on low by default. Have you set these to high yet? If so and the issue persists: what hardware and OS are you running it on? Modern machines are notorious for inducing graphic problems.

Does this happen on large city tiles with a lot of development already?
And does it happen in the north-east corner of your city most of the time?

Then it could be Prop Pox.

Hi, thanks for the quick replies, in answer to the first reply by Vortex, I have set all the graphics to high and still no change. I am running a custom built PC with a 3d graphics card, plenty of RAM, a fast CPU and Windows 7. I had SC4 running well until last night and have since tried re-installing 3 times with the same result. Could it be that I need to do something before installing the NAM plug-in?

Also to answer Franku, this is happening in all parts of any previous cities large and small I had in build, not just in the North Eastern corners.

I have added an image to show the problem with 2 Eastland Grand,in a new build test city, it generally gets worse as the game progresses.

regards, Dave

OK, I don't think this is Prop Pox....
This is the good news.

The bad news is: I don't know what it can be.
Sorry.  ()what()

Hi Franku, thanks for the reply, I am trying a completely new install again with newly downloaded NAM addon etc... lets see if this cures the problem.

I have installed SC4, as soon as I add 2 Eastland Grand the same problem appears, i.e. missing textures, this is without adding the NAM, so maybe the problem is with this addon. We shall see.

Regards, Dave.

Based on the picture I'd say you were just missing a texture pack for that specific lot as the vanilla lots seem alright. From you're description about it getting worse however it sounds like there could be something else going on. Maybe a picture from one of the established cities would be more telling. Also, what specific brand graphic card? iirc there're some issues with some Nvidea cards, though someone more knowledge on that front could chime in here.

Hi Vortex, thanks for your reply, I cannot find any texture pack addon for 2 Eastland Grand as the file description does not suggest any dependencies are required.
Unfortunately I have uninstalled and removed all the old cities in case there was a problem with some of the files that were associated with them. I am now in the process of building a new city without the NAM addon (which I am downloading again, very slowly  due to poor bandwith), so far so good.

The video card I have installed is an ATI Radeon 5400 series card, which has so far been very reliable.

I will keep an eye on the progress of this city and post any photos if the problem arises again.

Regards, Dave.

Well best to work at one problem at a time really, if you are missing a lot of textures/props (buildings) then perhaps you have accidentally deleted a dependency or maybe more?

FYI that station does have a required base texture dependency, I changed my version to Maxis IIDs only a few weeks back so I know it doesn't use the Maxis textures. Have you installed the dependency BSC Textures Vol.1, I just checked and that's where the white sidewalk texture comes from?

Given that we've established you are likely missing one dependency file, I am going to take a guess that this is the most likely cause of your problems elsewhere too. It's really not a good idea to assume the worst and go trying to fix something that might not be broken. Playing around with graphics settings and the general setup of SC4 when the problem is elsewhere will only cause you more headaches in the long run.

Hi, thanks for all the replies, so far so good, I installed the texture file and 2 Eastland Grand today and all seem fine now. I will keep building the test city and see what happens .

Thanks for all your help, it is much appreciated.
