Title: Z's fixed CAM 1.0 file?
Post by: swagnemite on July 30, 2015, 01:52:54 AM
Greetings.

It has came to my attention that there is an already fixed version of CAM.dat file, which can be applied to a CAM installation in order to fix the workforce bug without the need for the dat pack.

It has been posted on simtropolis (here: http://community.simtropolis.com/forums/topic/56715-to-cam-or-not-to-cam-that-is-the-question/?page=2) as well as referred to in these very same forums. However, the link provided by Z is either dead or unavailable from my location.

I've been trying to find this fixed .dat for a long while for a number of reasons. I've lurked across the entire forum ... Nothing. I've tried to contact Z directly, but it's impossible to get him to notice my existence, let alone actually answer one of my PMs.

So, with this said, I have no choice but to turn towards the community.

Is there, by chance, anybody still in possession of the prized file?

First off, welcome to the site, swagnemite!

While z's account may appear to be online most of the time, he is, to my knowledge, either not actually there ("Forever" login option), or at least, not able to respond.

That said, it appears I may have the file.  Since he did post the link on that public thread at ST (it was distributed privately for quite some time prior to that), it should be alright to re-upload it.

Hallelujah!

Cheers for the welcome mate. I'm a little bit ashamed of my first post being an actual request ... Must make me look a tad odd ... But damn, it helped!

It was too big to do as a forum attachment, so I've Dropboxed it. [link] (https://www.dropbox.com/s/t03rzx184m335if/ColossusAddonMod_1.0_Update_by_z.zip?dl=0).

All Hail the glorious preservation master! For he has enabled yet another generation of SC4 mayors to see the light of not needing Dat Pack! The complex and difficult task of installing CAM is now made possible! All Hail The Great!

EDIT: Finally ... I have the power ... To build an entire nation ...Then watch it being destroyed by the powers that be (read: aliens). More seriously, I still have half the LEX to go through for models and dependencies. But this boost motivated me even more. Many thanks, once again, without your help this wouldn't be possible.

You don't have to comb through any of the exchanges to get the CAM to work any more than what's given; that's only if you want new buildings. I suppose Alex has the information you'd need here.

Indeed. I have been searching for this file for quite a while, so I had time to properly get informed about CAM. I'm aware it's "standalone" and doesn't exactly needs new CAMeLOTs to work. However it is strongly recommended to increase diversity, isn't it? Besides with Alex here taking his time to post the fix for such lazy or incapable of Dat Packing people as myself, I would feel lazy beyond acceptable if I didn't take at least some time to put CAM on it's best possible footing.

Though I'm probably going to test it without additional lots for a first couple hours. Simply because the wait has made me unable to resist.

Kinda, though there are CAM packs that require few to no dependencies to get up and running, making installation easier. (I just don't know where there exact locations are.)

I'll find the most fitting ones. If I ever get to it, I might actally CAMify other lots. Right now I'm working on a plugin folder which will transform most if not all SC4 aesthetics into asian counterparts. Mostly CN or JP style, but I like Korean architecture as well.

Either way, the most difficult part is through and through, the rest isn't that much of a problem. Cheers for the help and advice though!

The actual CAMification process is actually pretty easy with the SC4-PIM tool (AKA PIM-X) on the LEX.  With my last plugin rebuild, I actually did that with a whole bunch of things.  I also compiled this list (https://simtarkus.wordpress.com/2014/01/28/building-up-a-plugins-folder-of-camelots-the-quick-and-legitimate-way/) quite some time ago, which might also be useful.

That list. That's quite a good direction you pointing me at, right there. Cheers!

However ...

The "couple of hours" I was supposed to take to test newly installed CAM are steadily transforming into "couple dozen hours" at this time. I've also been toying around with RTMT as well as learned how to write LTEXT files with iLive Reader.

After all these endeavors (which are still taking place and probably aren't going to be ending anytime soon), I'm not so sure anymore as to when exactly I'll start raiding for CAMelots. One thing for sure though: SC4 scares me. I remember playing ten years ago. When I just became a teenager. Seeing the amount of work and possibilities open right now ... It's scary.

Special mention: The census repository is scary. So much information. All of it useful. I think I'm going through a shock effect ... So ... Much ... Everything ...

Special mention 2: I'm supposed to be "busy with life", but I got a feeling I'll stick to learning the ropes of SC4 modification despite that. I'm addicted. I'm a junkie. Well, at least it's legal.

EDIT: Aaaaaand I'm running into a bunch of trouble with RTMT. I'll lurk that board for a bit.

EDIT2 : Finally. RTMT is calibrated and working. No offense, but damn that default blue bus stop cuts my eyes ... And STEX seems to have some issues so good luck getting new ones. Luckily, SG's bus stops saved the day (and my nerve system). I really should get some rest though. It's not healthy to stay awake for so long. Especially since STEX is down, this is a good occasion.

G'night and once more thanks for all the help. Off I go.
