Hi there guys,
I just thought I'd might find some help for this very annoying problem over here.
I bought SC4 and Rush Hour separately, and I played them just fine in XP. (Without patch though)
Now, I'm sitting on a Vista machine (A64 3700+ on a Abit KN8-Ultra MB, 2048mb RAM, GF7800GT and Windows Vista Ultimate.).
This is forcing me, more or less, to install the patch for RH, as it wont start without it.
And this, in it's turn is creating a quite large problem. The patch wont patch the game!
I've seen this problem before, but no good answers to it whatsoever. I hope you guys are smarter and more experienced than those who didn't come up with anything useful the last time someone reported this problem.
Anyway, a short description of the problem itself;
1. Installed SC4 (without any prior SC4 installation on this machine/OS)
2. Installed RH (and NO, I DID NOT patch SC4 before the RH installation (the last three attempts), even though I tried this the first time)
3. TRIED installing the 1.1.638.0 patch, but it simply wont update simcity_1.dat and simcity_2.dat to it's newer versions. "Old file not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match." (And yes, it is the right patch for my game version(s) (EURO).)
4. Tried doing everything all over again.
So I'm almost left just with begging on my knees here, for any solution. Or, if someone could send/.torrent the simcity_1.dat, simcity_2.dat and maybe the .exe file too. (Since the game .exe still shows 1.0.233.0 as version)
This, or if anyone knows how to extract data from an rtp program, to somehow make it update the files even though it's detecting some kind of mismatch.

Don't fight Vista. You will never defeat such an onerous foe.
If you value your time and sanity, go get a fresh copy of SC4 at a store (in the USA they sell for $19 now).
A small price to pay for your sanity. Your new rig specs are nice, why hobble it with complicated workarounds.
I don't fight it ^^ I like it quite a lot, although there are some compatibility issues with older software.
Anyway, I tried using the US patch, and for some strange reason I can't even begin to guess (except if it is simple mislabeling) it worked, and patched my game. (Even though both SC4 and RH is EURO Retail CDs)
Heh, I guess I'll never know what was up with that, but it works anyway :)
