Title: Possibly exceedingly stupid: Modifying config.bmp: Medium 2x2 not appearing
Post by: Lockesdonkey on February 15, 2016, 05:59:22 PM
I'm just coming back to SC4 after many, many years, and I decided to try my hand at creating a larger-than-usual region. So I followed what I thought were good instructions (they jibed with some stuff a friend of mine had told me years ago) and lo-and-behold: I get a bigger region. So I try to play with it a bit. And that works OK except that for whatever reason my 2x2 tiles won't appear; they show up as gaps. This is disconcerting to say the least.

For the record I am using 0,255,0 green for my 2x2s. The rest of my tiles show up just fine. I am not having any problems seeing 2x2s on game-generated regions. The region I'm running is a simple double-size square. I am running this on Mac OSX El Capitan (Version 10.11.3) with the NAM and CAM (installed from the bundle/Wineskin Mero90 created).

Please explain everything like you're talking to a five-year-old (I'm a lawyer with very limited technical computer knowledge, so I might as well be a five-year-old).

Without seeing your config image, I can't say for certain what's going wrong in your region. However, the fact that only the medium quads won't show up suggests two possible explanations:
1) The shade of green you used wasn't as pure green as you thought it was, or
2) The green areas don't cover some multiple of 2x2 pixels.

Again, though, I can't confidently diagnose the problem without access to the config.

I've taken a closer look and I've discovered that my editor (an elcheapo substitute for MS Paint) saves pure green as a less-pure green. Does anyone know of an alternate BMP editor for Macs?
