Title: Skyliner's BAT garage
Post by: skyliner on July 23, 2007, 06:12:04 AM
Hello I began my BATing adventure a few days ago and thought i should show case here also to get more feedback and criticism. So I began with simple homes from my area and transformed one of them to a shop.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv437%2Ftype_r_rx7%2Ffdgdsfgsdfsdfgfd.jpg%3Ft%3D1185167871&hash=91384e79d247a175e2eaef215da6db8dbad073c7)

I also was wondering how can i get the sign to light up as i attempted many times. And does anyone have any great window textures? They are really hard to find sufficent ones online!

THANKS! $%Grinno$%

It's a great start  ;D!  I would reccomend adding some roof junk though.
To make the sign glow, unless you're using 3ds max, the only I know is to add a night window to it.
For the textures, I think there are a few textures that came with gmax and bat, but if you need more, simtropolis has some to offer on the stex:
http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?page=1 and just search window texture.

Thanks! I added a night window to it but it made the whole canopy white. Also i cant seem to find roof junk for just homes its more of office buildings and such. I want satellite dish, aluminum chimney, skylight.

I felt homes and small things werent my cup of joe so i went and began my next project, the Citycorp Center in San Francisco. There are almost no San Francisco BATs and well i hope to change that with my new series of continous downtown construction. Ill do the older buildings in the beginning since the latest modern ones are more complex

So without a further adew, heres the Citycorp Center; so far
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv437%2Ftype_r_rx7%2Fciticorp.jpg%3Ft%3D1185324538&hash=f1096c79a376628298d24e303bd1271d56e4d0c9)

A lot of ways to go but this isnt too hard of a building to BAT. just the rounded windows will be tricky.

Is it a just a perception trick or is it true that some of the windows ( 3 lowest row of them) are not aligned to the rest of them? ()what()
Generally it is better to start with smaller things to learn technical basics stuff like snapping and so on without being overwhelmed, but God did I do the same thing? Yes I did.
I wish you luck, patience and perseverance with this one!
;)

Yea the windows are not aligned. i created three rows of windows and then cloned them. Unless there is a better way to do that i will just have to move each piece until it fits nicely.

Looking good so far!  lol, you do the same as me, go for the big stuff first!   As for the windows, you could always use the array tool... under tools > array.

I put skyscrapers away for the time being to make some neon Tokyo blocks i really need for my CJ! So here is the progress so far. Comments and criticisms accepted!

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv437%2Ftype_r_rx7%2FJPACK.jpg%3Ft%3D1187216646&hash=9971bca90d602edcb9695947e3c3084d3b02a65e)

Anyone know how to make the neon effect? Similar to wat Krio did on his Panasonic Building? :P
Title: Re: Tokyo Neonization Project
Post by: Krio on August 16, 2007, 01:40:48 AM
I simply used a nightmap and placed Panasonic text on it. There are many nightmaps on STEX, e.g NDEX's and XDesignTeam's and you can always do them your self, like normal textures. You can use only ONE nightmap at time, but you can use many omni-lights in different colour to light up indoor spaces. You can't light up normal sign with omnis.

Looks nice, what krio said should work, or you can give the texture 100 self illumination so it glows at night, thats what i did with my shaws supermarket.
Title: Re: Tokyo Neonization Project
Post by: skyliner on August 16, 2007, 04:57:46 PM
I downloaded the night maps but not too sure on how to use it. Also patriots can you please elaborate on how to do the teture illumination thing? Well i began work on building number 2! Its based off of Sakura-ya in Shinjuku so i call it SHINJUKUYA!

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv437%2Ftype_r_rx7%2FShinjukuya.jpg%3Ft%3D1187308407&hash=e4e12fd6d04e9d8faecfcc29118cd6dc5bf116ed)

Progress after messing around with the model for about an hour.

There are advice on ST, pm Jasoncw if you can't find it. I'm not gonna start saying it all over again  :D This new building looks good, keep up the good work. Work with the details, and you became even better than now. The thing is in the details  ;)

Hi all, ive recently picked up the BAT tool again and went ahead and tried a somewhat simple typical Tokyo box. This one is modeled after the Kogakuin University building so i'll call it Kogakuin Center.

Im having problems in the preview mode, it doesnt center and this is the only shot i can get of the actual building. This is zoom 3.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv437%2Ftype_r_rx7%2Fkogakuin.jpg%3Ft%3D1199561859&hash=963c0e020db85eb2bc38803bf3bc572b2bba9bb8)

After i finish modeling though, ill need someone to help export it because my computer most likely cant handle it. When this building is done, probably take a while; i'll continue making more Tokyo Blocks. There have been lots of iconic towers but most of normal cities are just box towers and im going to try to capture that.

Then you might have mirrored the parts and it causes texturing clitch. But latest's roof looks like water?

Sadly, you have to delete the wall, and redo it, you should be able to keep the windows though.

Why?  Just apply a planar UV map to each wall...or select all the walls and apply a box UV map.

Having been through this, using the mirror to make the wall, is all it seems to take to mess up the MAP, even if you apply the MAP afterwards.

Never come across it before in all my years of modelling...always using mirror and never have any mapping issues, and I've mirrored entire structures in the past with no problem.

I recently read that it depends on how you mirror it (from the main menu causes problems, and from the side bar, it don't), and I tried it from the menu, but not the side bar.
Title: Re: Skyliner's BAT garage
Post by: autoVino on March 11, 2008, 06:57:54 PM
for mirroring, I also nver get this problem.  I get terrible texture problmes when changing systme units, but that's expected since system units are pretty screwy.
Also, I don't think it's a texturing glitch, but an anti aliasing glitch.  From the zoom that you look at, the texture lines up in such a way that the diagonal lines become visible.  I can't really it into words, so sorry for the vagueness.

Heres a new project I began. I call it the Setagaya Project, creating many BATs of small residential Commercial W2W buildings that are not existent in SC4. It is named after my birth city, which is also the biggest in population in Tokyo and very residential.

Heres Setagaya 1:

I think the white brick doesn't look really appealing. I mean a few white-brick buildings are nice, but red/brown brick is nicer in my opinion, and I think you should include some in your set. :)

Well actually in Japan, white brick is really common and red brick isn't. I may try some other color bricks though but usually they are just painted bricks and also it doesn't support the buildings but just is aesthetics. Or else they would crumble in an earthquake.

Well perhaps making the brick look more "dirty" or realistic, because the white looks SOOO clean and it sticks out in the game.  But over all, I really like your Project idea. :)

Looking to be a beautiful product when complete. Ignore the brown thingy, its what i used to make the arches. Zoom 4 by the way

While looking through Skyscraper city, I saw a building that inspired me..

So I present Nico Sia Inc. Offices

I was thinking the original (1) was too small so i made it bigger. Let me know which one looks the best. All zoom 4 levels

Each looks good. I'm not sure what the original building looks like, but I would actually suggest making lots for 2 and 3 (and perhaps 1). It never hurts to have the variety and each can fit in its own particular place. Good work.

The original was 1, good idea, I can create different colored varients for each one!

Thanks guys for your input. Since 3 seems popular, I will create a different version with it.
Heres what I have of it so far..

This is Autobacs, a major automotive store in Japan; I began this a while ago but am getting back to it. The problem is there are a lack of pictures online for me to get a general idea of how to make the building. If anyone can provide pictures, that would be great!

Heres the progress now. Did lots of texturing and added some props; banners, tire rack, vending machine. Also added window frames and made another garage on the side. I think its turning out well. Still not sure what to put on the other two sides, maybe parking or something. I also went ahead and did some nightlighting. I get weird leaks and such. I don't know where the light could be leaking from. Notice the West side at night, the sign is really bright. I don't know what leak is causing this. Anyways if anyone has pictures of advertisements related to cars or has suggestions as to what I should put on the remaining sides, please do let me know

Here is a new creation I have done. Anyone know what it is? About 2 hours worth of progress, this one won't be too hard since there aren't windows to worry about! Its HUGE though, thats zoom 4 view!
Airport hangar? ;D

No.. that was supposed to be Cow Palace, an arena near my house which houses Rodeos and used to be home of the Warriors and the Sharks. Also its where my graduation was and yesterday, American Idol auditions for SF.

Too bad, its too big for my computer so errors killed it. Thats why i try smaller projects like Autobacs! ;D

I am quite satisfied with the results. the two garage things on the South side are parking entrances and exits to an underground garage. I hope to release these by sometime next week, and then I can BAT as much as I want because Summer classes end this week! ;D $%Grinno$%

Seeing as skyscrapers aren't my thing and my computer definately can't handle them, I returned to my old project Drugstore Mori. It's still a work in progress but it is making progress. I have break in about two days so definately will get it done soon. Just got to finish one more final and I'll also try to get out the Setagaya set too.

So here is a work in progress
