David - it's very nice you think about future (rather than about past)
But... What that driver should get out for?
He can drive without any obstacles - no traffic, no problems. Personally I love empty roads :D
He hasn't also any problems with parking
Btw - what do you think, wchich traffic sign stays here (see lower part of the picture)
And - have you ever seen an excellent (very old) movie by Jacques Tati "Mr Hulot amongst cars" (I translated from Polish, I don't know if it's correct). There is an amazing scene on the roundabout shortly before the end of this movie :D
Excellent, Ennedi. Excellent!
David
p.s.: No, I haven't seen that movie- but I will take it as a recommendation and look for it- thank you. -DE
LoL OMG that is sooooo Funnnie David.... That is defintly a rundabout gone wrong... and i totaly agree i thought sims where only that stuppid to do that lol...
well what i would do is try and run over that grass, but im guessing theres gonna be somthing there to prevent me from escaping. that planter in the center looks like a nice ramp :)
David,
The original title of this movie is "Trafic" (1971)
You can read more here (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0004244/)
Visit also the official site of Jacques Tati - it is worth of it (http://www.tativille.com/)
When I saw the title, I thought of another roundabout.
Want roundabouts, well here is one coming up:

Gotta love Swindon town planners...It's actually great fun to drive around, but best to do it in a banged up french car :D :D
The first roundabout must be wrong - he's going around it the wrong way! Oh, yeah, only us Brits (and a few other crazy countries) drive clockwise around roundabouts.
And as for the multi roundabout roundabouts - there are more and more of them cropping up in England. We have a big one in Benfleet with 5 roundabouts around one large one - great fun!
my god that is just nuts there Vester.... I would just give up and drive straight for my direction of travel.... skip going around them circles, I would look like a dog chasing its tail in that roundabout :D :D
Hello, David.
My, that is one interesting picture you've posted. Are to assume this is a "real" picture or did someone take it as a joke? It truly is an interesting photo.
I remember the first time I encountered a traffic circle. It was in New Jersey in 1970. I had no idea what it was (having been born and raised in a small town in Kansas) and approached it with great trepidation. to be perfectly honest with you, I seem to remember going round and round it three or four times before learning where to "come out".
Thanks for sharing this interesting picture.
Regards,
Gary (Vandy)
I couldn't believe this when this happend to me, I encountered Roundabout's here in Wisconsin in the City of Mount Horeb (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Horeb_%28WI%29), they actually use them instead of traffic lights... How I found this out was a few weeks ago I took a trip down to Platteville Wisconsin and I stopped in Mount Horeb to take a rest and get a drink and I couldn't believe it!!! I plan on going back down there soon and actually remember to take my camera so I can take pics lol....
LOLzerz! Those roundabouts are totally insane $%Grinno$%
Those roundabouts are crazy! If I encountered them I would have absolutely no idea what to do. Are roundabouts within roundabouts really necessary? Why not have one big several lane circle instead? This just looks like confusion for the sake of confusion.

thanks a million here Gary you rock!!!
I noticed this thread and just had to take a look. The first one isn't so bad (though it has certainly gone wrong), but the one Vester posted... that just scares me. I tried following it visually but wow... we have a roundabout just a few blocks south of my law school (just one, and it's only two lanes wide). I'm curious to know if that multi-roundabout system works well or if it is just fun to drive around.
If you Americans don't like roundabouts, don't even think about visiting Milton Keynes in the UK. :D
Americans, approach with great caution. ;) (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Milton+Keynes&ie=UTF8&ll=52.041036,-0.752649&spn=0.02513,0.10849&t=p&z=14)
Let's see how many roundabouts we can count in the picture...
About a month ago, one Saturday morning at 05:00, two youngsters jacked a car in a small town in the middle of Sweden.
Obviously they weren't too familiar with the traffic layout in their neighbourhood...
Considering where they ended up, the local authorities are now planning more roundabouts.
All in order to catch future potential car jackers... $%Grinno$%

I don't know if the driver was enough experienced, but this roundabout is simply too small for an average car and it is horribly uneven!
And I was thinking only in Poland roadworks are made carelessly... :D
LoL Adam it seems that Finland and polish have something in common when it comes to road design lol
Ok, these might not be that crazy, but they're perfect examples of what happens when you make cutbacks in funding for the road department. Both pictures are from my hometown Umeå, north Sweden.
E4/E12 interchange. Instead of building a real interchange, with on/offramps, they made this one. A huge roundabout with a slip lane.

Well, this one is a bit crazy actually. These are roundabouts around Teg's Centrum connecting to E4. Confusing? Very much so!

Yeah I know that instead of chastising someone for bumping a thread I'm adding my own input... :-[ But I have some roundabout pictures that I feel need to be shown.
Here are a couple satelllite photos I, um, borrowed, from Google Earth. These roundabout variants are somewhat common in Barcelona and throughout Spain for intersecting a primary road with a secondary street. IMO they entirely defeat the purpose of a roundabout...

Smurf those are very confussing indeed and Nerdly I agree that does defeet the purpose of a roundabout lol..
It may have bumped the thread, but these things are interesting enough that I think it is warranted. Nice finds guys.
LOL! That Spanish roundabout is completely useless! It could have been a normal 4-way intersection
Michigan's gotta be laughing right now . . . . . that's totally a jughandle gone wrong!
Speaking of Michigan ()stsfd() Engineers had a better idea and decided if one roundabout was good then why not try a double! ;D Check this out, this double is located at US 23 and Lee Rd in Brighton, MI. Not only is there a double but if you look closely you will see 3 more in a very short space on the right side of US 23.

Not only in Spain do they managed to build weird roundabouts
they do it here in the UK too
for example how about this

TTC
The roundabouts that look useless because they are at a 4-way crossing are in fact very handy - and the ONLY roundabout that I like (i hate the normal ones). The purpose of these "roundabouts" is to avoid that straight on traffic is hampered that way by left-turning cars waiting for oncoming traffic....
I could say that Europeans are crazy ::), but since this is an international site, I will say that European traffic engineers are crazy(or out of a job! :P)
EDIT: If I were old enough to drive, I would probaley get killed at that first UK "roundabout." Did you notice that the red car in the third picture looks like it just drove over the center!
Yeah - and it's a two-way rouundabouut too - very rare...
Also I found one of those flawed roundabouts I posted above in Madrid, so they aren't only in Barcelona like i'd thought...
But the first one TTC showed is truly the murdered roundabout... ???

That it does, but looking at the pic above it, it looks like that truck's trailer is about to roll right over the center (or may just miss it entirely) and go on the opposite side. I'm guessing that wasn't the anticipated vehicle for that area.
Derry I would say that you would be easier to just go straight on your bike threw those roundabouts that have gone sooo wrong lol.......
Sorry for this old picture with the crossroads not there yet, it makes it look accident free, but the truth is there is no stop signs here, and people here for some reason think YIELD means go, but there are no signs even informing you need to do that. In fact, my life sort of is the reason they selected my suburb to put one of these circles in, since I almost got smooshed by this old lady, they promised to improove the intersection, since she didn't know what yield meant, then they put school crossing signs up on the right of way, then they replaced yield with stop, and finally a traffic circle was constructed for always to slow down, except the 2 stop signs crossing stayed. However, it was so bad, they made 7 attemts to change the signs in the middle of the traffic circle, until they finally got custom arrows, but you can still speed straight through at 40 mph on the one side, due to uncareful foreign labored construction, not curved enough. Roundabouts are so bad, my grandfather couldn't get to my house, because he got spun around, he only missed it by a block. My state's policy is traffic improovement, only After a fatality in incorporated areas.
From what I understand, TTC's roundabout, despite the complication, really gets you to slowdown. Although I don't see why so much. America on the otherhand, this round about, there is just no control here, and they allow the right lanes to go through all the way, rather then turn off. I think that is dangerous, because you can be crossing in that right lane, while someone from the left is speeding through the middle lane, and broadsides ya, but maybe vice verca. Its just again, no stop signs. There is heavy 8 way round about in this state, that actually says STOP, with the 2 right turn only arrows. Maybe this circle here, it very right lanes should have been strictly for only turning at that spot. Now you see how there is an arrow left before the entrance, I have seen trucks drive the wrong way through here but I've also seen them try to drive the wrong side of oneway streets in neighborhoods as well. Stop signs or not, since they get blown anyway, this state just has issues with controlling traffic, and is considering more roundabouts.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ftruemors.com%2Fblog%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2008%2F05%2Fbh-stop-billion-dollar-fine.jpe&hash=99cf97efc3b26696f2a23b676688f4a5d7650c9e) And I guess funny enforcement in this state the federal government didn't like.
In an unrelated story, stop signs in my state gone wrong. (http://images.google.com/images?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4GWYE_enUS257US257&q=oak%20lawn%20stop%20signs&um=1&sa=N&tab=wi)

those are truly gone wrong there Cas!!
You wonder why the second to last has an overpass, which sorta defeats the purpose of the roundabout in the first place(unless it's off a highway or something), and in the fourth, fifth, and last, you wonder what the drivers were (or weren't) thinking!
