Title: Buildings on slopes - Zermatt
Post by: Ennedi on August 10, 2007, 08:50:50 AM
Zermatt - one of the most famous and scenic villages in Switzerland, at the foot of Matterhorn

People in Switzerland take great care to their environment. Car traffic in Zermatt is prohibited (but there are a lot of nice electric vehicles here). You must leave your car/bike 6 km earlier on the huge parking and get on to the electric railway.

You can see this road bridge from the railway:

Zermatt - central place. I like this monument a lot  :D (these are whistlers)

It seems somebody used the "Plop a cow" tool here... :D

Very good, there is a hidden idea here  :D
I saw many buildings on slopes in alpine countries. They have different styles, but their foundations are very similar, made of stone (mainly light - grey granite or sandstone) with some small windows. I don't know if it is possible, but it would be very good to change the default SC4 foundation wall to something similar. Such stone-made generic foundation isn't aggressive and it could fit to many different sc4 buildings. Maybe somebody would be interested in it?

Of course, buidings on slopes in other regions (for example mediterranean) are completely different, but it's impossible to make something fitting with everything  ;)

Man, I want to go to Switzerland. Or anywhere in Europe. Actually, anywhere outside of the United States. Anyway...

Beautiful pictures, Ennedi! I love the SC4 tie in, too, with the building on slopes!

It's interesting... You live in such beautiful and diversified country   ::) I'd like to see it one time...
However, I understand you - every of us needs sometimes to change the climate  :D

But I can tell you a short story:
A few years ago - from 1995 to 2001 - I had good time. We (me and my wife) had a lot of work and enough money to travel. The only problem was we haven't much time. Our only free time was from 15 December to about 5-10 January each year. As I said, we had good work, but we were extremely tired of it (rather psychically). We thought the only way to relax was to go outside as far as we can - and we went to Scotland, Spain, Italy... We saw a lot of wonderful things and met some interesting people.
But when we came back home, we didn't feel as relaxing as we supposed earlier.
And one time when we were coming back from a long journey and crossing at night the Polish border I saw the hills, forest and told to my wife: "It seems to me Poland isn't less beautiful than other countries".

Now I can't travel at all. I had less money for a few years (some of my employers didn't pay for my work, some others paid very slowly). Now I have again better time, but I have a dog (giant schnauzer 5 years old) and he isn't a voyager at all. If I would go otside, he would sit at the door all the time, day and night. I don't want do cause it.
But I changed myself last few years and I understood the way to relax is not far away, it is inside of you. And every of us have enough wonderful things very close, but we forgotten how to see them. All we need is to change our mind, not to go far away.

But of course Europe is beautiful... :D

Sorry for poor English  &mmm

I understand completely. For myself, every time I go somewhere far away, there is a sense of satisfaction when I first return home. It feels like, well, "home." The United States is definitely a beautiful and diversified country, but I've always had a soft spot for Europe and hope that I make it there one day.
