Title: GLR - Subway Station.....
Post by: Kitsune on August 20, 2007, 09:27:43 AM
I've looked, and looked, and looked some more, and cant find a dual GLR - Subway Station, so I'm requesting one.

Thanks.

There are a few of them included in Cogeo's Roadtop Mass Transit V3.50 (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1057) (with the GLR in the middle of the avenue).

Yeah, except I have no avenue in sight for the area.

I could have made a "simple" GLR station (using the same props as the rest, for uniforn apperance), sitting on the GLR track only (draggable or puzzle pieces). However, adding a subway entrance prop to such a station may cause problems. Nightlighting would be lost as it would be close to the edge (or even crossing the edge) of the lot. Props close to the edge of a lot may loose their nightlights. This is an feature of the game itself, and it is solved if the tile next is not empty, ie if you plop or grow any kind of lot there (RCI, civic, park etc). It occurs with my other RTMT stations too, but as the tiles behind the roadtop station almost always contain another lot, it is fixed. But in this case neighbouring tiles would be a road network, and road networks  don't fix the nightlighting problem. Plus such a station would pose planning requirements for your networks too, ie the GLR track should be placed parallel and adjacent to a road network (at least for a few tiles) and this is not flexible. Making the station two tiles deep (ie adding one row of tiles between the GLR track and the road) would solve the nightlighting problem for the props, but would require the GLR track be 1 tile away of the road, still not flexible.
You can get roughly the "hub" functionality by using ingame techniques only, ie place a subway station close to the GLR station. Both must touch the same road, for the sims to be able to walk from the one to the other. Only drawbacks the short distance they will have to walk, and that the switching would require 4 transit switches, not 2. But as for GLR stations and subway stations the "Transit Switch Entry Cost" is usually 0, this aint be a problem.
Otherwise you should try make something yourself, there are many GLR and subway stations on the STEX and the lex, and you can use them as props in the Lot Editor. It's not easy to make something that would satisfy all (not even most) players because of the networks placement requirements, as explained above. So making it yourself would be the only way to make it exactly as you want it.
