I am experiencing some problems with certain terrain mods, namely the Meadowshire, Olympic, Missouri Breaks and sometimes the Canyonlands mods. The most common issue seems to be related to terrain elevation. They will work fine at lower elevations but the game crashes at higher elevations. Today I actually removed all plug-ins and regions, created a test region and the game still crashed as soon as I added the terrain mod.
This problem has gone away, at least with the canyonlands mod, with the plug-in and region files put back in to the game...???
Another issue is that of the level ground textures randomly changing during game play.
Thank you for any help/ideas you can offer.

The "randomly" changing terrain textures is part of the design for some of the terrain mods. In the drier months (summer), the terrain takes on a drier look, like there hasn't been rain for awhile. The default Maxis terrain does the same thing, but it is not as noticeable.

You must make sure that you have the appropriated terrain controller file for every terrain mod. And you must also make sure you have only one terrain controller file installed at a time. I hope this helps ;)
Thanks for the prompt replies. &apls
The difference is drastic and sometimes appears when saving or zooming. Goes from reddish to green, so it seemed unusual. I was wondering if it was my video card.
To make sure I had no files missing or any conflicts I downloaded the mod directly into the plug-in folder and removed all other plug-ins, though as I mentioned, it is now working with the canyonlands mod.
I am in the process of preparing a region for this site but didn't want to use the default textures. I'll be making my first post soon. I'm looking forward to participating in this site, as I've done in ST for four and a half years. I like what I see here.
