Title: Simgoober is arriving in force
Post by: BarbyW on August 29, 2007, 10:51:43 AM
I have been sorting, updating and packaging all simgoober's lots. I have organised the residentials into sets by type and they have been uploaded to the LEX. I have now finished sorting, updatin and packaging all the commercial lots and am ready to start uploading but need to explain a little about how it has been done. I have sorted into types - adult lots, hotels, offices etc - and updated with the X Tool to be CAMpatible although there are not many CAM lots. In many of the oldest lots, there were separate small props and also queries. The queries were often repeated in lots so I have collected all the queries and sounds into one file and the small props into another. The models and growable lots have been packaged separately into dats using DatPacker and will be uploaded separately each with its own Cleanitol file. The ploppables will have a separate upload for those who wish to use them but you will need to download all the model packs even if you only use the ploppables. The only exception to this is that where ploppables are rewards these have been kept in with the growables.
I would ask that anyone who wants to collect the packs does the following in preparation:
1. Make sure you have installed the latest version of BSC Essentials first.
2. Run the Cleanitol file for the SG extras and back up any files found.
3. Install SG Extras.
I shall start uploading the models first then the lots so I can link the model pack in the Readme. Each Readme will not have the stats for the lots as there are many lots in each pack - over 60 in one case - but will have a linked dependency list.
The lots have been already uploaded to the LEX have not been included as they are up to date. These are the ones that go back over 3 years on the STEX and many were in need of a modding overhaul ;D Simgoober has not the time to do this himself so I volunteered to do it. I trust he will approve

BarbyW

Is Simgoober still part of BSC? havent seen him in a while.

btw - what ever happen to SNM Airforce lots?
Title: Re: Simgoober is arriving in force
Post by: BarbyW on August 29, 2007, 01:50:16 PM
Simgoober is very busy with RL but is still a part of BSC. He pops in from time to time and has sent me some of his unreleased stuff - now on the LEX. He hasn't anywhere near as much time to BAT as he had but does do a bit now and again so there will be new SG arriving.
The SNM Airforce lots were stalled when ripptide disappeared. I think he is on overseas deployment but we have not heard from him since last October. If he returns the series will continue.

I have no idea how to describe the true joygasm I just had. I've always been a huge fan of his works (to the point that I've been trying to get my BATs up to his quality), so seeing them updated is much loved and appreciated  Throw in Barby's amazing talents, and I'm left sitting here in completely dumbfounded on what to say, other than I'm going to completely rework the cities I've been forming for my MD to reflect the changes to their full potential ;D

Kitsune, I have not changed the IIDs so it should be safe but I would advise backing up the cities first, just in case ;D. You may find they dilapidate or get overgrown quite quickly which will help with the Wren effect.
If you do have problems you can always reinstall from the Cleanitol backup as the files are automatically backed up and not deleted.

do the downloads readme contain a list of the lots included? I am reinstalling my plugins and need to replace the lots I had in my city originally so need to be sure I have them installed.

The RemoveLists have the lists of the lots included in each pack. BSC Cleanitol works to reach parts other programs can't

However, I seem to have a problem with the Simgoober Small Shops Model Pack.  Every time I

download it, I get the message "The zip file is invaild or corupt".  I humbly ask you to please fix this item when

you have the time.

Thank you very much for your time and patience.

Hi nwelsh,

One minute ago I successfully downloaded and installed the model pack you mentioned. At this end of the line there isn't anything to fix. Perhaps you could try again, or try again with a different browser. IE7 works correctly ( amazing I know ).

nwelsh: clear your cache before trying again. This is a known issue that if you download unsuccessfully the remains in the cache will prevent a correct download.

I have just downloaded all of the updated Simgoober creations and updated my plugins. The amount of stuff I was missing but now have thanks to all your had work Barby is incredible. A very large cuppa is on the way to you for ALL the work you do in the background to make the game so enjoyable for us all.

I then created a test area with just the dependencies and simgoober lots to check all was there and I seem to be missing the chocolate Boutique. see below.

Everyother lot and prop was perfect except for just this one thing

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg204.imageshack.us%2Fimg204%2F769%2F09012007220120ms3.jpg&hash=b9c1fc034db4f5da13f33fdc102d3b67773f42db)

I have done a thorough search for the missing building but cannot find it and as the packs have been amalgamated, its a bit difficult to find the readme also so I could track it down. your assistance would be appreciated.

Thanking you in advance Goddess

Oh, now this is just awesome. This is one heck of a project you've got here Barby! Great for people who don't want to hunt down everything SG, or a good way to get people into SC4 by having all of SG's stuff organzed and updated! &apls

Though there are a few things I found while going around with cleanitol -

Residentials:
in the \Simgoober\RLS\Homes folder (using SG's file hierarchy), it seems a few files remain:
I went through the cleanitol lists - this 2x3 Berwick isn't listed (but everything else is under that). Not exactly an expert and reading SC4tool, but the dependency scanner shows a 2x3 berwick (R$4_2x3_SG_Berwick_01). I assume this one is actually of a different growth stage (if you updated it). The Brownstones I'm not entirely sure about.

Commercials:
Entertainment:
in the \Simgoober\RLS\MovieTheatres:
the Entertainment_Lots dat file doesn't list a 6x4 century movie theatre according to SC4Tool.

Hotels:
in \Simgoober\Hotels\Ritz Carlton:
the cleanitol grabbed the lot, but not this (it was looking for the SC4model files). I assume everything but the lot is in the .dat file, so that should be included in the cleanitol file. (Downloaded this from the STEX)

Shops:
in \Simgoober\PlopAShop\Pack 4\ folder:
Can't find it in the new small shop lots dat, although if it was a repeat then there already is a 2x4 in that .dat; the cleanitol doesn't have this file listed though.

Nothing too bothersome for you I hope. :)

I think I shall post a pack of master Cleanitol files separately when all the RCI growables and ploppables are done rather than update the packs on the LEX. It will save bandwidth

query doesnt seem to work for Borders Books either.

/edit: also, it seems like many of the single-family homes seem to have their capacities bumped up by quite a bit (around seven-fold with some). Was this intentional to have it work better with the CAM?

Ok, I have a little problem here with missing a texture on one of the lots.  It's with the SG_CheckCashing lots in the SG_Models_Small_Shops.dat.  Somehow, I'm missing the base texture for it and I've downloaded all of the dependencies listed on the readme that came with the lot download for the small shops.  The texture has the ID of 0x1DA4446A.  Does anybody know who's mega pack that texture might be in?

Thanks in advance for the help.
Title: Re: Simgoober is arriving in force

The file for that texture is in the
SG Extras (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1090) pack on the LEX.
The SC Extras pack has been updated to include some missing queries. The files for these were in the ploppable lots that are still being processed.

In a snap, Camelot was making history...for having the first Hooters in SimNation, located right across from Camelot International Airport.

I was noticing the flurry of new SG buildings everywhere, as well as my existing high-rise office buildings saying "CO$$$ Stage ___". (They were CAMeLots, thus the name of my city. I meant it to be beefy enough for CAM.)

I think one of the problems we have here is that when simgoober updated lots on the STEX some of us didn't get the updates. That is certainly why I gave the individual model and desc instead of SG_RitzCarlton.dat. I did try to download everything from the STEX but at nearly 300 files I may have missed the odd update or two on the way as I already had a particular file. As I said above I think the best solution is to post a set of master Cleanitol files - one each for R,C and I - when I have finished the RCI uploads and incorporate all the files listed by people in this thread. That way I should hopefully cover all bases so please continue to post any left over file names in here.
I would suggest removing the left over files to the same directory as that used by Cleanitol so if there is a problem you can reinstate them. The three hotels in your list, Patrick, were all updated with the loose model and descs in a dat, which are the ones I had, unlike the Ritz Carlton where I had the loose ones - see the problem ;D

I do see the problem... Really emphasizes what an enormous undertaking updating all these lots is!  ::)

This is EXCELLENT !!! Thousands of incredible BATs are now engrossing my already crowded Plugins folder...
Congratulations on this new achievement, BarbyW. This is indeed a BIG one. Many of the Goober's buildings are a "must have", and I think everyone at SC4D will really appreciate your hard work.
(I have to admit that I've spent a looong time downloading this stuff and installing it, because I had already "packed" most of the .dat files from SimGoober in my Plugins folder, but it was well worth the effort!!)

Again, thanks A LOT  ;)

First of all, I want to thank you, Barby, yet again for the immense amount of work and effort that you have put into all of this. I can assure you, and I am sure that most others agree, that it is truly appreciate and is not - for the most part and by the most of us, at least - going unnoticed.

Secondly, I do however have one trivial question.  ;D My question pertains to the recently uploaded "SG Industrial Lots Ploppables simgoober". I would like to know if there are any LOTs in there that do not have growable counterparts?

I generally (well, mostly) do not like installing ploppables because they clutter up and unnecessarily increase the loading times of both the game and the in-game menus. Therefore I would just like to know whether or not I'll be missing any of the Great SG's BATs and / or LOTs by not DLing and installing the aforementioned file?

Other than that, there are no questions and queries, and most definitely no complaints. Instead, a huge kudos from sunny (and heat-wave stricken) South Africa!  ()stsfd()  ;D

M, none of the lots in there are without growables. Where are unique plops these are usually rewards and have been included with the growables for that reason. If you don't use plops then don't bother with the file. I don't and have dumped all of them.

Looking for any help with the SimGoober seasonals. I have CSX reward farms that work as they should, and a number of other SimGoober ploppables that function as expected. I have other seasonals that change properly, but not the SimGoober ones.  I've searched myself and am unable to find what might be missing. Any hints or help on dependencies appreciated.

The ones with problems are the rice field, tulips, corn, wheat, beans, flower and peanuts fields. And of course these are the ones that the game puts in all the time.

Now let me say that this site is awesome. I have been lurking, reading and searching for weeks now you all seem to be of great help to all. &apls &apls &apls

Its sure nice to have all of simgoober in one file. Thank you for this endeavor. Today I did the next step. To remove all the simgoober plops in all of my cities. I didnt realize how much I had plopped. I replaced them all with the building plop tool. All the simgoober ducks appeared to line up according to the new rebuild accept for Buffalo Grill.  It still queried with live jobs. I have checked my file and have removed all required files for Buffalo Grill. I have checked all the farms and everything appears just fine. You have done a great bang up job on this thank you.  &apls

Hi Barby,

Just wanted to ask if we are done with SG updates or is there still more to come? Do you still intend to post a master Cleanitol list at some point? On the previous page, there is a sizeable list of stray files that may or may not need to be removed. A few of these were included in the remove lists with the ploppables (mini golf, century theater, plop-a-shop 4) but there are quite a few others. I've gone ahead and deleted the three sets of hotel files - seems clear that they can go - but what about the others?

EDIT: Now that I think about it I guess there must still be ploppable industrials in the pipeline, right?

The industrial ploppables are on the LEX now. We still have to do the civic buildings etc so I shall leave a Master list until they are done.

And just FYI, I am no longer doing anything SC4 related.  Only took a little over 2 years, but I finally just burned out on it.  I do catch myself BATting in my head sometimes, but other than that, nothing going on.  It was fun while it lasted, and I did enjoy working with the team.

Da Goob has always been my man as far as models go.. he has generally given me the kind of buildings over the years that fit my "concept" of what they should look like.. a bit messy as though used, but not generally "trashed out".. and much more modern and "western" than a lot of others.. Good to have him pop in to say "hi" and great of barby to care enought to invest tons of her time and energy to keep the spark alive here..

Sorry to hear that you have left the SimCity community for good but rest assured, your creations will live on as long as there is only a single player of the game left. Your creations filled a significant niche in the game that Maxis probably didn't know even existed. Your creations gave the game a sense of realism that didn't previously exist.

You are truly a legend to this community.

Take care. &apls

This is a very sad news indeed.  But all great things must come to an end sooner or later.

Simgoober has been uploading (or least as far as I can tell) from February 2004 to about the begining of this year.
I said to myself, "Self, what makes a person a Legend?"  So I decided to look up the meaning and this is part of what I found in the dictionary.

LEGEND-One that inspires legends or achieves legendary fame.
Today a legend can also be a person or achievement worthy of inspiring such a story.  Anyone or anything whose fame promises to be enduring, even if the renown is created more by the media than by oral tradition. Thus we speak of the legendary accomplishments of a major-league baseball star or legendary voice of a famous opera singer.

So does Simgoober fit this meaning?
I decided to do a little digging.

With 278 Uploaded BATs on the STEX at Simtropolis, he is the person with the most uploaded BATs and his views are at 4,566,212 and the downloads are at 2,206,849.  That's on average 16,425 views per BAT and 7,938 downloads on average per BAT.
Over the three years of producing 278 BATs at about 9 per month, this doesn't even include the ones you or I have never seen.  Can you imagine how many he really made.
His highest download is his BSC MEGA Props SG Vol 01 (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=15287&v=1)[LINKIE] at 95,263 views  and 70,458 downloads.  This is a prop pack, how ever, his most down loaded BAT is Embassy Suites Hotel (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=3180&v=1) [LINKIE] at  51,420 views  and 25,160 downloads.
These numbers absolutley incredible.

According to the meaning above, I believe this is more than enough to make him a legend!
These numbers will continue to grow for years to come and people will still be talking about him for the same amount of time.
His Legend will continue to grow.

Just because Simgoober may be "no longer doing anything SC4 related", doesnt mean that his name or his BATs won't live on until the last days of this game.

&apls &apls &apls &apls &apls

Robin   ()stsfd()

PS, all these stats were calculated by myself straight from Simtropolis.  I beleive all my calculations are correct.

@Robin: Those are some amazing numbers indeed, and if anyone deserves to retire from the BAT, it has to be SimGoober. Of course, there are many others who achieved great things, but the sheer number of models that SimGoober created ist most impressive. The "legend" title is very appropriate, I'd say. :)

I have been making a list of my downloads and what I have installed.  I have managed to list almost everything except SG's.  The thought of the sheer size of his folder on my PC daunts me, and I don't think I have everything of his. Just wondering if Simgoober's Santa Clara civic pack will be released on the LEX? For some reason, it's actually not available at ST, but can actually be found elsewhere (maybe CSC, I can't remember where I dl'ed it from).

He actually made a collection of lots with a common theme to them, it included a post office, fire station, city hall and courthouse. So, I was wondering, is that small collection in the master list to be released to the LEX?

EDIT: I have a copy of the relevant files for that collection just in case you don't have it; it's not in an install file and there isn't a readme included though.

"The Great and Mighty Goober has Spoken!"

LOL... Anyhow, I am not really what you would call active anymore, but I did throw a couple BATs together, and Barby is playing with them.  Been A while since I did anything, and the old modding skills got a bit rusty.  No plans to bring the BAT factory back out of mothballs, but a few teasers is all.
