Title: Residential Canals
Post by: Breeze on September 01, 2007, 01:26:57 PM
WIth incredible canals we have now from Jeronij , SG / Cal , Oppie why would we want more?  Cause "more" is never enough!! $%Grinno$%

The canals we have out now are more geared towards Comm. / Ind. zones, Jeronij's could be considered a a res one I suppose, but Im looking for something a bit different. Here's some links to some beautiful areas in Coral Gables I found

http://maps.google.com/maps?t=h&hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=25.688611,-80.25755&spn=0.005414,0.009978&z=17&om=1
http://maps.google.com/maps?t=h&hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=25.705378,-80.253638&spn=0.005414,0.009978&z=17&om=1

Diagonal lots would almost be a must for a res. area, you could have various types , some with short docks, some with tie-off piers, others with the classy yachts, and ofcourse some sort of road transition, basically different look, same type as all the others.   :D

Out of curiosity, how hard is it to make lots like these?

My bad Citynut, I havent personally tried your's yet but have seen all the pics and they all look great.  I started to mess around but there is no way in hell I could create something like your's or any of the others.

If you think  you would be up for that challenge that'd be awesome, I might not be able to help much on the making of them, but on any other ideas for them I'd be glad to help.   :)

I'm not from that area but I'd been wanting to make that for sometime now. Maybe you have some local pics iamgoingtoeatyou?   &idea

maybe you could sorta base it on the setup they have in dubai marina...

on the subject of canals, i really want someone to do another deep canal set, those arabian types are great but anyone who lives in chicago, will know what i mean.... raising the grid on an entire city, how mad is that....

I started playing around a bit.. This is the solution, it's nothing special yet. I'll see if I can work on it later on.

What do you think about this textur?

This might be pushing it... but maybe you can try to match it with the CAL canals and the Zero7 Sunken CAL Canals?

I mean, just the water texture? And then maybe a suitable transition between the three canals can be created?

It is looking great thus far, and I would like to see how this progresses!  &apls &apls

Keep up the good work!

I'm student, I ain't got no time to create another set of canals :D I could send the files to s.b. but unfortunatly I don't name the meshes, so it might be pretty hard to find the meshes you are searching for in the model  :D
I attached the Cals-water-version.

Ah, that is understandable. : ;D

I do like the version with CAL's water, it just looks so much better!

Maybe then just create end lots? So that it can be like an inland body of water? Or, just pray fervently that someone will take it from here...  $%Grinno$%  :satisfied:

i'd prefer the one with cal's water (it looks more real imo, the others were too plain)

If I may bring in a vote, the I would also suggest Cal's water. In my opinion its the best one available at the moment.

The canal pieces themselves are really taking shape already and this looks like to become an instant winner

Heres an ingame picture of the straight 1x1 piece. You see all the mistakes.

Looks pretty good!  Personally I still use SG's original... that would be my vote, but it might be doable, as Cal's is a modification of SG's (in other words, not too hard to switch back).
