... and the most others don't have that experience too. That's the problem. The BAT normaly flattens all the negative Y-vertexes and replaces the underground part with a ground rectangle textured by a fake-3D image that looks like if there is an underground. This texture is wrapped over the traffic and the trains would disappear. There is a way to avoid that but only a few people know how...

Could it not be possible to make a true 3D model for the station?(custom LOD?)
Title: Re: sunken rail station
Post by: GoaSkin on September 10, 2007, 11:33:47 AM
Explain a modeller how to render true 3D or custom lods. They have no idea.

It must be the same procedure like

- on the NDEX ramp
- the avenue underpasses
- the PEG subterranean mall
- the sunken GLR by NOB

A few people know what to do, including NOB and Jeronij. We should invite them to discuss on this thread. It is no problem if someone starts an unrendered GMAX file. The only problem is a special export.

If the station should handle the underground railway of the NAM, the rail track must have a depth of -10, then it matches. The tunnel entrances must be part of the model enhanced by an overwrapping tube that continues a few meters outside the LOT.

I believe Blahdy also knows how this elusive art works.

make it designed for a 15meter trench. that is the most common depth. works best with on slope pieces

This is, indeed, a very interesting idea. I hope there's someone out there that can implement it!

There was one made by NOB I think.... not overtrack though.

Just designed to hang over the edge. Still looked good though.

yes! that's it.
because the "really" working station is on rail 2(in the picture)

I think Swamper77 can be of some help with the custom lods.
Title: Re: sunken rail station
Post by: GoaSkin on September 11, 2007, 02:43:54 AM
flame1396: We are talking about a sunken station, not an elevated. The sunken rail uses -10, the elevated ones +15.5 as height.

i have no idea in technical but i think this bat may possible to make it  ;)

if you split it like..[leftstation] [middle rail with building on top] [right station].is this possible?
Title: Re: sunken rail station
Post by: jeronij on September 11, 2007, 06:27:25 AM
Such a working underground lot can be done. Only special LODs ( as mentioned) are necessary. I can make the LODs myself if someone has the model ( as I am doing with some BigDig Project ramps ;) ).

The biggest issues about this idea are two:

1st : This sort of models do create graphic glitches in the game sometimes. The terrain texture can be seen covering the underground part of the model. This can be solved changing the view to any other that normal and going back to normal view.
2nd. The lenght of the lot. 9 tiles which do not allow residential development near it is a bit too much.... the model should be as short as possible. A 1x width seems to be ok, but perhaps there will not be much space for the building. 2x would also be good size, and would allow double railroads sections.

Just my two cents  ;) . I hope this helps this interesting project to move on

I've noticed something about this: The new and improved marrast underpass lots dont suffer from this, I've never seen them affected by this bug...

I had been thinking of doing a station which connected to a NAM bridge, where the sims would get of the tracks onto the road and the buses.

Title: Re: sunken rail station

I'll hijack this theard.

Okay, the sunken railstation is designed for 15 metres deep "canyon" and lot size will be 3x6, but station is only only 3x5.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi201.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Faa149%2FUncleHoney%2Fsunkenrail2.jpg%3Ft%3D1189544120&hash=af4aa04eda2db625922f9e8dc1c6b1b95ad5cc7b)

It might look like a indoor arena but IMO flat roof would have been boring. Station's textures aren't final but "underground's" textures are. There will be some stuff in the plaza, like signs, benches and stuff and somekind of kiosk inside the hall and timetables. Also thinking some support structures to side  :-\

That looks great so far, Bengt! I like the "indoor arena" look! Can't wait to see more progress!

Bengt,

Are you going to use the same texture for the tracks that the recently released rail station does?

Great work, thats a BAT I was deeply missing. Another big step towards a more realistic Railway-System.
Hopefully, once the small version proffed to work, you can try some bigger stations, like e.g. the Central Station in Hamburg, Germany: http://www.larsbrueggemann.de/hoch_fotos/hamburg-hauptbahnhof.jpg

The Central Station in Hamburg looks awesome.  The main station down town Toronto (Union Station) is the same way.  The subway also goes under the rail which is under the building.  Incredible architecture, indeed.  I really hope someone can make this a reality.  This type of station would fit much better in a very busy Down town.

The Yonge-University-Spadina Subway Line (And to think, they might adding another word to that!) runs infront of the building, under Front Street. What runs under the rails is actually the 509 Harbourfront and 510 Spadina streetcar lines, while the passenger car lines are at grade in the back of the building under a very ugly iron shed. Although plans are in place to replace it a 80million dollar glass atrium type thing. And as for that bat - yep looks extremely nice! I wish it was a little deeper to match with the 15m hole digger piece but oh well.

Kitsune: It is for 15 metres sunken pieces as you guys first requested.

For those who are wanting Hamburg's Central Station: keep dreaming. I've no interest to make such a thing.

Thanks jeronij & Bengt.
I think it's working to pass through the station, but not complete.
Though I used costom LOD which was very tight, I couldn't place props in the LotEditor.
The last picture shows how trains are partly buried in the building.

Anyway, I really hope to see Bengt's finished station, because I like the arena style buildings too.  :)

Well, why not post "final update"

WHAT IS NEEDED:
Roofjunk or something like that
Railtexture. It needs to go like mine own rails. (white arrow)

WHAT COULD BE ADDED:
Better ground texture for street level
Something to street level (yellow area)
Lights to lampposts (red arrow)

WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE:

It's really really beautiful, glasses, night lighting, everything...

But I feel sorry for delaying to attach my station here. I've just finished all exams of the school.  ;D

You need NOB's japanese wall textures(Ftexture.dat) to show the grey cement wall.
Or, if you want to change walls to fit for your city, simply change it in the LotEditor.
Specs are pretty normal, 6x4 size, 5500 capacity, 169 plop cost, etc.
I hope you enjoy it.

flame1396: We are talking about a sunken station, not an elevated. The sunken rail uses -10, the elevated ones +15.5 as height.

Many people use the standard 15 meter deep hole digger in order to have NAM on-slope pieces go over the trench without sloping. So the station being 15 meters deep would get it the most users.

I use your station.. works fine.. I think I'd suggest a bit above 5000 capacity .. maybe about 12500.. I don't know if there are any standards for it, but this would be a major station just below the really GIANT lots (which seem to have capacity of about 40000 as I remember) for city stations..

My station is on hiatus, because I have no rail textures.

WoW! What a fantastic job, Tadasu!!
It's really really beautiful, glasses, night lighting, everything...
and also Krio's work makes me expected a lot. very awesome night lighting.

But I feel sorry for delaying to attach my station here. I've just finished all exams of the school.  ;D
Here, while you waiting for those great stations, just try to use my work.

Big up! Great work. What are those concrete walls there?

Those are (as mentioned in the stuff you quoted) the NOB walls. Here's a pic of it in use:
