I've been "flipping" a city tile (destroying the old city layout, then laying down a new one). I have experienced crashes. I had a really large Demolish tool area that was 160,000 simoleons to get rid of. I dragged it all out, then it froze. A second time, I was working with the city while it had odd police and garbage issues. It froze then, too.
Is this a city tile issue, a custom content issue, or a CPU issue? Notably, SC4's memory use dropped after the second one from a peak of 700000K to 70000K (one-tenth of the memory it was using).
I may just do another city tile that is blank.
I think you might be exerting your system or even the game. Remember, it's not as young as it used to be. ;)

Huh? Exerting my system? It's an XP from 2003. 1GB of memory, but it used to be 512 up until about February of this year.
i also have 1 gig of memory and experience a similar situation, so it is best to demolish an area at a time. yes, it is possible to demolish more than one building at one time, but the demolition effects for demolisihng a whol city with the bulldoze tool drains the memories.
interesting... i had mu machine freeze up last night as well..
i was just laying down some commercial zones and it stopped mid-mouse movement.... and then stayed there. i went away, grabbed a drink (thinking it was lag or something) but when i returned it hadn't moved.
I tried to exit the game after saving, but i couldn't even return to windows so had to hit the power off button.
I know this isn't the same as demolishing a bunch of buildings, but could this be linked??
