Title: Serkanner showcase
Post by: Serkanner on September 24, 2007, 11:46:45 AM
With the release of the CAM everybodies desire to start lotting has increased tenfold ... and so did mine. I have however not specifically worked on a lot that will grow when you have the CAM is installed.

I like to show you something I have made to fit in with Simgoober's canal pieces, namely a recycling center. I am using the graet props by Simgoober, Pegasus, Jestarr and SFBT. I wanted to use railroads to "transport" the to-be-recycled stuff and of course need to use North Country Dude's wonderful texture pack.

With the release of a few different canal type I can now work on the creation of some extra variants of the same lot. Here are a few previews of the upcoming lot.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv75%2FNicolaiS%2FSC4%2FRecycling_v7_day.jpg&hash=e24cb55d34d3e6edf3e862495dad5b0b5a19e841)

Expect the first lot on the LEX soon.

I like the look of that - it's a very nice piece of lot-building.  I predict a slight problem with the CAL canals - namely that the lack of reflection is going to look a bit odd.

Great work Serkanner.

Could you tell me, those threes at the road side, in which prop pack do I find them ?

The willow tree is part of SG mega pack, and the darker gree tree is part of the SFBT essentials.

It looks like this is made for SG's original pack not the remake - although he probably could do one frome the new set if he chose to

Good stuff.

I like the base texture used on that one, but maybe a few more small shrubs and such, that's all I could suggest.

It's good to see more people making use of the Lot Editor. BATters are plenty, but us lotters are in short supply.  ;)

I'll be looking forward to more.

The birch tree on the right is also from the SFBT Essentials. :)

Anyway, this is looking great! I guess a version for the reworked canals can be done, it's simply a matter of changing the props (aren't the basic props auto-updating anyway if you install Cal's reworked version?). I figure that the dependency list will be quite long, but I'm sure most people have the majority of dependencies installed already.

Thank you everybody for the suggestions and compliments  :)

Since my last post here I have been working on the lot and included the suggestions made here and elsewhere. I think this lot is as good as I can get it. Therefore I show you some screenshots of the final version which will be released to the LEX in a day or two ( depending on test results ).

Well ... nothing much to say anymore but to show you how it turned out.

Oh, I almost forget to tell that our master of industry jestarr has made some canal barges with garbage in it and has been very kind to allow me to use them on this lot ... and they are timed as well, which means sometimes you see it at the dock, but sometimes you don't.

Here are the shots:

This is a beautiful lot (as beautiful as trash can get :D ), and it adds so much realism to the game. Apparently, the owner makes quite some money with his trashy business, otherwise, I couldn't explain the expensive-looking Corvette that is parked next to the shed. ;)

That looks great.  I love lots like these.  The dirtier the better.  And the corvette, nice touch.  Maybe it's the Mafia..... 8)

The blue truck is a timed prop from Simgoober. he has used it for the Hardun Coal Powerplant for instance. I lik this one so much I just had to use it.

The Corvette is part of a prop family and I just might have picked a rather high wealth one ... but as we all know garbage is a dirty business  :P

A very interesting and well constructed lot. Useful for my industrial areas. Any chance of it being released with CAL's remastered SG models instead however?

A few minutes ago I have "uploaded" a file to the exchange that is a bit different from what you usually expect from an upload.

After having seen how Badsim has made a "viewable"prop pack by plopping all the props from one pack on a lot I agreed how useful that is for a lot maker. Many times I know a certain prop exists, but have no idea where to find it.

Some time ago I started making these lots as well. I took one prop pack and plopped most, if not all, props on a lot. I then took a screen shot of the lot in the game. I ended up with a nice bunch of pictures from a number of prop packs. I can use those as reference when I want to "easily" find a certain prop.

It occurred to me that if I find it useful, other lot makers might also find it useful. That is why I created a special Photobucket account to upload these pictures. Without using any of the bandwidth from Devotion you can get those pictures now as well.

An example:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi216.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fcc75%2FBSC_SeeThemOl%2FBSC%2520MEGA%2520Prop%2520Packs%2FBSCMEGAPropsKWKvol01.jpg&hash=4c18256ab904ab11874513d1770ebccdd1e26e24)

At the moment I am writing this post I have uploaded 19 completed prop packs ... all BSC MEGA Packs. The coming weeks, perhaps even months, I will continue to upload more and more pictures of many more prop packs. I hope the result will be that all prop packs available to the community will have a picture in the album.

One remark. Some packs contain numerous variants of the same prop. I have chosen to not plop them all on a lot but to make a good representation of those props. I feel that every picture at the moment gives a good idea about the contents of every prop pack.

The upload to the LEX contains a read me file in an installer. If you run the installer the read me will be installed to a similar type folder as all other BSC read-me's. That way you will always have the link to the album in your simcity folder.

Anybody who would like to provide help and make additional pictures for the album send me a PM and we will get it organized.

Last ... the link of course:

BSC SeeThemOl Photobucket Album (http://s216.photobucket.com/albums/cc75/BSC_SeeThemOl/)

And a link to the LEX read_me file: BSC SeeThemOl Read_Me File on the LEX (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1269)
have fun!

You know I was always a bit annoyed when there was a testlot added with a megapack, it was just one more lot to remove from the plug-in folder. I never actually thought they could be useful. Shame on me!

With the many props I have in my folders now it's indeed hard to find the right thing. The pics you posted will become real handy I'm sure!

This is great... but I'm confused... where are the pic's of the 19 packs?  I've followed the photobucket link, but the only pic there is the pic of the detective...  I even read the read-me... is this just something on the way?

The main page contains the "SeethemOl" picture with Shirley Holmes welcoming you. When you have a closer look you find a header named "sub albums" There you find the current uploaded pictures. I have chosen a sub folder structure to be able to  "organize" the multiple uploaders into categories.

Have a look at the picture ... where the yellow oval shape is there you find the current sub_album. Soon there will be more sub_albums added.

Hi Serkanner ,

More I'm thinking about this project , more I love it . With the come out soon ( soon being an undetermined time .... :D ) of Wou's X-Tool , this could be a bottom line as well to promote LotEditing . So I'm ready to spend full time with you on this as long as necessary . Diggis' list could be done with a raisonnable time measurement  of a month .... and I've got another suggestion ; another difficulty is to find these props in the ocean of props listed under LE , as their names (by batches ) aren't always obvious .
An example with props from Tag-One props pack ; they can be found with names beginning by RNP_BSC_T1_propv1_**** , so I think that it would be great to give this information too , in a small window on pictures .

Let me know what you think about this . ;)

This is a fantastic idea and I wander why no one thought of this sooner.  It will be so helpful and I agree with Badsim, the names would be nice to be included.  I know this would help me.  ;)  If you think there is anything I could help you with, don't hesitate to ask.

Help is appreciated of course. One thing though is that I have set no time limit for myself. I do a lot of behind the scene things for BSC and my spare time is limited ... like everybody elses.

The process I work with is plain and simple:

last comment for now. I am working on the BSC MEGA PAcks and want to finish these myself. Feel free to make pictures of the content of other packs and please post the names of the packs here in the topic. For those in need for my email ... send me a PM for it.

It has been a while, but I have been busy with other things then SC4 lately.

Regarding the prop packs I can comment that i will pick it up somewhere the coming week. Badsim: thank you very much for offering your help, its highly appreciated.

Also a big thank you to Filasimo ( Ryan ) who I might have scared away with a pm in which I was a bit too blunt positioning my opinion. My apologies Ryan ... I do appreciate your help if you are still willing. Just read my last post and Badsim's post to see what needs to be done. I will contact you by PM too somewhere the coming week.

One thing I would like to show though is the thing I have been working on when I did have some SC4 time available.

This is a teaser of a model by Lars and the lot by myself:
