Welcome to SC4D, irishk9!

Could you please post your Operating System, CPU, Memory, and Video Card for us? There are a multitude of reasons for a CTD, as they're known around here.

With some more information I'm sure someone will be able help you out.

Cheers,
Kevin

Also a description of your plugins folder would help ( size, number od folders and files and such).
----
And a detailed description of the crash process.... I mean, can you say:" The game chrashes when I make this or that" ?¿ or "the game crashes after I installed this or that mod/lot" ?¿
This would also help to understand the problem and suggest a solution  ;)

can the size of the plugin folder make the game go slow, after 10 or 15 minutes of playing the game? if yes what can be done about it. &idea

My os is windows xp,cpu is amd64x2 dual,2g ram & graphics card is nvidia geforce 7950gx2.

My plugin folder is 250mb- ive downloaded quiet a fiew new buildings from Simtropolis.com.
It crashes for no apparent reason during play and just goes to the desktop!

Try and remove any newer Downloads that you gotten from simtropolis.... That might be the only way to track down the bugg.... What i mean is to go and take out all downloads that you got before you noticed the crashing to desktop...

Say it was Saturday that your game last ran perfectly and you DL'ed some stuff Saturday night and played Sunday when this happened to you....

One thing i do recommend for you is to start using folders by download date IE Monday Oct 22 and soo on or you can do numerical IE 10_22_07.... that will help you keep track of plugins a little bit better and plus the other side effect is if you have any problems IE CTD's then you can go and remove that days folder....

I hope this helps out - pat

You could try the AMD Dual Core Optimizer. (http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_13118,00.html) <link

You can also check if your hard disk needs defragmentation.... if the files are too sparsed in a high capacity HD, could cause the game to crash when windows tries to allocate all the files in memory....just a harmless idea  ;D

I haven't seen a crash to desktop since I started using DatPacker.  Prior to using this tool, I experienced frequent crashes esepcially when zooming in or out.

Please note that nothing will fix problems with TE lots.  If you are using puzzle pieces, you have to be careful not to hover them over a TE lot or the game will crash.  That one is a know problem with no fix available.  I think DatPacker will help with everything else - and as an added bonus it makes the game load and run much faster.

I had the same problem, usually when zooming in or out. This is what has made it possible to play the game crash-free.

If you are running a dual core processor:

1. When the game first starts, bring up the Windows Task Manager (ctr/alt/del-ONCE!).
2. Click on the Processes tab and select the simcity line.
3. Right click and choose "Set Priority"; click High.
4. Right click again and choose "Set Affinity"; uncheck CPU 1.
5. Close the Task Manager.

This should help. Good luck.
