Title: Modifying lots with a "transparent" base texture
Post by: CabraBuitre on January 28, 2007, 02:49:18 PM
I have a questions about lots created with "transparent" (in other words, NO...) base textures.  For example, I have been looking at using Jeronij's new rural walls (that have a transparent base texture) and modifying them slightly so they match the style that I currently have in my CJ, using alot of SG's floral props instead of regular trees, but when I go to save, it says that I need to place a base texture.

I figure that other modding tools need to be used that I'm not very familiar with... but is there an easy solution for this situation, short of just adding a base texture to the lots?

You can add a texture to save the lot, and once saved follow this tutorial (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=23.0) to remove the texture  ;D You dont really need advanced skills to do that  $%Grinno$%

Although don't make the same mistake I did and use overlay textures with transparent base textures, it causes the "water texture bug".

is that the same bug that makes transparent bases black colored?

Thanks again Jeronij, just tried this out and it works great, and it's really easy to use!!!

One general question...  Does this work for growable lots the same way it does for plopable?  The lots in particular that I'm looking at are found here:  http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?page=1&keyword=Robledo&type=all#

I love these houses but I've never liked the base textures, so I was thinking about swapping out the entire set with transparent textures.

I never tried, but why not ?¿

Callagrafx made a very good apointment  . Dont use overlay textures wihtout base textures. Graphic glitches may occur if you do that  $%Grinno$%

Here's a very quick way to achieve transparent base textures.  I'm assuming that you have knowledge of how to use the Lot Editor and Ilive's Reader.

Sarungman ... it really doesn't hurt doing some searching yourself. There is a large tutorial section here on the forum. Have a look here:

Modding Textures Tutorials (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?board=52.0)

Geoff ... many thanks for that excellent way of explaing the modding part of transparent base textures. May I suggest it be "moved" to the tutorial section?

oh geoffhaw, many thanks to you.... i'm sorry for taking your time to do this for me... ah, i mean for us........ it's very useful...jeronij and Serkanner, too, thank you very much.......

i realize that i do a rudeness again (maybe?). quote from my post before:  "now i need that tutorial to complete my lot project" i think that statement is nearly a demanding request, right??? sorry for that.....

note : i dont know if there is a tutorial (removing base texture) in Modding Tutorial section, and that doesnt mean i'm lazy to do searching,.... In fact, Because there are a lot of tutorials in this forum, it makes me "fast thinking" if "removing base texture tutorial" has a relationship with LE work, not Modding....  :), yah that's why i've missed that in modding section..... :)

You are somehow right sarungman, but I decided to put it in the Modding section because you require the use of Reader to make it work  ;)
