Title: Is this building not on the ground plane?
Post by: City Builder on January 20, 2008, 05:12:53 PM
Hi, Im just checking out how my work in progress lot will look in the game so far and trying to put it on a lot.  I've placed a tree but it appears that the tree is like under the building instead of infront of it.  Is this the case, or is this just the way that the lot editor works?

That's just the way LE works. You can't have props on your building's area, or else they disappear. If you want a tree there, you'd have to make one yourself. Great looking building though. It doesn't matter the shape of the building, the LE makes all buildings squares based on their dimensions. I hope I could help.

To avoid that you must make custom LODs

First off thanks for the replies.

I guess by custom LOD's you would mean in a building of this shapes case, then instead of what the game does and draw out one giant box to surround the entire building one one box, I'd have to create them in the same shape (L shape)  of the building if I wanted to be able to place things in the corner of the L.  If that's right, I don't think it's really worth the effort for this building.

Exactly what I'm meaning. It is not that much of an effort, but if it really isn't necessary, don't bother then. Plus, you'll save more game resources as complex LODs take more than a simple box.

May not seem like it's worth the effort, but it could be a good place to learn something, so that you're ready to do it as your batting improves.
