Post by: kwakelaar on February 07, 2007, 04:33:08 PM
I am working on some older European buildings for medium wealth CS. The idea was to make something that would look romanesque in style but these turned out to be of a later date and style.
Still some work to be done on these, and I am planning to make 4 more buildings to the set.

I love these, especially the way the roofs go "against the grain"...gives them character and adds depth to the game.  The only thing that I would change is the texture nightlighting in favour of actual lighting, but that's my personal preference...I spend far too long nightlighting my BATs  :(

People, I am quite amazed by all your responses, I am not used to getting this much attention &blush

Glenni, Bryggen is not such a strange association, I have been thinking if I should try some of the buildings there.
Bat and Metasmurf thanks, and the pictures have been updated.
Cabrabuitre, very nice to see you here too.
Schulmanator and Fledder200 thanks for your comments
Sebes you are too kind and I am glad you have found your way to SC4D

Callagrafx, I prefer to use the nightwindows for most of my buildings when there is not much to see on the inside. The shopwindows on the groundfloor are however transparent and you should be able to see the different goods for sale. I don't care much for the nightlights and if it was just for me all my bats would be dark at night. I never use nightview in the game thus I will try to keep it as simple as possible. Though some of the most spectacular images of buildings (those from other batters that is) comes from the nightview, so I can understand that you spend a lot of time on making them.
Indeed there are not many of these kind of w2w buildings in the game yet.

Barby, Serkanner and Cali thanks for commenting
Gaston, thanks for stopping by and I am working on a corner building now.

Thanks for updating those pics!  The buildings look lovely!
As for the lights, sometimes, you just have to keep them simple; that way, some of the more "special" buildings (landmarks, etc) will stand out more when set up among their less exceptionally lit, but still well done bretheren.

So, got an ETA on these?  I have a few ideas of where to place em in my region.  Keep up the great work, and I hope to see an update soon!

Serkanner will be making the lots for these bats and do any modding that he thinks is necassary.
He had started with making a lot for the Cafe Sobel, and from that came the idea to make some changes to the building. I will also do some props for a courtyard next to it.
Here is the almost finished BAT.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg359.imageshack.us%2Fimg359%2F6967%2Fbierhof2yn5.jpg&hash=7f4a68fb6c5e8f6fd28bd3bb5d38c7962629b7e4)

Mattb, thanks a lot you really are too generous.

DuskTrooper, thanks for your comment. No release date set for these yet. I saw you had started with some European looking cities with the buildings from Xannepan, very nice. Hopefully we can get these out soon enough for you to make use of them.

Schulmanator, I have had a look at your CJ and I really enjoy when someone else can use my bats.

Greenbelt, I think we maybe have a bit the same idea about what we like and he has shared quite readily some of his fantastic textures.

Here is an update on how things are going with these growables, the lots are not the final ones and also some of the models needs more work, mostly with the LODs and the nightlights.

I was wondering if you could help me. I have ben trying and trying to get your awesome new W2W lots to build in my cities. They just won't. I stayed up till 0215 this morning in a Simcityfest to try and coax something. Nothing! Would you consider releasing these as ploppables? My towns need these great lots and I will continue to have sleepless nights in front of the screen till they appear!

Thanks! You are awesome!!  ;D ;D ;D

In first Schulmanator, escuses me for my bad english :D &ops
These shares are CS$$4 - also it's necessary to have at least 1114 residents for a luck of 1% of buildings of the floor 4. They as only push in the European buildings, you must have a a big commercial demande,
-choise european batiments
-lower taxes for the trade
-put of parks or places giving an attractive effect
-When they come, select batiment to classed
I was made that, and i have a lot of it
I hope that help you, perheaps ;), somebody know another thing ::)

Oh yeah. Here's the radical way of doing it  ;D

Get this mod, http://host.simvision.net/SC4ExtraCheats.zip put it in directly in your My Documents\Sim City 4\Plugins directory. Don't put into a sub-folder because then it wont work

Next, get into the game, press ctrl+x , then rightclick, select buildingplop and press enter. Now a box will appear

Then scroll down the list to the letter K. There you'll find several lots named KWK. It shoud look like this

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg469.imageshack.us%2Fimg469%2F1281%2F13419371bk2.jpg&hash=69de3e97e7f266399bf932b2e9fb401b4a828906)

When you've selected the lot you want to plop, press the X on the box to close it down, now another box should appear, like this

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg511.imageshack.us%2Fimg511%2F2%2F46920808yn0.jpg&hash=1abefe7f5ad58eb0a06cc21474b6a201595efdf6)

Then, close that box and you will be able to plop the lot, no pre-zoning nessecary

This might seem complicated but actually it's ALOT faster then waiting for the right building to grow. It should take like 5 minutes to get an area covered with kwk's buildings.

-liste s'ouvre
-clique LotPop (Pas AllPop atention)

I have started on a new project. It will be a high wealth residential in a w2w setting to start with, later I will probably make another version for a more rural setting.
The original is called Stechinelli Haus in the German city of Celle. It is a late 18th century building built for , I belive a merchant family. I am not making an exact replica just using it for inspiration.

This is what I have got so far.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg401.imageshack.us%2Fimg401%2F1417%2Fstechinellihaus1no3.jpg&hash=41e3ff45dc44e873dd399f2dcb076265fa784e26)

Uhhh, I love this! Very good choice of a building

Will be a most welcome addition to my cities   :)

EDIT1: BTW, indeed it looks very much like a merchant family's house of that era; also the gate on the right - to a backyard maybe - indicates this as behind could have been some stabling and/or some storage room as well.

EDIT2: What I also very much like (and indicates that the former owner must have been at least of quite high wealth) is its palace-like look. In german we have an extra word for it: Immediatbau. Unfortuatly I'm not aware of any translations of it  :(
Such Immediatbauten (plural) were espacially quite common in the late 18th century Berlin, when Friedrich II. planned his Forum Fridericianum (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forum_Fridericianum) and Unter den Linden.

Yes, good thought, though most the buildings there had lighter and brighter colours if I remember correctly ... and most were rather of baroque or at least a more decorated classicism style while this house has a very clean facace (which I like very very much)... oh... and it wasn't the german, but the prussian king... small but important difference  $%Grinno$%

Wonderful progress there, my friend &apls

I've been checking my architecture lexicon, here a translation of what it says about Immediatbauten:
-Residental buildings for gentry, public servants, victualers and soldiers that were build in context to the absolutistic city plannings in the 17th and 18th century. They were paid by the "ruler"(in Berlin's case the Prussian King) and built to complete the uniform planned city expansions of the residence cities. Usually rented out.
Though, I still can't find an english expression for it &mmm

It seems that the Baroque theme suits you fine Kwakelaar. :)

This version of the building is very well done. The compositon of the main building and the way they coincide with the smallere buildings I guess couchhouse and orangerie/wintergarden (?) are just great. the only thing I would change myself on the models is the front steps of the chateau. they are broad enough, but I would make them a bit deeper. they are a bit narrow now compared to the length in my opinion. But otherwise it is a super looking set of buildings.

Are you planning to make more lovely versions?

take care,

Hubert.

Thanks for your kind replies.
Bengt, those fences are from Debussyman as you might understand (or maybe not) from his comment. And they are great fences indeed.
Strechnitz, good suggestion, is on my to do list now.

Here is the third version of this building, so far only the main building is nearing completion. I will make this for a rural setting.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg251.imageshack.us%2Fimg251%2F4489%2Fstechinellihaus8cx8.jpg&hash=b163bcda82e0e453afcb4ee2660f3760d1c77265)

Oh yeah baby, keep'em coming :P &apls

They keep getting better and better (and bigger?).
Again this version is looking very good. an ideal baroque country seat of some baron or other. the extra floor adds a great deal of character and grandeur.

And as with the 2 previous versions, I can't wait to put my hands on these once you release them. :) perhaps a little  round/eight sided gardenpavillion with similar stuco and a dome with similar rooftiles would be a nice addition to this very elegant chateau.

great job.

Strechnitz.

Looking good, however I like the second to last version better than the last one, but that´s just my oppinion.
Perhaps a version with the steps from the last version combined with the front from the blackroofed version could look good?
It´s looking good either way, but the blackroofed version looks better in my taste.
It feels like this complex could be useful as mayor residence as well.

This is a new palace that I have started working on. Again I will make some farm buildings to go with the main house.

The previous bats are now all on the LEX. The prop pack contains different pieces for those of you who would like to make another version of either the Carolath or the Kolhof palace.

Adept2Rock I like your enthusiasm :D
Swesim, thanks for your suggestions, but the models are finished now and I will not change them any more. And I agree, I like the black roofed version the most myself as well.
Dusktrooper, gerrymander?
Strechnitz, I think there are enough pieces in the prop pack so you can make something to your own liking. Garden pavillion... might try that for another palace.

You know that ever since your first upload, you are my favorite puzzlepiece maker ;) And I have taken your suggestion at heart and have made a few baroque palaces of my own. Including an enormous one which I'll show you in a PM. because I don't want the general public to know it...yet.

the lots and gardens still need some finetuning but these pics give you a good idea of how happy I am withyour wonderfull new work :)

These two represent Strasslov palace. the summer residence of (your future sugaraunty?) Lady Ottoline von Strasslomirov.  (16x10 tiles) ;D

And these three are a palace that as yet has no distinct name or use apart from being a great fun to assemble with your palace pieces.

BTW the floral scrolls made by D66 are great to. they are wonderfull to assemble into complex knot patterns for the gardens.

Strechnitz, you have really out done yourself with these combinations, quite a few there I would never have come up with myself, and indeed for floral arrangements D66 is the best.
There will be more to come by the way.

Vester, that is a very nice building, could be something to use for a city palace. Thanks for posting the pictures.

And at the end of the Sunday the building is almost finished.

Amazing, it would work in both worlds, rural and urban.  A wonderful companion to the (hopefully ongoing?) neoclassical spree. Best of best of luck on all of your lots.
