Haljackey: Yes it's functional. All residential bats are growables. Thanks!

RippleJet: Haha yeah I see the point. I've made a few changes in that area, concerning the entangled road system :P

mightygoose: Nope, it's a mod made by jeronij, you can get it here (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=36). I'm using the JRJ SidewalksV3_LowWealth_allwealths.dat file.

Vario80: As real as sc4 can get :P

N1_2888: Grus Gott. Yeah I might enter the competition once I get around to it :P

Pat: Thanks!

thundercrack83: Thank you :)

dragonshardz: Cheers.

caspervg: Thanks!

bat: Danke schön

Glenni: Tack :)

warconstruct: Merci!

Simpson: Thanks :)

Krio: Because your bats arent in any of the pictures ? :P Don't worry, I've used your stuff as well :)

star.torturer: Thanks alot!

bigberta: Tack så mycket :)
Title: Re: Smurf's SC4 Experimenting
Post by: metasmurf on February 26, 2008, 04:30:13 AM
Time for another update. Caution: semi tech-shots ahead :P

What to do: Let's fix up this area and make it functional, so commuters can access their workplace on the other side of the bridge.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg162.imageshack.us%2Fimg162%2F7626%2F01iq8.jpg&hash=4da4d8a89e177b1d636698255a4387e460a7075f)

Now, as far as I know, subway is the only transit network that can give working access under bridges. Henceforth, let's build a subway line underneath the bridge, using custom lots so we can sort of hide the subway look and give it a more pedestrian street look.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg108.imageshack.us%2Fimg108%2F5626%2F02pv8.jpg&hash=6d13317bfae0a6a7037ef6004c32f4a262a0d2e1)

As you may notice, the subway lots blend in with the nam pedmal. I also used the lot resizing technique (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=68.0) to cover up the blank space underneath the bridge

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg261.imageshack.us%2Fimg261%2F4012%2F03sc5.jpg&hash=f01b623645d04dbd633aaa8b6029accfc96c92f1)

So, as you can see, it works :) People are using subway to reach their jobs on the other side of the bridge

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg78.imageshack.us%2Fimg78%2F4467%2F04qy0.jpg&hash=f58d73d52258262c6fae0643cc9107ea599c3099)

Also included a church  ()stsfd()

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg256.imageshack.us%2Fimg256%2F4503%2F05vg0.jpg&hash=fa243e8173b7f9732806465202958c07b6b600e0)

Well, too "plopped" and "lifeless". I don't like those towers next to Parisian buildings which seems to be plopped. Your lotting is good, but try to see what Badsim and Yoman have done ;)

wouanagaine: Thanks man :)
Krio: All residential buildings have grown. 95% of the commercial buildings are plopped. When it comes to the lotting, I simply don't have the time to make as detailed lots as Badsim and Yoman do. It's a pity, but what can you do.
thundercrack83: Thank you my friend :)

As usual, a fantastic update. ;)

Question: Where did you get the building, that is visible as part of the left 4x4 block situated in this (http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/2452/03vl9.jpg) picture?

Great update, I really like the first picture.  When I first had seen that library, I thought it was kind of funny looking, but after seeing it used in so many different MD's, it has begun to grow on me.  A very modern looking building for sure no matter how unrealistic it may look.
I like the amount of parking you use, very realistic looking.  And I love the use of Nob's GLR peices.
As I already said, the first pic is great.

Just a quick reply.

You can get them here http://hide-inoki.com/~nob/lot_station.htm
Be sure to read the readme file. The pathing is a bit screwed up due to trains jumping over to the left side when entering the slope piece, but that's just a cosmetic flaw.

No time for replies, sorry  :( Anyway, thanks for your comments!

I've been playing around with prop groups/families lately, and thanks to Ripplejet I was able to make prop groups with Erdmoebel's Berlin w2ws. Even though the textures arent perfect, they're good considering the fact that they were released back in 2004.

This is how it looks like in LE

I added two maxis storefront prop families for variation

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg156.imageshack.us%2Fimg156%2F1181%2F02us7.jpg&hash=dd3f882e6bfe2d4dd38d741d6a9b93622d156a51)

That is a very intersting solution, I like it.

Actually, I am quite the fan of those old houses myself, but I think they look better when mixed up with some more modern BAT:s. The fronts of the buildings are excellent, but the rooftops look a bit, well... "flat" when many of the are put together.

I must say I really enjoyed the city overview, too. Perhaps it's time for a region shot next? ;D

The building you used (Odd's Oranienburger Villa) is one of my favourites. Is it already from 2004? Man, time flies - that means my own city is already 4 years old...   I like the setting that you created with it, although I prefer to make entire blocks of these, without the parking streets in between. The elevated S-bahn next to blocks gives is at a very realistic touch again! Also the night shot is very well made my friend.

And the down town overview also makes want to see a smurfing region shot. ;)

(he - this will kick you right into the bestsellers after the month is over...)
