Welcome to SC4D, callbat. Glad you decided to start an MD here. :)

I see that you have many of the elements that make for an interesting city. The BATS you've chosen have a European flair, and your transport system looks interesting from what I can see.

Hope to see the Kingdom of Kent grow and prosper

Until next time...

Hello Callbat,

You're off to a great start. I really enjoy English MD's, the tight development of most of the country (especially the South of England) amazes me.

I'm looking forward to the next update.

Cheers,
Kevin

The Kingdom of Kent is a well developed island nation that has always been at the peak of industralisation and modernisation. It ruled 1/3 of the known world at one time and had one of the largest and most well trained armies and navies. Today it remains a world power, but much less than before.

These pictures are from the capital city, Kent City.
More pictures from around the kingdom will appear as soon as I get started on those areas :)

Cathedral of St. Martin in The Fields:

I like the bats you've chosen to use, callbat - gives the city a real European flair. And that's an interesting intersection in the third pic titled "Marble Arch." Does it perform well in game?

Hope you'll tell us a bit more about Kent City - population, age, etc. - and maybe show an overview in the next update.

Until next time...

Good update, callbat. You certainly have managed to create a wide variety of environs - makes the city much more interesting!

I love the Parliament building and cathedral - those are some beautiful bats - and I see you found the mowed grass textures. ;) Over time, I'm learning how different European cities are from what I'm used to seeing here in the southern U.S.A., and I really like that look.

I hope to see much more of this well-crafted MD in the weeks and months to come.

Until next time...

Hi Callbat,

I liked what you did with your last MD, England and Kent is looking good as well.  Interesting that your first picture of English buildings has a church with a Dutch flag ;)

The Marble Arch junction looks very similar to the real Marble Arch at the end of Oxford Street, all you need is an Odeon cinema on the corner and I'd have thought it was the real thing.

I like your London Underground entrances - can I ask you where you got those please.

Loved the terraced housing you'd produced - very nice.  I think that parts of your Kent and my West End are quite similar, maybe scope for a twin town somewhere along the line :)

Good luck with Kent, I'll be back to see developments.

Paul

Hello everyone, because of some music work I have to attend to and me wanting to finish the region before I show it again, Kent is on a bit of a pause. Until then, a teaser and replies.

Replies, lovelly replies!

Pat: Thanks! Well I hope to see you from time to time mate!
Simpson: Thanks and its on Simtropolis, the name is "European Sidewalk Mod" or something of the sort just search it up on the STEX.
thundercrack83: Thanks! Although didn't you find them hard to read at all?
woodb3kmaster: Yup I'm going specifically for a London feel, thanks!
bat: Thank you!
Jmouse: Thanks for your insightful commentary! Although I find that going to a place provides a much better experience than reading or researching about it. I learned lots of things when I came to the Southern U.S. ;D
warconstruct: Thank you!
bat: Thank you bat!
paroch: Haha yes well the Dutch flag is BATted on so can't do anything there  $%Grinno$% I tried to find a suitable building to go on that corner but I could not....the entrances are availible on the STEX, just search "London Underground". A twin town sounds interesting to me! I hope to see you here later on. Thanks!

Another nice photo, callbat.

You are so right about seeing the world first hand. Africa was nothing like we expected despite months of poking around the Internet. Now we're hoping to visit London in the next two or three years, and if things work out, I will get to see some of the sights I now see only in the game! :D

Best wishes for success in your musical ventures, but I hope to see you back with a nice big update soon!

Nice photos, callbat. You have used some really interesting BATs. I especially like the North Bank Market in the second pic, and the reddish building on the right in the first reminds me of the buildings I saw while growing up in Houston.

I like the way you've labeled everything in the last photo, too. I am curious about the zig zag on the left side, though - I can't figure out what it is or howit fits into the overall picture.

Calbat, once again I notice and appreciate your selection of BATs. But eel and pie!? Sounds like a big plate full of culture shock to me! :D

I love that BAT to the left and behind the arch in photo 2, and I like the water mod you're using - which one is it? The bridge looks great, too, and now that I see the river and seawalls, the "zigzag" makes sense. In that last update, it looked kind of like a sidewalk, but I knew that couldn't be right.

The park looks nice, albeit not exactly what I'm used to seeing, and the Park Corner is a unique idea. Then the last photo provides a good reference so I won't get lost when I visit the Kingdom of Kent! ;) BTW, the building in the right center of the last photo with the first-story arches - is it available anywere?

Until next time...
Joan

I haven't been in Britain and know it therefore only from screen, cinema and books but your MD comes close to the picture in my mind. I especially like the way you photoshopped your pics, enough to stress the atmosphere, not too much to disturb the content.

I just the diagonal piece at that avenue bridge - it makes me feeling that there is something missing there ...  &Thk/( Maybe with some terraforming try and error you might find a better solution there ...

Take care and don't forget to make backups!

Bernhard

Everyone, I have some bad news, I've lost my entire region along with all of my work. Yes I know, a tragedy indeed.
and what's worse is I start teaching again next week and I won't have as much time to work on updates &mmm. So I hope you enjoy these pics that I took before I lost everything. I hope to have another update ASAP.

Jmouse: Haha yes we have a bit of a reputation for bad food but I belive we're doing a decent job of getting rid of it. The water mod is by PEG and available on ST. He has a selection of water mods so I suggest you browse his works and choose one that suits your fancy. The building with the arches on the first storey is "Ottakers Bookstore" by ILL_Tonkso also to be found on the stex. Thanks again for your wonderful comment
Nardo69: Thank you, I also love trains  ;) I too was pleased with the picture effect and would you belive I cam upon it by pure accident? I would take into account what you said about the diagonal embankment at the bridge but all is lost now, so maybe when I begin city-building once more I'll take that into account. Thanks!
thundercrack83:Thank you very much
amapper: Thanks I do aim for a realistic feel!

What a pity!!   :'(

I really liked your work ...

Unfortunately you know why I am always reminding people to make backups - I used my backups more than once, without backups I wouldn't have been able to do my CJ/MD for now almost three years ... and you know, DVDs are not that expensive anymore ... ;)

Nice area around the station! I like the situation at the column and the avenue that is starting there. It really makes me feel sad that it is gone ...

Take care and don't forget to make regular backups on your next MD region!  ;)

Oh no, not Kent!  &mmm I'm going to miss your great updates and beautiful pictures. Hope you'll be able to re-create the city using the same BATs you have now.

Love the last photo with the station, and overall just enjoy looking at all the custom content. Hope you'll enjoy your teaching job, but still find time to play the game.

Until your return...

Callbat that soo sucks, I really enjoyed coming into Kent and seeing what you have been doing and how you do it... This update was soo great too and the facts where very good too!!! I do hope you get some break time in teaching and able to play a little to rebuild, btw in the great words of Nardo69 "make sure you make a backup of everything" well almost his words but the general idea is to save a backup of all your hard work...  Hope to see Kent again soon....

thundercrack: Thanks mate, don't worry I've already restarted Kent and I hope to have a new update in a few short weeks.
Pat: haha! thank you my friend. I'm very pleased to know you really enjoyed my diary and it's comments like yours that keep this MD going  My first week teaching was a bit busy but hopefully next week I won't be as occupied anymore.

take a look:

Porto DeVincenzi:

Italy is my third favourite country. After Britain and Spain. So I decided that since panthersimcity4 and Criquette
(over at ST, you should really go take a look at their diaries) are already doing excellent Spanish cities perhaps I should try some Italian? I know it's not perfect (lack of boats in a port city for one thing) but I only just started last night when I got home from work lol. If you guys really like it I'll show some more Italian updates!
Don't worry Kent will still be shown, I've already started on the new Kent.

Ma-Ma-Mia! Thank-a-you very-much-a for looking!

don't-a forget to a-leave a comment!

Quite well, but I don't like this repetitiveness of buildings in British cities. Often examining the city of different users I can see it exactly alone and I don't like him oneself it. But I liked lands dwelt in by foreigners.

Hi Callbat,

I like Kent very much, so good luck with recovering it/rebuilding it.  Of course, as I work in London every day I recognise much of what you are creating and I like the subtle changes.  Park Corner does a great job of recreating Speakers Corner.  And I assume Surrey Park is a Hyde Park replacement.

The eel and pie shop is also a nice touch.  Never been a jellied eel fan, but pie and mash - any day.  I must pop in and try them out :D

And your slight re-writing of history is great as well.  The great fire monument is a nice touch, although maybe it needs to be surrounded by larger buildings??  Peterloo station is great, like it alot, nice choice of train mod for your city.

Your Italian city is looking good too, total change of style.  I guess I prefer the London (oops, sorry, Kent) MD because I know the city well and you're doing such a great job with it.

Good luck with whatever comes next.

Paul

Hey Callbat,
that last picture made me think of this little town in Croatia :

Excellent village man  :satisfied:
Just need to add some boats, terraces and people....

Yes, that last photo is a departure from the norm, callbat, but very attractive. As I follow more and more MDs here, I find myself growing fond of Mediterranean-style villages and cities. Hope you will continue to develop this little hideaway by the sea.

Until next time...

Wow, so many great replies! Thanks to everyone lol, your personal replies are down below but first I'd like to show you a progress shot of the new Kent City with the usual added photo effects.

Can anyone tell me what this is? ( I mean, what scene from London I'm trying to copy):
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi284.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fll38%2FAlexandre_058%2Fno-cheating-mate.jpg&hash=0f2270062e937819e384e411244f3f085d946ede)

There are still a few kinks to work out, for instance, the image as a whole doesn't "flow" to me, but maybe that's just a matter of filling the whole shot with already developed areas. We'll just have to wait and see.

And since you are all so keen on the Italian thing here is another mosaic for you great lovely people  :P :
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi284.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fll38%2FAlexandre_058%2Fmosaictop.jpg&hash=dbae8b044336eee7e4dcec4df8b010907bd0ed01)
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi284.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fll38%2FAlexandre_058%2Fmosaicbottom.jpg&hash=1467499ee629db6cfbb7d1dff1cdb18266caa24e)

It could've been better, I know, but it's hard to do a mosaic with coastlines and a continuous blurring effect (the cliffs are supposed to be out of focus) But nevertheless I hope you enjoyed it!

Jayo: Nice to see you here mate! Yeah lol I can't figure out what to do about the boats, I tried lotting the boats (all the lots in the med. shots are made by me) but I can't get the boats to appear above water when I plop them. Is there something I'm missing here? lol. Thanks again.
bat: Thank you my friend!
szymcar: arrgh yes the repitition bugs me sometimes too, but it's just another game limitation (and lack of any more London BATs) but I assure you that a real British city is one million times more architecturally diverse and beautiful. Thanks mate
paroch: I'm glad to know I'm not the only one not fond of jellied eels lol. Well yes Kent is supposed to be a copy somewhat of London but not a carbon copy so that's why I stick in those little changes. Well about the monument, like I said, the Kents (maybe me too, a little..) failed to give it good surroundings  :P
Well I'm glad you like everything and I hope to see you again
sebes: Thank you very much, although I was going for a Portofino look..and about the boats and people well I told you it wouldn't be perfect  :P
Pytkowski: Thanks mate
Jmouse: Yes, it was more to just show people that I can do something not British if I try lol. Thanks and I'll show some more pics in the future.
Pat: Wow thank you my friend. It is my honour that you are a honoured lol. Thankfully we music teachers don't write people up as often

Thank you

I'd be afraid to go in that tunnel: looks like there's gonna be a rock slide any minute! Good work, and nice attempt at an out-of-focus effect for the cliffs.

If you are talking about that obelisk its a BLaM bat and its from Antoine, that one I can point out as I lotted it for him lol :D  or are you wondering about the seawalls by marrast?  OK off that topic and back on track here that is your newest update here Callbat...

I love the effects you are trying out here and I too cause of you have tried a few new effects in my MD but I like the way yours has come out!!!! The boulders over the tunnel I dunno about as that seems abit scary to me and I sure as heck wouldnt travel under that lol..... I would suggest just leaving that area alone personaly...  Overall again grand update and I cant wait to see more!!!!!

Hi Callbat,

I'm having a catch up with MDs today and see that I've not been here for ages - apols my friend.  I am assuming you were trying to recreate the Embankment with Cleopatra's Needle?

Be interesting to know if I'm right and I hope that you keep the London theme (I prefer it to the Med theme personally).

Hello Paul!

Thanks for commenting, yes I was trying to do Cleopatra's Needle but unfortunately I haven't had much time  &mmm

I will keep the London theme, the Med. theme was a bit of an experiment  ;D

I do hope you can bear with me whilst I get things sorted out  :D

In a few weeks the school semester ends and I won't teach for four weeks and hopefully that will leave more time for me to play some more SC4,

Thanks for commenting, I'll see you later  ;)
