Hi folks. This is my region - Somewhere in my Mind - set on one of the default Maxis maps (the one with five large city tiles). It's my baby, it's not all done, it may never be. ;D I started playing it back in the days before I had any custom content at all!!! Yes, truly they were the dark ages. So it's undergone some serious reinvention over time - and is undergoing some now, and it will continue to. I have a few "Before Plugins - After Plugins" pics that I think are quite interesting. Big difference ...
Anyway, I play all my cities on Hard and I don't use cheats. I do love custom content though - SimGoober's lots show up a lot, Pegasus', BSC's parks, I have NAM now finally. ;) Cycledogg's trees and terrain mod, NDEX towers, etc. I'll credit stuff as it comes up. :)
I'm still learning about, and evolving with, the game. Constructive criticism is very welcome - ideas about what I should build or do, etc. Feedback is much appreciated.
Here's a shot of the whole region for starters. You can see I'm doing a big overhaul of the South which isn't yet complete (hence, all the cities don't seem to match ;D).
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi122.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo261%2FLion_In_Winter%2FSomewhere%2520in%2520My%2520Mind%2FSomewhereinMyMind-1167393428.png&hash=760b8a61cd0b684e909103a875e7779a118364c5)
And one which delineates all the city boundaries.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi122.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo261%2FLion_In_Winter%2FSomewhere%2520in%2520My%2520Mind%2FSomewhereinMyMind-1170845467.png&hash=b8c258fdfd09957a76dbd4103156bb97313f25fa)
Hope it interests you. :)
Hey, Flipside! That's some major development, without a doubt. The detail in the pics is pretty small for a person of my delicate years, but my seeing eye dog tells me that there's good stuff to come once you start showing us close up shots.
We'll be watching for the next update.
Good luck!
David
Flipside,
Looks like you've got some great things in store for us when you start showing us those cities. I, for one, really want to see those "pre-custom content" pics and some comparison "after" pics. Your city names are unique... are there any good stories behind those names? (such as Splitsville, or Awning Drip)
I'll be here for the next update.
wonderful development! Great region + regionoverview!
Dedgren: Thanks for the kind words. Hope you and your seeing-eye dog enjoy the rest. ;D
Meinhosen: Funny you should ask. :) Some of the names are totally random, some are puns, some are references. Splitsville actually doesn't mean anything, but you know, since I'm in the process of totally altering that city, I think it just might become a vacation destination for those Sims seeking to forget a bitter breakup or an unhappy past life. ()stsfd()
Awning Drip is what it seems to be. :) You know when you're standing under an awning on the street and it's raining? Sometimes you get a sudden shower of run-off. :'(
Bat: Thanks for the encouragement. :)
Okay so ... the first city I'll spotlight is Batrax, which is in the South to the East of Artika.
Batrax was originally just an ugly feeder city for Artika. I hadn't gotten around to making it anything to look at. But when Artika was wiped out by a spate of "natural" disasters, strangely, Batrax was as well! %confuso &sly
This was it before ...
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi122.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo261%2FLion_In_Winter%2FBatrax%2FBatrax-Nov.png&hash=1e4a0640779ab8d4905cc13605d940f88c19e0f7)

Yuck! Yuck yuck yuck yuck!!! Total grid-city mess. No water, utterly flat terrain, BORING! ;)The only cool part was the cemetery ...
Note SimGoober's rural hospital though ... I think it's the only building still standing from the old city in the new one.
This city deserved destruction ... &mmm
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi122.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo261%2FLion_In_Winter%2FBatrax%2FBatrax-Feb-9.png&hash=aa0d7bc26d72f4d65fffe16a00b16c8de70eed20)

...
The Reformation
So ... the citizens of Batrax (Batraxians?) fell upon hard times, I guess there is a vengeful God ... or something. ::)
Suddenly hills sprouted out of flats ... suddenly the Sun went 'round the Moon, suddenly the snow came down in June ...
Err, forget that last bit. N E way ...
The city fathers had enough Whiz-dumb to salt away some serious cash in case of emergency. Well, now it was time to bust it out! Reconstruction had to happen! The Sims of Batrax couldn't live forever in dilapidated housing that lacked water and power. A couple months, sure, but hey, not forever. ;)
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi122.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo261%2FLion_In_Winter%2FBatrax%2FBatrax-Dec-3.png&hash=74be21c4ba26993dd9b8e6d1d6f14d9ed72e95a5)
But where do you go from there?
Clean up, I guess ...
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi122.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo261%2FLion_In_Winter%2FBatrax%2FBatrax-Jul.png&hash=367a8ca77d95a6624b031b5ab9b3c0a03d10ac8f)
As you can see, the city's profit-loss ratio was getting a little scary at this point. :)
But the budget hemorrhage couldn't end before the infrastructure was rebuilt ...
A new highway was commissioned relinking Batrax with Artika. Plus, some long abandoned structures were bashed down.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi122.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo261%2FLion_In_Winter%2FBatrax%2FBatrax-Jan-8.png&hash=6cde478a063a452b4dec882addb8e1d92649c9eb)

And finally, some new development. Ensconced in the hills in the centre of the city, a new industrial district begins to take shape, complete with a SimGoober canal! :D Also, the first new residential development springs up. Oh, and look at that mountain pond! :)
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi122.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo261%2FLion_In_Winter%2FBatrax%2FBatrax-Jun-1.png&hash=8231704694c3216ce369da26f33c0ef9e0f23aa1)
My residential area (still needing a name) grows larger ... included in it are some of the low-wealth 1960s era British towers I found on the STEX ... and some great trees courtesy of ... I forget. :) And I can't just look in the plugins folder, this is the wrong computer. But man, Lombard Poplars! I love 'em! Weeping Willows! To die for!
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi122.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo261%2FLion_In_Winter%2FBatrax%2FBatrax-Jul-1.png&hash=b1448bdff8ff3f7a7a5eb7bb61159375e81a01b9)
A few more years of maturation ...

...
Gee Flipside, when I get annoyed with my cities I just blow 'em up, never thought about changing the topography! Will be waiting for more.....
In that last pic, you can see the wonderful Slaytforke (sp) Mill, as well as some cool farms from Mickebear. Also, the Hansen Hosiery Mill (I think), plus many of Mickebear's small Mediterranean industries.
You can also see a different residential development in the top right hand corner of the last pic. Here's a better view:

Meanwhile, the area around the mountain pond (still in need of a name) continues to blossom.

There's a big contrast in Batrax ... some citizens have recovered from the disasters very quickly and are again well-off ... some haven't.

Commerce rears its head! You can also spot a SimGoober train station which replaced a conventional one because of high usage.

A cute little downtown ... I see a Bank of Nova Scotia among other delights.

Farms span the North-East of the city. Also, one of SCBA's minor league stadiums was built - a favorite hangout of farm boys and the industrial proletariat. :) Hey, bread and circuses, right?

You can see some development in the North-West, as well as the bird's-eye view of how everything else has played out.
And that's where I left Batrax. ;D Thoughts, questions, advice, comments, insults? :)

Gee Flipside, when I get annoyed with my cities I just blow 'em up, never thought about changing the topography! Will be waiting for more.....
Hi Fred. ;D That city had about $800,000 Simoleons in the bank so ... I didn't want to start from scratch there. Besides, disasters are more fun. ;)
Wonderful updates and pictures!
I have to admit I was a little hesitant after the first introduction. The region didn't look all that interesting, but after this one I'm totally hooked. What an unconvensional and very... what should I call it... LIBERATING approach to the game. And the cemetary name kills me (pun intended).
Bat: Thank you kindly. ;D
Emilin: I kinda worried the initial pics aren't impressive enough and I thought that by starting off with showing what I built that sucked and I destroyed might turn people away. ;) Maybe I should edit the first post to add some teaser shots that are actually nice? ::)
Anyway, I'll be on to another city since the last update brings Batrax up to date. Was that a good or a bad sentence? lol. Not sure which ... :) For the next update, I'll either keep it small with another mid-sized or rural city or plunge into my metropoli. ()stsfd() $%Grinno$% Not sure which yet ...
Anyway, thanks for responding, guys. Always appreciated.
 well flip i do have to say to you what a very impressive region you got that is large amount of sims you got living in there wow, far as building style i would say hmmm what are looking to accomplish here a more rural look or a urban or even a green dream? if you are going for a rural look i would do it with a green design and make it a haven for the sims to want to get away from it all type town. IMO Pat

Thanks, Pat. ;D
I'm not sure what I'm trying to accomplish, actually. :) I think a hodge-podge.
One idea I do have is I think the South will be more rural than the North. I want all types of cities in my region, though. I guess my goal with that is to try to integrate them all realistically.
I live in Vancouver; it's about 50 or 60 miles from downtown until farms start cropping up and there's everything in between. Like Vancouver, every urban area has it's hinterland and I'd like to reflect that in my region.
I'm not the sort of player who likes to plan extensively, either. Some people lay out their whole terrain and their entire transportation grid before zoning anything. I admire that spirit, but it's not my own. :) I always found my best cities came about by accident and my best ideas were spontaneous and worked out better than I'd ever imagined. I do have loose plans for what I want to do, but they're always subject to revision depending on how the simulation goes. ;D
Thanks for your response. ;D
One general suggestion I always offer when I see it: turn off the U-Drive-It icons to give the pics a better/less cluttered look (after all, unless you are taking the picture just for them, they don't offer much to the scenery). I like how you ringed the pond with the wildflowers and the dead/bare trees: an interesting contrast. The avenue next to the pond is interesting... seems like if you got going quick enough you could get a heck of a jump and clear the dip after leaving the tunnel. An orderly industrial sector, plenty of residential, commerce and a ballpark to boot: a good start for what looks like it will be a very nice city. I like your style of just playing as you go (without too much planning ahead). I play a similar way and it sometimes surprises me with the end result. Keep it up and never worry that your pics aren't good enough (even the best had to start somewhere) and you have a good start on that too.

Hi threestooges. :) Thanks for the in-depth response.
Usually I turn off UDI icons for pics, but sometimes I just can't be bothered with the little cities like that one. ::)
I'm a bit ambivalent about the paint-on water ... but I think it looks okay there.
I'm worried people might not wade through to the good stuff since I showed what I demolished first. ;) Hope not. :)
Anyway, I'm gonna do another update in a few mins ... this time I'll change gears and switch to my urban areas ...
City of the Vanished, City of the Salt Springs Eternal
Okay, so ... COV-COSSE (;)) is easily the largest city in my region (a little under 500,000 Sims right now) and I could probably do an entire CJ on just it alone given all the changes I've made to it. But I'll condense things. ;)
I think this city is interesting because when I started it, I wasn't using plugins at all. :o A totally virgin game! %confuso I built it up to about 220,000 Sims and used about the same amount of the map that is in current use before I had *anything* installed in the plugins folder.
Then ... I left the Dark Ages. :D I lavished the city with creations from BSC, Pegasus, NDEX, Cycledogg and many more. I gave it Road-Top Mass Transit and NAM (latterly). I tore it up on a massive scale and rebuilt it on an even more massive one.
And I think it's quite interesting because what a contrast! If any of you have forgotten about what a difference the custom content given to us by all the great BATters has made, I think this city will remind you. ;) What is really brought home to me is what creative limits were imposed by Maxis's Plain Jane version; and also, what creativity is now possible thanks to the work of so many selfless folks who love SimCity.
Without further ado, into the way-back machine we go ...
City of the Vanished was founded off the banks of the Lion Bird Milk Lake (in the bottom portion of the screen), home of some very strange wildlife indeed. A very blue-collar city in these days ... also, the city fathers failed to put much thought into imaginative transportation networks. ()stsfd() *Note: Don't the bridges look terrible without the Bridge mod that makes them level? *Note 2: The pic always reminded me of what I think the nicer (!) industrial wastelands of 19th century England might have looked like ...

As it grew, it grew eastward (westward from the angle the pic is taken at). You can see the Mayor had a soft spot for green spaces in his city - too bad there was nothing much to elaborate them with before plugins ... ()sad()

Like I say, the city expanded eastward. ;)

Okay, that's a bit of a jump ahead, but the Mayor failed to really record the painstaking progress of the city to that point. ;) I mean, it was thrown out with the rest of the archives. Hey, COV didn't have a Bureau of Bureaucracy back then. Don't be so harsh. :D
As you can see, a budding metropolis had grown up - yet not at the entire expense of anything green. See, the Mayor has it in his head that he'd like to build a HUMANE metropolis. You know, one where walking the streets isn't the equivalent of two packs of cigarettes ...
The working class industry that fueled the city in its early years is by now mostly gone, replaced by Big Science industry or Big Commerce service jobs.
A closer look ...
The downtown:

And the last of my oldies I'll put up right now, the Monument Park Area:
Monument Park was built to commemorate the dissolution of Ben Affleck and J-Lo's relationship. Sniff, it touched us all. It gave us Gigli. Those were the days ...
Ahem. So in light of the importance of it, it was easy to see that the university and country club needed to be demolished to make way. $%Grinno$%

And the park built ... a statue of both Ben and J-Lo - separated by a giant phallic-shaped building ... what could be more appropriate! :P

So ... after that, I decided I needed plugins, man. Translation: I finally got a new computer which could handle a whole bunch. ::)
So I got them. Finally, I could impose my true vision upon this city. Mwuahahahaha! And that true vision I shall begin sharing ... ;D
/wrrd%& Just before I go to bed, I'll give a teaser of the shape of things to come. ;)
At night, so not to reveal all my surprises ... :D

So ..
The first thing I wanted to do was redesign the parks (Ill Will Hill and Warren Zvonareva) which lie around the centre of the city. They were too small and dull. I was thinking bigger.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi122.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo261%2FLion_In_Winter%2FCity%2520of%2520the%2520Vanished%2FIll%2520Will%2520Hill%2520Park%2520plus%2FCityoftheVanishedCityofth-Dec-4.png&hash=73ae6f13c71cf8ae4a54aed49483a59f73cd119d)
That's Ill Will Hill. The whole block would be demolished to make way for the new incarnation of it. What of the thousands of residents there, you say? Hey, you're asking too many questions. &sly
This pic shows the early destruction and also Warren Zvonareva park (named after two real-life minor celebrities for no good reason ;)) as it was before. The area around it would also feel the wrecking ball. "$Deal"$

Finally the finished product. This was the first BSC Park I ever made, but I still like it a lot. I think it really makes the city. The park now provides a natural divide between the downtown area towers and the less dense commercial and industrial areas to the west.

Next, I'm going to radically remodel the area around the seaport ...
Excellent work, Flipside! I lvoe the region shots at the beginning and also watching you destroy and recreate the city after changing the terraforming. Quite an interesting concept. Also, I like the names of your cities and other landmarks, very creative! I'll be looking forward to more!
I like the reconstruction theme. The first pics were not bad, they showed a lot of work before the upheaveal (sp?.) Plus I love the III Will Hill Park.
On a side note, I too had to get a hardware upgrade for this monsterous game. Love to see pics of yours here (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=383.0)

Oh, Peter! I'd contribute to that thread of yours but I don't have any pics of my machine. &ops It's not really that good anyway. ::)
Thanks for the reply. ;D There's a lot more reconstruction to do and to be shown ... I'll get around to it tonight, maybe. :)

Thanks, Thundercrack! ;D I always thought the beauty in the game was the endless innovation possible. If you don't like it, you can just blow it up and build a new one. :)
Or I'll just do some now ... :)
When I resumed the city, it was economically depressed. C$$ and C$$$ were in the tank, so was CO$$$. The only thing that really had demand was R$$. So I thought, fine, I'll give you R$$, you jerks. Fine! So I embarked upon a crash building plan ... anyway, the seaport area was the first to get it ... including the removal of the seaport!

Based on the appearance of the area as it is I recommend:
-Maintaining a uniform density around the water's edge
-perhaps fill the middle with a park (or the water's edge with a park and buildings inside)
-For an avenue bridge ending there, and with avenues heading that way, it seems to all stop suddenly at their intersection: perhaps continue the avenue all the way through: make it more prominent.
--This would be better for traffic flow as well
-perhaps spruce up the appearance of the avenue bridge (it seems as though you are attempting to make a more upscale area (as it would be, being surrounded by all that water)) it seems to be out of place with the other bridges/rest of the area
Please feel free to use (or disregard) any of these. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
I like the changes that you've made. The only suggestion I would give would be to look into a Slope Mod so you don't have those really steep hills leading to the bridges. Other than that, I think the suggestions made by threestooges would work great, too!
The reconstruction is going well. Looks good to me. About the brides and the steep incline, thundercrack83, will the bridge fix mod help too? Not really sure. But Flipside, you may like it like that. But give these a try, you'll most likely have to rebuild the bridges, but you don't have to save it if you don't like the outcome.

Threestooges, thank you for the suggestions. ;D I bolded #2; that's the one that was on my mind - Buildings lining the shore, big park in the middle. I had also thought maybe I would do some "land reclamation" and put Pegasus' Docks lining the waterfront, in front of the residential towers ...
Oh, and as for the traffic network, yeah it still needs work. &mmm ::) I will get on that ...
Peter and Thundercrack: Thanks for the replies. ;D I am going back in time with these pics, all the way back before I had the Bridge mod which levels things out. :) I know, that bridge looks horrible, doesn't it? I will fix it next time I play the city. "$Deal"$
Thanks for the thoughtful responses, folks. :) I'll next switch to another area in the city which has probably been rebuilt more drastically than any other. The Northern Banks ... :-\
Great update! Fantastic work!
I can't wait to see what you've got in store for us with the Northern Banks!
Very interesting city you have here, and it's on hard with no cheats. Great work. ;D
Bat: Thank you for your support, Bat! ;D
Thundercrack: The wait is about to be over, you can stop holding your breath. :satisfied:
Rooker: Thank you! Although, I do use plops - did I mention that somewhere? Some people consider that cheating, I think? I dunno, given the cost of a lot of them, I think it's fair play. ;)
The Northern Banks
When I was building the city originally, I had no real vision of what the Northern Banks would look like, and it shows. &sly Basically, I used it unimaginatively to absorb my high demand for I-HT. At some point, my city started to stagnate - commercial demand dropped off, residential demand, save for R-$$, slowed. But that's getting ahead of myself ...
I had to move the University and the Country Club to SOMEWHERE, and I wanted to bring the subway system above ground.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi154.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs263%2Flime_purple%2FCOV-COSSE%2FUniversity%2520Borough%2FCityoftheVanishedCityofth-Nov.png&hash=06a3286b5362e866217942bd3eaa164c5949c167)
But the whole thing turned into a big mess:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi154.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs263%2Flime_purple%2FCOV-COSSE%2FUniversity%2520Borough%2FCityoftheVanishedCityofth-Jun.png&hash=ce9266f788c4657a0265eea334a5541b3ede50c5)

The residential development along the coast in the below pictures is newer than the rest - as I said, imbalances in demand led me to build whatever would grow; In this point, just I-HT and R-$$. So I embarked on some crash development which you see there. I didn't put any thought to it; I knew that the city needed thousands of R-$$ Sims to revive the economy, so I did it as quickly as I could. That would have consequences later ... but again, I get ahead of myself ...
This is the wasteland of haphazard zones I confronted as I sought to create something worth looking at ... it's an absolute eyesore ...

Gross ... but at the same time, it was a large swathe of zones I didn't care about so it opened the door to some very enjoyable destruction. ;D
The first area I wanted to tackle was the University Borough:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi154.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs263%2Flime_purple%2FCOV-COSSE%2FUniversity%2520Borough%2FCityoftheVanishedCityofth-Feb.png&hash=4dd86f89c033ac5373eff02d3947caa9d6a0b483)

I was dead-set on putting that SG Train Station there, but it never got the ridership numbers I had hoped for ...
Here it is rezoned and rebuilt. I used the Stonewall Jackson memorial in the middle there with the baseball parks ... I still like that. :)

I don't entirely like the renovation of that area now ... in that last pic, it looks out of place, although that changes as I alter the surrounding areas. But on the whole, I could do it better these days, and I will get back to it. But anyway, that last pic well sets up where I'm going with this; you see the developing residential district along the water - it's expanding, and that's where I'm going next. ::)
You've seen the waterfront residential district I'm building - it would come to be known as Downtown North - but that's a bit in the future. But like I say, I was building to satisfy demand; I wasn't concerned with how things looked or how practical it was. When I first started rebuilding the region, it was full of I-HT factories that didn't appear to have anybody working in them. ;D I would just rezone residential right over top of them and move on. That filled a lot of the jobs, it also spurred commercial demand by creating thousands of potential workers - but it would cause some problems later, as we will see.
Now for a bit of a pause and a look at the changes I've wrought before I move on to what I did with the Downtown North area:
The reconstruction I've shown you covers about 30 game years. In that time, the city grew at a positively breakneck pace. The population nearly doubled that which took more than 300 years prior to amass.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi154.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs263%2Flime_purple%2FCOV-COSSE%2FStats%2FCityoftheVanishedCityofth-Sep-4.png&hash=6c96c1dc260e4872ece386f218489fbd9df1269a)
It wasn't cheap though ...
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi154.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs263%2Flime_purple%2FCOV-COSSE%2FStats%2FCityoftheVanishedCityofth-Sep-1.png&hash=2ca17cd0cb7c59516eb397f32482dafb057eaa30)
When I finally finished the Downtown North area, the budget would bottom out near $0. The cost of widespread destruction, expensive plops and lost revenue from destroyed buildings adds up ... Hey, if the Mayor didn't have the newsmedia in his pocket just think of the outcry ... $%Grinno$%
The grand totals aren't seen, but a quick addition shows the city was running a deficit of a thousand or two per month at this point. I got used to vast profit/loss swings with this city; you have to if you're going to demolish/rebuild on the scale I was.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi154.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs263%2Flime_purple%2FCOV-COSSE%2FStats%2FCityoftheVanishedCityofth-Aug.png&hash=4db68c271bb7bd14887deb65eaaa30ba9d24a740)
It wasn't all gloom, though.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi154.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs263%2Flime_purple%2FCOV-COSSE%2FStats%2FCityoftheVanishedCityofth-Sep-3.png&hash=c5284aca91a04aec539bb6f2d320d8a131dd0c43)

I had a profitable mass transit network, which I always like ...
However, it cost me in commute time ... or at least, something did. ()what() Who knows with that ... I plopped more than a few NDEX parking lots - I hear those can hinder commute time but I don't know how much. Anybody? Otherwise I have only my bad transportation network to blame and you know my motto - never blame yourself when others are around. ::) &Thk/(

I'm actually kinda impressed that things integrated as smoothly as they did - that's a lot of Sims in a short time! Anyhow, I've hardly even begun to show what I did with the Northern Banks. That's what I'll get to next, probably tomorrow since I have the day off. &apls
'Til then.
Great work. I love the graphs. The city looks very well laid out. I like everything, and here comes the but, but there are two eye sores for me. First, I think you should try using the Bridge height modd which can be found here. http://www.simtropolis.com/modding/index.cfm?p=details&id=314 (http://www.simtropolis.com/modding/index.cfm?p=details&id=314)
By no means is this a cheat. It just changes the bridge height to look more realistic, although you may have to build the approaching ground up to allow ferries to pass under.
Second, I hate the Maxis golf coarse. Too small, unrealsitic and ugly. Just my opinion for those who do like it. Have a look at this golf pack made by Joerg found here. http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?page=1&keyword=joergs%20golf&type=all (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?page=1&keyword=joergs%20golf&type=all)
I love this pack, it's great, Joerg is great, it's all good.
Everything else is just right, these are just suggestions. I hope you like them.

Thanks, Rooker. ;D
I have the Bridge Height Mod now ... these are older pics from a few months ago, actually. :) Makes a big difference to have it. I agree the Maxis bridges ARE eyesores ...
Thanks for the link to Joerg's Golf Pack ... I hadn't seen it before. Seems way better than the Maxis Country Club, although I don't hate it ...
And ack! All my pics now say I've exceeded my photobucket monthly bandwidth limit! I will have to fix this ...
Try image shack, I think it's the type of thing, but I have never had any issue with the amount of pics I upload.
:'( :'( :'(
I cannot see any thing but Photobucket Bandwith limit....

Bummer.

Your renovation of the University Borough is quite nice! You've given in much more of a campus feel with all the parks, trees, etc. Great job!

Is ImageShack better, Rooker? A free PB album only allows a certain number of linked pic views per month ... the pics will all show up again on March 2nd. 10 Gigs of bandwidth per month allowed ... ;D &ops I hadn't realized I was going to go over the limit!
Nik-Nik: Hee, sorry. ::) I've started the process of transferring a bunch of those latest pics to another album to make them show now and hopefully avoid this in the future. ()sad()
Thundercrack: Thanks for the kind words, but I think the Uni area just isn't quite there yet. It needs more detail and thought. What would you do?
this is a very nice looking city, it looks like you put alot of care into it. great job
Hey, Flipside! Like I said, I think the university looks good. The only thing that I would add to it would be a larger stadium (maybe the Maxis minor league stadium) or something like that. It would give the school's teams a home stadium. You build a bigger stadium, depending on how big your school's athletic program is. Living about an hour from State College, PA (home of Penn State), I know what big college stadiums are like. Penn State's football stadium, Beaver Stadium, holds over 100,000 people! On the other hand, my college's stadium is significantly smaller. A stadium may be something you want to play around with, or not. Either way, I can't wait to see what you do! Take care, and I'm honored that you asked for my opinion!
It occurs to me that the sizing on those pics I reposted is bigger than I thought it would be. I might resize them if it's found to be just too annoying to have to scroll across like that.
Anyhow, when I last left off, the Northern Banks looked something like this:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi154.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs263%2Flime_purple%2FCOV-COSSE%2FDowntown%2520Noirth%2FCityoftheVanishedCityofth-Jan.png&hash=5b856ccde0bc09be175ffb73dd2a7729ff73c19b)
A bunch of residential condos in a predominantly I-HT area. But R-$$ demand remained so high that I resolved to press onward with rezoning the north-east edge of the city.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi154.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs263%2Flime_purple%2FCOV-COSSE%2FDowntown%2520Noirth%2FCityoftheVanishedCityofth-Jan-1.png&hash=a9133baae74c6a5504e83bbb8b11deafc66124ab)
I thought I would take the above area and nurture it into a second downtown area – introducing big commerce as well as more high-density residential.

But it couldn't last. More and more residential skyscrapers kept coming up and I hadn't built a transportation network remotely capable of handling the increased traffic. For a while I kept plopping large commerce buildings closer and closer to the residential towers, but it didn't work. Residential dilapidation occurred on a large scale. The whole area needed to be blown up and done right ...

Btw, question ... does the Metropolitan Mall always show up as a large red blotch on the traffic menu? I mean, it supports more than 5,000 jobs usually, that would be high traffic – but it's a BUILDING! ()what()
Anyhow, there's where I'll leave it for now. I'll show you what I did with things in my next update. :)
Great pictures! Wonderful update and work!
now thats a very good grid layout. thank you
Cali: Thanks for the supportive replies! ;D I'm trying to bust away from the grid-style in some of my other cities, but the game lends itself to it and for this city it's mostly ok, I think. ()stsfd()
Thundercrack: Wow, 100,000 people? Jesus. I guess that's college sports in the States, though.
The Minor League Stadium has bounced around in that city ... I struggle to find a natural-looking spot for it ... maybe it would be best back near the Uni ...
Bat: Thanks as always for your charming comments. ;D
LOL with the traffic at the building. Lotsa pedestrians I guess.
I have the same with a traffic generating parking lot. Great to upset a neighbourhood with!
Also nice to see all those graphs. Noticed how the city changed between:
11/25/189
2/11 / 353 and the years after that until
10/8/417 (traffic congestion)
Especially the era 1/20/359 until 10/16/365 shows a lot of building going on.
Nik-Nik
Wow! Interesting and good grid layout. Looking good here. &apls
My thoughts while viewing the college were the same as Thunder's, what, no football field? But i did notice those oblong sporting fields. Plus I should always remember the internationalness of Sim City and Devotion. I am as dumb as a brick when it comes to how the rest of the world does things like collegent sports. So I was not going to mention it, just write a paragraph on it, that's all. I'm really enjoying the reconstruction, I think it's cool to show us. Plus I need ideas as I must do the same to a too fast growing city.
Nik-Nik: I'd hoped giving the stats would appeal to the geek in all of us. ;D Just curious, how many game years do you (and anyone else who cares to answer) put into your cities, usually?
Naryanna: I LOVE your avatar! And thanks for the support. :)
Peter: I had a thought just now ... isn't it warped how we think of real-life universities and go ... where's the football field? $%Grinno$% lol, somewhere along the line, maybe we as a society have lost what it's supposed to be about ... or maybe it was always just an extended childhood for rich kids. ::)
One note about the current city I'm showing: it has almost zero low-wealth citizens and NO dirty industry at all. I like that ... because it's realistic. Like it or not, metropolitan cities (at least in North America) have become unaffordable for low-income persons, and they've also become places where industrial labour jobs are tough to find - of course, they are also magnets for homeless people, the poorest of all. But Sim City failed to factor that in ...
Now ... I haven't posted in a few days because I got sick. ()sad() BUT NOW I AM ... okay, still sick. :-[ But I'll pick up things where I left off soon ...
Anyway, it was time to rip it all apart ...

The Peg Dynashore Exclusive whatever Ocean college thingie $%Grinno$% ;D is off-shore. You can also see a whole whack of NDEX towers, the Shenzhen TV Studio, the Windspear Arena, the Appollinaire Residential tower, etc. etc. The only problem now is the abrupt drop in density compared with the surrounding area. But I'll fix that in time.

And that's Downtown North as it stands today ...
You know, the more that I follow your work, the more I enjoy the concept. Instead of following the city as it's being built, you've taken an already built city and renovating it. It's a great idea, and a lot of fun to compare the Before/After shots. Anyway, the new Downtown North looks good, I love all the custom skyscrapers you've got placed. Keep up the good work and I hope you feel better!

Thanks, Thundercrack. :) I'm glad you like my spin on a city journal.
I still have my cold though. :bomb:
So I'd like to go away from DT-N (as I call it) for the time being. Back to the area around Ill Will Hill Park.
As seen, bordering that park and the Warren Zvonareva Park are the two oldest developments in the city; The First District Commerce and the First District Residential, right above it.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi122.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo261%2FLion_In_Winter%2FCity%2520of%2520the%2520Vanished%2FIll%2520Will%2520Hill%2520Park%2520plus%2FCityoftheVanishedCityofth-Sep.png&hash=003e9939c2181f37a6aa260198c8cabaffccb8db)
Both had existed there in more or less the same form for hundreds of years and contain buildings that are centuries old. But the lavish new parks built nearby meant property values were doomed to escalate. That was troublesome for the old Residential District; it contained some of the last low-income housing in the city. It wouldn't be long before rapacious capitalist developers were hammering on the door of City Hall to redevelop the area into more high-income condos ...
This is a close-up of how it appeared before ...
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi122.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo261%2FLion_In_Winter%2FCity%2520of%2520the%2520Vanished%2FIll%2520Will%2520Hill%2520Park%2520plus%2FCityoftheVanishedCityofth-Sep-1.png&hash=b81acfab7c91c7c185f55975342c33131f45ba0f)
A mere twenty years after the completion of the Parks, the go-ahead for a major redesign of the First District Residential was granted. Neighborhood activists and anti-poverty, anti-capitalist demonstrators had to content themselves with the city's not-so-generous compensation package (a copy of the mayor's autobiography - personally signed by his secretary %wrd). &mmm
But not all change is bad. The mayor has a commitment to green livin' and humanity in his city. "For every tower, build a tree ..."

Big commerce moved in as the NDEX Sidfeldt Tower was erected.

I think it looks nice ... the new residential towers gel better with the skyscrapers around it than did the old, and the First District Commerce, still almost unchanged, looks pretty quaint and unique in comparison to the rest of the city. Many players despise the repitition of Maxis buildings, myself included on occasion, but in this case it has given that block of the city a real special feel. All those high-wealth, low-density buildings set it apart from the rest of the city - and hey, I always liked the Freytag Building and Marshall Printing and all those medium-low density Maxis commerce towers. ;) I think it looks like a block built LONG before everything else that has still managed retained its original makeup (which it is). I like the effect.
That done, the mayor sets his sights to the area to the immediate North-West, which could badly use a facelift.

Sorry I haven't commented as much as I should around here. This is good. In fact, it's really good. It's one of the best "classical" approaches to the game around (not much cheating, not only custom content, taking the game constraints into fact, ect.) and the way you present it makes me feel like I'm taking part in the actual development.
Oh, hey- Flip...
Your Mayor is small change. If he'd really been a member of the dark side of the force, he would have required the developers to build a new school as an "offsite improvement" that was "contributed" in return for the needed governmental approvals and permissions. The law firm I started with was fighting those wars in Northern Virginia in the late 1980s. They're probably still raging.
Nice stuff here. I agree with everyone else- you've got a nice angle going here.
David
Great pictures! Wonderful updates and work!
Another great update, my friend! I love watching how you are tackling the renovations! Keep up the good work!
read through your "mind" just now and i'm glad i did. the way you present is interesting and wow 417 years? i dont think i've played any city that long. well, i havent been playing sc4 rh long enough either. lol i'm a late bloomer, i guess. got into the game just this year, lol. and im finding inspiring ways in governing because of the way you present your cities. i never really had the guts to tear a city apart like you do. but now, i think i do. LOL i think tornadoes, fires, UFOs, overwhelming robots and what not are going to "change" my region today. LOL thanks, pal. will follow your MD from now on.
Great MD, I also really like the reno idea. If I may suggest turning off the pause and minimizing the tool bar your pictures would look so much better. (IMO) I think it's a distraction from the great work you are doing. I'll be back!
Emilin: Happy to see you back. :)
You can take part in the actual development. :) I take suggestions. ::)
David: My Mayor is small change, that's true. But maybe next time he needs someone's house demolished he'll have the "developers" "contribute" a nice, new, spiffy statue of his likeness. I mean, the Sims can learn more gazing at his image than reading textbooks. Come now. %wrd
Bat: Always lovely to hear from you. ;D
zniehadajet: lol, happy to be of inspiration. &idea May your SC4 journey be as pleasurable as mine. ;D
rooker: I probably should not take pictures on pause and always minimize the toolbar, but I'm a bit lazy. :P I don't know, it doesn't upset me too much. But you're right; I should do it that way.
Hope to see you again soon. :)
I have to disagree with david he said you have a nice angle going on here
not what i would say but more like this you have a very great angle and take on
this city end my comment lol but really awsome work and love it - pat
So I wanted to redo the area to the North of the rebuilt First District. As we've seen, it's been a hum-drum neighborhood of high-tech industry. But a lot of that industry now sits on land that could be better used for high-rises. And hey, money talks so ...
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi122.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo261%2FLion_In_Winter%2FCity%2520of%2520the%2520Vanished%2FIll%2520Will%2520Hill%2520Park%2520plus%2FCityoftheVanishedCityofth-Mar-2.png&hash=2a9363179fbf573823f36fc0ab2089cf9e995390)
Time to clear some space. But for now, it's for the purposes of another new park ...

I thought I'd give this one a woodsy appeal. Lots of trees, a Maxis Pond, and ... someone's Excalibur Park which I downloaded from the STEX. Still like that one, even if I forget the creator's name. ::) I can even see his avatar in my mind ...
This is how it integrates with the revamped neighborhood I just showed you in the last update ...

Pretty nice for what it is, I thought. Just a small patch of green that will be a visual separator between the towers to the South/the First District Commerce to the East, and what will be the new Dornell District which will rise up taking the place of the superfluous I-HT currently there and pictured below ...

Oh, and hi Pat! Thanks for the kind words. I love what you're doing over in your thread too. :) Check ya later. ;D
Really nice work Flip. Could I sugest you convert your images to jpg format before post them. Usually that's not a problem for me when I am at home, but right now at work, my internet connection is very slow and some of the images didn't even load due to long time waiting.
Also some close ups would definately spice this already great MD. ;)
Nice.
May I ask about the tall highrise with the greenish sign on top. What is it? I don't think I have seen it before.

It is the NDEX Sidfeldt Plaza, I think. I got it from the STEX - it's probably still available there if you fancy it. ()stsfd()
Hey Flip notta problem. I meant it too,
A very great update here again you are doing awsome keep it up - pat
Great update, Flipside! The new park is looking good. It fits into the neighborhood nicely. Keep up the good work!
Quotezniehadajet: lol, happy to be of inspiration. May your SC4 journey be as pleasurable as mine.
indeed you have been an inspiration and yes, it has been pleasurable. thanks to you and the other devoted MDers out there. you all have been part of a ritual i have put to practice. i check on your updates before i fire up sc4 rh. you know, for inspiration. hey, pal, how about losing the user interface and un-pausing and pressing G to lose the grid before taking your oh-so-inspiring snapshots? to the next urban renewal. see ya
Pat: Thank you kindly. ;) Always great to hear from you.
Thundercrack: Appreciate the kind words.
Zniehfdysdjgh8e539841 8c9u834#%$$%& :): I guess it really bugs people when you leave the mayor tools and the pause button on ;) I'll ditch it in the future ... but these are older shots. ::) Thanks for your reply.
So you saw where I left off. I was building a new Dornell District. Well, I haven't gotten through it yet and that shows, but I'll show a few screens of it just to tie up that loose end. (Try to ignore those PEG Docks, I was just trying them out in that area to see if I liked them there ... I might expand them all along that shoreline. Or not ;)).

wonderful update(s) and great pictures! &apls
lol. crazy nick i have, i know. its stuck with me. you can call me HEN instead. or heinz. or zniehaasdfasdfjkasdfhjk LOL! ok sorry for ranting about the grid and user interface. LOL. good job with dornell and the docks, however, seem out of place. anyway... good job, pal. see you around. keep it up
Hey Flip notta problem its always great to come here as well. I love that devolpment around the cove, talk about
high livin lol, great update looking to coming back - pat
I tend to agree with Heinz (zneihadajet / zniehaasdfasdfjkasdfhjk!) about the docks, they do seem to be out of place, but the idea of a boardwalk-type place on the riverfront I think would look pretty good if you could find a place to do it. Just a suggestion, though, it's completely up to you! I'll be looking forward to the next update!
Flip- How'd I miss this doin' the rounds? Anyway, great downtown pics- I agree with the prevailing wisdom about the docks- lookit' some pics of the Hudson along Manhattan Island and N. Jersey if you want to get the appropriate sense of scale. In any event, docks nowhere (that I know of, anyway) protrude three-quarters of the way across any river.
Another thing you might take a look at (I know the tone of this comment sounds critical, but actually you should please take it as encouraging you to show off the great stuff you do without distraction) is a slope mod. Your bridge approaches are nothing of the sort- they're Evel Knievel ramps [linkie] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evel_Knievel). When you start using a slope mod, it will make you take great care in placing bridges, which is a good thing [linkie] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martha_Stewart).
Anyway, lots to enjoy here. I'll be back around in the next few to take another look.
David
well said, david. well said. i'm going with what he says. lol but seriously, i hope you won't take it against me(or us) just constructive criticism. if i were doing an MD, i would love such things. so, here's to wisdom through experience. CHEERS!
til the next update
Though I haven't been commenting around here lately, I have popped in and out and I like what I see. I too would have to agree with dedgren (but would offer a potentially different solution). Instead of a slope mod (which is quite nice) you can also get away with a bridge height mod. I use the mod by joerg, which can be found here on the STEX (http://www.simtropolis.com/modding/index.cfm?p=details&id=314). I'll look forward to more.
Bat: Thank you. :) Btw, I just saw your avatar ... it's nice, although it scares me slightly. ;)
Heinz: Yeah ... I like Heinz. Good ketchup. ;) And much more concise than your ... username. :D
The docks I'm just fooling around with. I think I've decided to put the boardwalk in another area of that city, but that district remains under construction. I don't know where I'll go with it.
Pat: I'm glad you also like high living. :) See you at the Queer Steer for a beer. :D
Thundercrack: You're definitely right about the docks. :) Thanks for your reply. ;D
Dedgren: Not being a driver myself, I kinda like the idea of Evel Kneivel ramps. :) But of course, point taken. I've gone with the Bridge Height Mod. :)
By the way, don't feel shy about expressing yourself. Same goes for everybody. I don't get offended and I like hearing advice and other players' opinions. ;) I'm pleased you deign to share your thoughts with me.
Threestooges: Ok, I'm dying to ask; Larry, Moe or Curly? :P
Thanks for the link and reply. ;D

God, I'm tired. Just home from work. Twelve days out of thirteen! Whooo ... and I still have this cold ...
Anyway, I'm gonna go away from COV-COSSE and wait until I find my muse again with that city. I shall soak up the comments I've gotten about it and see what strikes me ...
But I think I will post some other shots from around the region ... there are so many other cities to show. ()stsfd()
Okay, some pics from the Deep South of my region. The city of Calcavecchia, to be exact.
Calcavecchia is part farming town, part seat of government. You know how all those US state capitals are away from the metropoles and located in small cities? That's kinda what I'm thinking here ... basically, the town is split in two. It also had to survive a major hurricane which devastated the cities of the South not long ago ... ;)
But it was rebuilt quickly and better than ever, I'd say ... the farming folk were the first to recover and that's what I'll spotlight here ...
Oh ... excuse the User Panel ;D

The area to the North of the farming region is more or less an entirely different city. High-wealth, low-density residential, and some developing commerce ... also, the Government Building, last seen somewhere in Germany ... ;)
I'll show that off next time, probably. :) See you later, folks, bedtime. ;)
Welcome to page 5!
wonderful rural area and great picture of it!
QuoteBtw, I just saw your avatar ... it's nice, although it scares me slightly.
Thanks, yours is also nice!
nice farming area you have there. the missile base in the middle of it? lol... hope it doesnt ruin the crops!
Your farming town of Calcavecchia looks pretty good! I love the ploppable streams that you meander from lake to lake. I do see a trend with some of your town and landmark names, though: I saw Zvonareva (tennis player Vera Zvonareva) in an earlier update and now Calcavecchia (golfer Mark Calcavecchia), which begs the question: Do you watch a lot of sports highlights? I love doing little things like that in my cities, too!
Well, to answer your question: Larry has his moments and has a way of helping accentuate the other two, Moe, though he is the "leader" of the group (if they can be lead), but doesn't quite do it. Shemp was always ok but Curly did his thing better. He had a good mix of everything, plus, no one has been able to match his "Woo! Woo! Woo!" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curly_Howard) in comedic situations. The farming area looks to be making a nice comeback, and if I see it correctly, there appears to be a hotel down there taking advantage of the quiet farm life and the nearby water way. Looking better and better each time.

I watch a lot of tennis. :) I'm not CRAZY about golf, but I will watch the Majors. I just like Mark's last name. ;)
You have to pluck all those names from somewhere, right? ;D

So, Curly, eh?
There IS a hotel down there ... looking to escape the city life? It's your destination. It's even far enough from the farms to avoid the ungodly stench of manure ... providing the wind is blowing the other way.
Say, did I mention the rooms which face the city are heavily discounted? ::)
how about o'meara, singh or woods? armour? michelson? els? lol. thought there was an update but decided to drop a line anyway. see you around, flipside. if i havent mentioned it yet, going through somewhere in your mind is always a treat. wouldnt like to buy those genetically modified foods (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genetically_modified_food) however

I do the same thing when I'm naming things within my city. I try to have themes for street names, parks, etc., depending on what it is I'm naming. Can't wait to see your next update, my friend!
Heinz: Els. Els should definitely appear in my region. "Els Elevated Rail". "Els Archipelago". Something like that. :)
Thundercrack: Wait no longer ...
I've been so busy lately! Haven't had time to do an update ... but I think I will do a little mini one for now. Let me showcase a city in the South (North of Calcavecchia though) - Artika.
Artika was totally destroyed by Hurricane X-Tina. It was in the past a thriving metropolis - X-Tina reduced it to rubble.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi122.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo261%2FLion_In_Winter%2FArtika%2FArtika-Apr-3.png&hash=d319b1f061340472a91eae481430a6d2192e439f)
There's many more pics of the disaster and the city before the disaster, but I'll get there later. That'll do for now.
This is just a taste of what the city looks like now. In some areas, the city fathers have purposely left signs of some of the destruction intact as a reminder. "File your taxes openly and honestly every year or hurricanes abound," they say ...

Two things in life are for sure, Robin. Death and taxes. ;D
Random thought: the game does air pollution back-to-front. A coal power plant is the smoggiest of the power plants (which is correct), yet it pales in comparison to some of the bigger dirty industries! In life, it's definitely the opposite. Coal-fired power plants are the major cause of global warming.
I think my region might bow to global warming fears and go nuclear in the near future. ;) My social conscience demands it. :D
Wow, that's a lot of hurricane damage! Funny how the government uses the fear of hurricanes as a means of getting people to pay their taxes. Great update!
great city! wonderful pictures!
Flip great last few updates. its scary to see that X-tina was a total devastion to the community but hey glad to see
the recovery is going pretty good compared to the RL recovery in the gulf coast - pat
Thundercrack: The city Fathers are a cynical sort ... the people are a gullible sort. ;)
Bat: You are too kind, my friend.
Pat: Naturally the recovery is going better: FEMA has had no role in it. ;D ::)
I'm going to do another update in a matter of minutes ... it's gonna be a little scattered and random ... showcasing some cities I haven't before ...
The people of Artika may be gullible, but they're not *that* acquiesant ...

Once upon a time, Somewhere in My Mind was ruled by a tyrant of great talent and fatal flaws. This is where he lived out his final years ... the lonely island of Saint Hell ...

It is said the isolation of the island drove him mad. Driven to daily stupors, he would do nothing but gaze at the windmill blades revolving, revolving whispering ... "Revolving, revolving ..."

Not *too* far from the loneliness of Saint Hell is the beautiful hamlet of Burning Bay.

The beauty of the redwood forests that once covered the area are still to be found ... in smaller doses, granted, but they are there ...
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi122.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo261%2FLion_In_Winter%2FBurning%2520Bay%2FBurningBay-Jan.png&hash=276e36e2359d60dd51443ca5f600af858ba214e9)
Lemantine Isle ... the farthest East of any of the land masses of SIMM. It was not discovered until well into the Age of Exploration ...
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi122.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo261%2FLion_In_Winter%2FLemantine%2520Isle%2FLemantineIsle-Sep.png&hash=94055733dffc091ff6a0ed1db29dd8d4739bcab2)
Here too one can find beautiful redwood forest ... much more than remains amidst the concrete and wood and steel of Burning Bay ...
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi122.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo261%2FLion_In_Winter%2FLemantine%2520Isle%2FLemantineIsle-Aug.png&hash=09dc92d26367d52a846e92d5ed638cfe9bb62531)
One can also see rhodedendrons. They grow in abundance in the Isle (which really should be "Isles", but the explorers named it in ignorance of the surrounding islets - or the Mayor missed a key on his keyboard, whichever you choose to believe ;)).
The settlers set up a fort upon arrival ...
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi122.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo261%2FLion_In_Winter%2FLemantine%2520Isle%2FLemantineIsle-Dec.png&hash=989f713144bf01b424b8dd9e3a274523bedb1f72)
But it never proved very profitable. The Isle's semi-famous "Scent of Rhodedendron" cologne never made much of an impact ...
The fort was abandoned in short order, but now a few scientists populate the Isle, doing important research into the feasibility of solar power ...
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi122.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo261%2FLion_In_Winter%2FLemantine%2520Isle%2FLemantineIsle-Dec-1.png&hash=14bed774234723303ece2a71d962833559fbd39e)
That's everything for now. :) More to come in the coming days and weeks, of course. $%Grinno$%

LoL Flip thank god FEMA hasnt touched it at all as we all know
how well it has worked before in the past lol
great update here and man St Hell dont look that bad lol - pat
Pat: Saint Hell is like jail; nice place to visit, but you wouldn't want to live there. ;D ;)
Bat: Thank you, Bat!
Thundercrack: More is coming in the near future. :) Thanks fo stoppin' by.
One thing I should throw out there to you folks - my Artika Mayor Rating! That came about not after the disasters destroyed the city, but actually after I rebuilt it a bit and knocked down a bunch of low-income towers to relocate the residential elsewhere. I've never actually had a totally negative Mayor Rating before! But I guess the Sims of that city had only a limited patience for the mayor's bulldozing whims ... it just plunged after that ...
It's a bit odd since the city's other numbers (Health, Education, Safety, etc.) are pretty good (not great, but certainly not horribly awful as the Rating suggests). Anybody have this happen?
The Rating has recovered a tiny bit since, but it still deeply in the red zone. game quirk, or ... ???
I said there's more - there is. ;D
City of the Vanished, City of the Salt Springs Eternal.

I really like the finished product, for whatever reason. That's a city with character, if you ask me. ;)
The city of Aravan to the extreme West of the region ... one might say it is Somewhere in My Mind's answer to Jerusalem, or Mecca or Medina, or Paris, Texas, etc,. ::) It is the place where holy Sims go to pray for their neighbours and thank their ever-lovin' Mayor ... I mean, God, for all they have. A beautiful thing, really.

The word on the street is that the Old Cathedral you see there will soon be augmented by several other structures of goodwill and piety. ;)
Not far South of Aravan is Awning Drip - an aspiring boomtown. The city fathers have been angling to secure an airport which would connect the Western cities with the rest of the region. So far they have been unsuccessful ... but they have a nice little downtown seen at night. ;)

And there is no weakness in the industrial sector, either ...

More later, Gators. :P
Great update ;) I like

Great update, Flipside! Your downtowns look great, and I love the cathedral, too! And you're correct, there is no weakness in the industrial sector. I'll be looking forward to more, my friend!

Thank you for comin' by, Snaper!
You're right about the, ahem, penultimate image. ;D I just let Maxis run wild with that city; I haven't exactly sculpted it to a tee. Just thought that the night shot looked nice.
Thundercrack: I'm happy you like it!!! ;D
The mining town of Mansfield-upon-Dervish ... maybe one day it'll spawn a poet or two ... ;)

Mmm, industry. ::)
Wow....that was a lot of pictures. I just noticed in the last few pictures, you don't use a slope modd. Your rail tracks look like a roller coaster. LOL None the less great update.
Robin

No, no slope modd. Have never investigated the question either. In real life, rail tracks go up and down hills, make turns, all that. I didn't think the tracks I do deviate too far from reality.
Nice Update, but
PS: I would turn off these U-Drive it buttons ;)

I love this MD! Flipside, you've got a casual and laid back approach that really adds to the ambiance here. Your interaction with your readers is really great, too. The MD equivalent of a good time!
Just a few more page views, and it's on to the Best Sellers. See you over there.

No idea, Pat! It's working for me! Maybe when you were lookin' my page view allotment from photobucket had run out for the month. :-[
David: Thanks for the kind remarks. What can I say ... I GET LETTERS! :P I like to hear what people are REALLY thinking, so it's nice that so many have unburdened themselves of their thoughts and advice in this thread. ()stsfd()
I've had to neglect SimCity and this site the last little while. I've been working a lot! In a few weeks, I'll have more time, I'm sure. Then I'll have another update. Until then!
