Title: Street Mods & Black Holes
Post by: HandsOn on April 20, 2008, 04:45:16 AM
Despite the subject line, the two are unrelated:

First off, how can I get rid of the unsightly black lines around road tunnel entrances? And secondly, is there a combination of street/roadside mods that will avoid what the second picture shows? Swamper77's uni mod does not seem to do it, although it is the last one too load? I'd like to keep the rural sidewalk dirt, but in urban zones I would prefer if the red stuff would not appear. If that is at all possible.

Thanks, again, folks..

I have no idea regarding the road tunnels, I've never had that problem myself. Perhaps it's your graphic settings?
There's a few mods that make the sidewalks have the same looks in all wealth-levels and zonages, but these are not compatible with Jeronij's Street Side Mod (i think, i'm not that sure).

The first image is a result of the Euro Road Mod.

For the second, I can make a mod so all of your sidewalks appear as dirt.

The game uses four different images for its sidewalks:

- a dirty looking one for low wealth areas
- a clean looking one for medium wealth areas
- a fancy looking one for high wealth areas.
- a dirt texture for farming/landfill areas and under railroad tracks.

I see that you are using Jeronij's sidewalk textures, so I can easily make a mod for it to display his dirt textures under all of your roadways. However, you will have to remove it if you wish to build an urban or suburban city, as dirt sidewalks will look strange there.

The black lines shouldn't appear around the tunnel entrance. Maybe you have an outdated version of the Euro Road Textures Mod installed?

Swamper: Yes, I had that when I used PEG's MTP sidewalk mod; however, I tend to build large cities that have different mixes - like a town that has a farming community on one site of the river but a growing urban commercial center on the other side. Having dirt sidewalks there looks decidedly odd. I'm fine with most of that pic, except the bloody red sidewalks, I was hoping to lose them. Then I'd rather have a mod that makes all sidewalks medium, or clean, since I tend to intersperse farms with clusters of small shops or houses.

Andreas: I take it I have to download the latest version from SimCity Plaza - I am sure I never updated that one..

Thanks, guys..

Yes, you can download the latest version either from the LEX or SimCityKurier - or wait a bit, since I have another version in the works. :)

Jeronijs Mod includes instructions in the readme on removing the sidewalks which will leave you with the default ones.  That way, no red.

::) Zo, mah Jerman friend, you haf a new wersion in ze works, eh? What will it do? Build us the proverbial yellow brick road? Seriously though, I'll get the current, then update. What would be neat in a new streetside mod would be a true zone-based sidewalk that would include whatever you plop in that zone, rather than a street/road/avenue-based mod: that way farming zones retain dirt shoulders, industrial stay plain & dirty, a.s.o...

Ah, but I am dreaming..

PS: The update fixed the black holes and did indeed get rid of the blood-red sidewalks (probalby made in Brooklyn or Queens), but now, of course, there is no more dirt shoulder around the farms streets and roads...oh well..
