Title: Dr. Watson: The case of the invisible lot..
Post by: HandsOn on April 23, 2008, 05:06:50 PM
%wrd Here I go AGAIN: Clearly, I need a private Master/Mistress Holmes! I created five 2x3 ploppable lots, two of which are transit-enabled for rail. Because I am a lazy sod, I tend to use the first lot, change things around, then do a save as (and subsequently use SC4T or the Reader to alter names, etc.); repeat for the rest! Besides, this makes it easier to align stuff like fences et al.

Both TE lots have Transport/Rail as OccupantTypes. Since I based these on someone else's 1x1 lot (no worries, won't ever appear anywhere but here), the lots have jobs - great, after all they are construction sites.

Here's the rub, cher Holmes: of the five only three appear in the correct menu, 2 non-TE and one TE. Everything appears  to be right - but what do I know (apparently not enough).

And while I am on the tricky subject of TE (must stand for Trail & Error!): how do I get my hands on the right file that will permit diagonal rail transit? Plus (and now I am pushing my luck), I am looking for oversized textures, or an idea on how to make them..

After this I'll probably be demoted to Stranger or Supreme Nuisance..  %wrd

If by oversized you mean overhanging, you can't.  You would need to do a prop with the texture you want on there for this to work.

It was late when I wrote this, I meant textures as a props, of course..

The menu placement is controlled by Occupant Group (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=2378.0) values.
Here's a summary of those needed for menu placement:

Right, I read, printed, and applied the excellent page you created elsewhere  in fact, it is lying on the right of the keyboard even now. And the lots all have that. So, is there something else that influences whether or not a lot appears at all..?

Those that are not appearing in correct menus, are they appearing elsewhere, or are they missing completely?

Missing completely.. &mmm

Edit: This just in: when I open the file in the Reader I can list and edit, but I get this strange message (see pic)..

Edit 2: SC4Tool, equally opens it, but now can no longer save it..

Then there is no straight answer. Any modding error might remove it from the menu...

The DecodeLD (size > 255) error comes from the LD file.
Try pressing the "Apply" button and saving. Hopefully that would fix it.

Nah, I think this is a lost cause - I just crashed LE trying to reopen the file. I'll just have to start from scratch. No biggie - it's just a frustrating. Maybe if someone made a "slope mod" I could apply to my brain to ease the all too steep learning curve..??   %confuso

Am still looking for the diagonal pathing fix, though..  ()what()

Then delete the LD file in Reader! It will be recreated when saving the lot in LE.

I think that would require custom paths, which is something only the NAM team members are used to dealing with.

Ah, so I am asking for the impossible again..

But back to the topic: deleting the LD file did not help. But I am looking into other possibilities. Maybe too late to ask here, but another lot I did create succesfully - my very first (almost) own train station has an odd problem. It is correctly TE-ed, at least it connects & gives stats, however, every train that hits it immediatley disappears!??! How come? I did set the transit switches for Peds in & out, trains in & out, cars, etc. - you get the picture. So where did I go wrong?
