No, this is not an April fools that arrived a bit late, but the
Network Addon Mod is celebrating its
4th birthday today! The NAM Team has been working hard over the last few weeks, and we were able to compile a
new version of the largest and most popular mods for SimCity 4. :) It includes some exciting new stuff, as well as updates of popular items, lots of visual improvements and countless bugfixes (for a complete list, see below).
As usual, please read the included readme file first, otherwise, things might go wrong. It is highly advised to uninstall your current NAM version, since lots of things have changed. For this, you can either use the uninstall feature, or the included BSC Cleanitol file. Here's a list of changes:
- Double-height Elevated Rail and Monorail puzzle pieces have been added.
- GLR bridge has been added.
- New GLR-in-Avenue puzzle pieces have been added, including Avenue Roundabout with GLR crossing.
- New Rail Viaduct puzzle pieces have been added.
- Diagonal Highway on-slope puzzle pieces have been added, existing on-slope puzzle pieces have been revamped to eliminate shadow bug.
- All overpasses have been modified to eliminate the color shift of the network that crosses under another (both Maxis and custom overpasses).
- Elevated Rail to GLR transition has been improved visually.
- Double-decker puzzle pieces have been improved visually.
- Elevated Rail and Monorail over Elevated Highway overpasses have been improved visually.
- Various other overpasses and puzzle pieces have been improved visually.
- Diagonal Highway shift by one tile is now possible.
- Oneway-Road arrow removal plugin has been updated.
- Custom Menu plugins have been added to reorder icons in Rail and Misc Transportation menu.
- A new set of Traffic Simulator (Traffic Plugin) files have been added, outdated Traffic Plugin files have been removed.
- A variety of RUL, texture and pathing errors have been fixed.
- NAM Controller contains RULs for updated RHW (Rural Highway mod), updated SAM (Street Addon Mod) and new HSR (High Speed Rail) plugins (released separately).

Happy Birthday NAM
Thank you for the present.
Great work from the NAM team as always.. one suggestion though.. The download file should be renamed to represent the proper version of the contents instead of the"generic" name.. it should have the version in the name.. such as NAM 4-2008 Setup.zip or something along that line.. the exact name is not important, but the concept of having the version CLEARLY OBVIOUS without opening the .zip file at all.. I recognize that there are other ways to tell, so please don't bother replying with a list of them.. :) The key is a person should know the version by looking at the filename.. a protocol followed on most software packages of any responsible release.. This is being picky I know, but it is just good practice. All other aspects of the package are done so professionally that is makes this little thing stand out.. Again.. GREAT WORK &apls
Happy Birthday NAM!!!!
Just a thought but aren't WE suppose to get YOU presents not the other way Around???
LOL just kidding, We are not worthy but we will use this with great respect!!

Happy Birthday to NAM
As it is a long weekend here (ANZAC Day), and the file being rather largeish, I'll have to get it on Monday :P
After which I'll play around with it
My question is: when I go to the the link...there's a statement that I downloaded this already, back in 2007...why am I getting this message? If this is a new product, shouldn't it have a new link? Just wondering! Thanks for the gifts!!

The people have spoken: "We want four more years of NAM!!!!"
Congratulations, NAM Team, on 4 years of awesome!
hapybirthday, and congratz ;D &hlp
My best guess is that if Santa lives at the North Pole, producing gifts the whole year, and distributing them at the date of the bith of Jesus, the NAM Team has a comparable workshop at the South Pole, distributing its gifts at the date of the birth of the NAM. ;)
This is a rather slanted take on birthday presents eh?

Seriously I remember seeing this on the simtropolis nam development thread about 3 years ago (as I remember the pic was posted by teiresu in 2004), I can't believe it actually got done!
I'd like to second that "WOW!". I just downloaded the newest version, but don't really have time to play with it just yet, as I have to go to work. After seeing this picture, however, I think I'll call in sick tonight. This is uber-cool! Thanx NAM team.
Happy birthday! You ar the best
Thank you for the GLR Bridge and roundabout!
Holy cow! I played with the higher puzzle pieces and new GLR stuff last night but completely missed this...
Great work!

Happy Birthday NAM TEAM!!!
This is AWESOME!!! Even though I'm 1 day late on the download, this made my day! ^_^
I can't wait to start playing around with these things... But I have to finish sorting my plugins folder after installing alot (most, hopefully) of the CAMeLot model files for the CAM lots I have currently... >_>
Hey, why wasn't gradual highway curves included in the description? I think its a major addition!

This is wild! It's amazing how a community of modders have managed to add so much to the game that should've been there in the first place.
Anyways, I was wondering where I could get a version of the RHW compatible with this NAM.
prince1142003, to answer your question, the current version of the RHW (Version 20) will still actually work with the April 2008 NAM without any issues. There is a new update, Version 20a, which will be released shortly, though.

Well, I could say it was an additional hidden gift, but I simply forgot to include it into the list... ;) Anyway, thanks for the congrats, folks, much appreciated. It was quite a bit of hard work to get everything done but we managed to finish the new version just in time - the last changes were made only minutes before the release. :)

It's the only thing that can pull me away from a Sims kick if I happen to tire of SC4. Luckily my new laptop is such an improvement over my past computer that playing the game is much more enjoyable, even before a new NAM comes out.
I downloaded this yesterday and tested it (its april 26 here now, it came out on april 25 my time) and it is ABSOLUTELY SPIFFING!! I love the way, when you check the NAM threads, you see a whole lot of cool stuff, and when it comes out, you get that and more, especially at a time when you are least expecting it!
Happy Birthday, and thankyou!
First of all, Happy 4th Birthday. Second of all thank you to everyone who has added their effort to this endeavor. I'm looking forward to putting this version through its paces. Thanks again for all your work.

Another thing: I love the new GRL-Avenue double network pieces. They're great!
They make it so much easier to make junctions and ends now! ;D
I love these El-Rail pieces!! But why they come always out when I'm on Duty? :'( I can't wait to play with!!!

I just checked the link in the first post on this thread... It is working fine for me.
@rusummer1 and anyone else unfamiliar, Heres the thing, the download button doesn't show unless you are logged into the bsc exchange. So you could be logged into the forums, you click on the link, but the download button is missing, it is because for what ever reason, the exchange is seperate from the forums, and requires another login to be able to see a download button. Other than that, I don't know how this problem would exist.

Haven't had the time to use this, but of course: thanks in advance. It will probably be even more perfect (can something be beter than perfect?) than the older version.
I have no words to really thank you. Just: thank you!
One small thing though: everytime I install a new version of NAM I seem to have forgotten which pathfinding and capacity setting I used... So I hope I installed the same version as before. Stupid of me of course.
Could it be possible to put the Euro road textures into the NAM?

Given that there are new pathfinding plugins etc this time around I would suggest you have a quick read up on them and then install one of them. But you should also be able to go to your existing NAM folder and check which one you already have. They are named quite well. You can keep this by copying and pasting it back in after you install the New NAM.

This is kept as a seperate download for a couple of reasons. Not everyone wants it, and to keep the main NAM file size down.

As I was installing and paying attention to the pup ups telling me what is what, I noticed that the A & B mods have switched the easy and hard options. In the NAM pathfinding update the easy mods had more capacity and now the hard mods have the most capacity. Or have I read the pop ups for the options wrong? I installed the hard A mod which said it had the most capacity, I hope that's right.
Well, the easy one is supposed to have the highest capacity, and the hard one the least . . .
Edit: Just checked the installer. It seems the descriptions aren't exactly accurate. ::) In terms of Simulators A and B, in order of lowest-to-highest capacity, it's Hard, Medium, then Easy.
-Alex (Tarkus)
Thanks Tarkus, thought I was getting loopy. I'll redo the installation, no biggie.
BTW - Thanks for a great mod.

Yeah, I messed up the descriptions in the installer accidentially, sorry about that. &ops Of course, "easy" has a much higher capacity, as stated in the readme.

Im not entirely sure what this one is. Sounds like a texture change you have downloaded which is similar to the Zebra Textures. But if it is in the Cleanitol it is probably included in the NAM Installer or is a conflicting file of some sort.
This is the mod, Crosswalks Pattern Mod. I was reading the RHW thread and was also wondering if it would be a good idea to delete my NAM folder then install the new NAM then the RHW, moving my bridges to a temp place in the mean time.

hi all, first i would like to say happy birthday to the NAM Team.. thanks for the great additions to sc4..
honestly, i don't know which is the better place to put this question, so here it goes..
i have downloaded the latest NAM (April 2008), and i love the double height elevated networks.. however, i couldn't find the double height elevated heavy rail.. is it not included in the latest NAM? if not, would it be possible to add it in the next NAM?
thank you all..
There is no double height elevated heavy rail (yet). ;)
I've figured out that pesky 1 pixel offset problem. All I had to do was rotate or flip my NAM IIDed textures properly.
before and after:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg365.imageshack.us%2Fimg365%2F5035%2F20080814004404ar0.th.jpg&hash=2c9260a2ba98093966be780283b57586144e2e84) (http://img365.imageshack.us/img365/5035/20080814004404ar0.jpg)(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg179.imageshack.us%2Fimg179%2F9431%2F20080814141919ej5.th.jpg&hash=5e8ee6bdeddaf6862a4bfa064486e53cb34052e8) (http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/9431/20080814141919ej5.jpg)
My only question now is is there something in the NAM DAT files that defines the rotation of the pieces to be something other than what the 0,0 position of the maxis roads are? The NAM textures that are off by 1 pixel (like the 2 road tiles north of the intersection in first pic) are being rotated or flipped. The road being 79 pixels wide and not possible to center properly on a tile that is an even number of pixels across is why you get the misalignment... it's my opinion that the roads should be made to be 80 pixels wide (@ 128x128) and streets, OWR, whatever should all be made an even number of pixels wide to avoid anymore 1 pixel offset issues. Regular road textures are all I've looked into I'm not sure if this issue exists in other transit textures or not.
I'm wondering asking about the rotation. I don't think we've messed with that, but it's relative to the direction of dragging, not to the game world.
And yes, the 1 tile problem is across all the road networks except for the Ave due to its dual nature. Streets and OWR do have the problem.
Well, Maxis screwed up the textures badly by making them one pixel too narrow (or too wide, if you like). I think frimi tried to fix it in some cases with his Euro Road Textures Mod, but since there are way too many textures, and too many intersection textures in particular, only a complete rework of all textures would fix the issue once and for all... As Diggis said, it also depends on the direction how you draw the roads, since the game rotates all textures itself, so you only need one texture for all possibilities (i. e. a single street intersection in eastern/western/northern/southern direction).
Quote from: Andreas on August 14, 2008, 01:41:06 PMAs Diggis said, it also depends on the direction how you draw the roads, since the game rotates all textures itself
It's been my
understanding assumption that the 0, 0 position texture up = north or west in the game but I lean towards north. These pics show what I mean I think.

No, 0,0 is the default direction of the texture, relevant to the direction of dragging. If you drag a road piece of road and then drag another straight into it from the other direction you will see the 1 pixel overlap.
For the sake of convenience, also, I'd suggest using the colour palette of the default Maxis textures, otherwise it'll look odd when the new textures are slightly 'off' colour-wise from the old.
