Title: rural residential lots-'Developments'
Post by: mthdscrd on May 21, 2008, 11:18:50 AM
So i want to make sure i communicate this correctly-low density residential lots (growable) that are at least 10x10 and include 5 or 6 (or 10 or 20...) homes that share a common drive.
Where I live farm after farm is selling their fields to developers and it would be fun to translate that real world activity to the game...

I have to ask you, if you are able to first draw these zones that are beyond normal in game limitation size. Unintentially I had gotten growable neighborhood lots where houses were on both sides of a street. Simgoober has made all sorts of modern day residential, complete with full neighborhoods that have a common drive which helt 4 random growing houses on it, but they were scaled different, realistically they were more detailed to real life, some with giant acres of property. I think its possible to make a bigger growable lot, with a decorative drive in it. From what I have seen, when zoning low wealth to get bigger growing areas, you have to hold control while zoning and it has to have only one street or road in front, nothing in back or on the sides, then you have a nice big zone space and since the developers didn't fill a number of residential lots, it should be easy for someone to make a big lot. I have seen alot of custom residential lots grow better than the original in game ones. I'm going to see if 10x10 growable residential with outboundry lines in between is possible, never tried it, but can zone it. Here is proof. In previous SimCity games, you could do this without the streets getting drawn between, but they changed it for 4, a growable residential lot would need to be made to fill this. When you say farm after farm selling fields, I kind of have that happen in my game, except with farm fields left abandoned and me having to rezone for new 1 or 2 car garage subdivisions and/or townhouses.

so how about higher stage farms that actually look and act more like low density high wealth residential?

well you actually can do that at game, just put some farming around and develop some homes next to, use a dirty SAM texture to make an access to that residentials....

You can also just zone houses on top of existing farm fields. I've been able to do it. Just remember, any schools will prevent farm growth.

If you hold down the control button, you can zone a single large tile of Residential or Commercial. So a single, 10x10 res lot can be made, but will only grow if there is something to grow in it.
