so far I have a motherboard, AMD processor dual core 5000+ and 2 gigs of ddr2-800, still have to decide on the screen and videocard, so I thought I'd turn to fellow fans of my favorite game for advice/ideas..... :)
Widescreen works fine with SC4. I play on a laptop with a 15.4" widescreen monitor @ 1280x800 resolution (the max for that screen). You need to tell SC4 what your resolution is or your SC4 image will be "stretched" in in one direction. This thread (link) (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=3683.0) has info on how to do that.
As for video cards all I can say is my GeForce 8600 M GT (256 MB) has no problems with SC4.

ah thanks, a widescreen it will be then. As for a videocard, I was eyeing a GeForce 8400 256mb, which is cheap now, but should do fine for the game? (I don't play demanding games besides SC4). Also, I heard that ATI cards can have trouble with sc4, is this true?
thats true, ATI cards have trouble with SC4
the 8400 is a good choice, if you dont want to play games much, it will handle SC4 perfectly. i personally have a 8600GTS and works fine for most new games, at max and 1680x1050 res.
thanks, hmmm I guess I've made my choices then :)
ATI has issues with SC4? I never had any issue with mine - and its a x200 in my laptop. The only issues I have is that I dont have enough RAM - one gig I've realized is too little for the monster that SC4 is.
I run SC4 at 1920x1080 on a 47" Vizio HDTV through a pretty generic 256 Mb ATI Radeon X800 card. It. Is. Marvelous!

if you really wanna multi task i also suggest putting SC4 in windows mode as well and hook up another monitor to your PC rig. that way you can still have SC4 playing without minimizing and chat with your buddies and also surf the web on the other window. dual monitor setup is the way to go! when i play SC4 i have it running on my other screen while i have my other screen for surfing, chatting, listening to music, etc

47" my gawd! I was thinking of a 24 inch and thought even that would be too much for the game. Also a friend of mine suggested that SC4 would be troubling my computer render-wise. I might go with an ATI card after all hearing you guys have no trouble with it...

I haven't been thinking about a dual monitor set up, so you just put a thought into my head!
