Is this the right area to post questions relating to jeronij's work?
Anyway, I have been dabbling in making rivers (which run down mountain slopes) using "JRJ Water Drop" from jeronij's Rural Culvert and Water Effects set (at least I believe that is where it is from). Trouble is, I do this on tiles where cities are being developed, and it appears having a 30ish amount of Water Drops on a tile significantly impacts SC4 performance, and mostly so when the simulation is running: slow and choppy scrolling, automata moving jerkily, SC4 taking t-i-m-e to draw lots and worst of all, the simulation itself runs much slower than usual (especially on the fastest setting).
Bulldozing most of the Water Drops restores game performance. But I don't want to do that. I like my mountain streams, and they are needed to feed my hydro dams. Thus my question is, is there a workaround or fix which allows me to both keep the Water Drops and retain normal (for me) game performance?
PPS: This is on a Intel Core2 Duo 2GHz/2 GB RAM/WinXP/GeForce 8600(M) GT @1280x800 resolution, should imho be able to handle SC4.
yes there is you have to terraform with the mayor mode tools in steps but quite far apart enabling more of a rush looking rapids but using very few water drops,i have done a rapids river using only a few.the terraforming is very tedious but excellent results.i use his effects and culverts all the time in my cjs.
sorry if i wasnt supposed to reply to this i couldnt resist
Excellent answser Jacqui
Unassigned, those are Maxis effects, and they do consume really much computer resources. The only solution I found is the one Jacqulina posted. Try to keep the number of lots to the smallest possible ;)
...and indeed it was some post of jacqulina's which led this newbie to the Water Drop, that and her astounding waterfall pictures. Thanks jacqulina and jeronij, I understand that it is necessary to minimise the number of water drop lots.
I will think of a suitable area on the forums to display my work in progress and ask for comments and suggestions.
thankyou and your very welcome
FYI the rivers which caused my issue are shown here (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=4913.0) .
heres a couple of examples of using less water drops.this is the result you can get if you take your time my friend.
