Title: Here's a silly question..
Post by: HandsOn on June 08, 2008, 06:35:19 PM
Everyone is really into the realism of SC4 but there is one item that seems to have fallen by the way-side: just how old - in Sim Years - is your mayor by now? 100? 200?

Thus my question: is there a way - without editing exemplars or LD's or what not - to change a mayor's name after it's time to put the old fool to the pasture? I am actually quite serious about this (hidden agenda lurks  :P ). Same question for the town's name. And might there be consequences to such a change?

It's fairly easy, Maxis included cheats to do both of them.  Just press ctrl-alt-shift-x to bring up the thingamagiger(it's got a name, I don't remember it) to enter codes into.  whererufrom followed by a space and the new name will change the city name.  hellomynameis is the one for the mayor name.

Thanks, Chris. The easy stuff is always the hardest. Now all I need to know if this can also be done programatically, i.e. via some file or another..

Well, that would be way over my head.

Why?  It's easily doable ingame.  A file is unncessary.

Diggis - I do have an ultirior motive for this question; doesn't have to be a file, as long as it can be done programatically - but it seems that may not be possible..  :'(

Well it will probably be stored in the city file... quite simple really. but the reading of said file is (last time i read that thread) still unknown, the thread is somewhere around.

It's in the RegionView exemplar (TGI 0xCA027EDB, 0xCA027EE1, 0x00000000) of the Savegame file.

What is known of it today, can be found here:

Thanks Tage. This is what I was hoping for. It'll be an interesting read.
