Title: Problems with Installation
Post by: quackmofro on June 09, 2008, 11:45:17 AM
Hey, guys, I'm having a baffling problem with installing SC4 that hopefully you can help me with.

I want to install the game again so I can play it some more. I have the 2-disc deluxe edition. I insert disc 1, and the installation proceeds as it should. At ~48-49%, the installer instructs me to insert disc 2. I do that, but when I press "OK", the message pops up again. I keep doing that, but it seems that the disc is not getting recognized, and eventually the disc drive stops as if it's not reading it anymore. This is really frustrating, as I want more than anything to get back into SC4. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.  ()what()

If you have the standard window dialog which prompt you the path of the second disc, either remove or add the / at the end

Unfortunately, it doesn't prompt me for the path of the disc. It gives me a plain dialog that says "Insert Disk 2" with two buttons.

I tried turning off AutoPlay on the drive because I heard that recommended for two-disc installations, but that didn't work either.

run regedit, find the MAxis key in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Maxis\SimCity 4, and remove anything below it, try reinstalling

I looked at that, there are no keys for it in there. I'm thinkin it's a problem with my drive.

Its not your problem alone. I thought EA admitted this mistake, and said you had to wait over 60 seconds at least to proceed. As soon as it told me to put disc 2 in, and I did, it didn't recognize it at first, this was untill I learned about that info that it then seemed to work, but I think the website is outdated now.
