I just uninstalled SC4 Deluxe with the intention of reinstalling. When I put the disk in, it autoruns. I am able to press Install, but then the installer crashes, and asks me to send an error report. Like I said, I just uninstalled it, so I have had it working. I have checked the registry and program files for any trace of SC4, but I cannot find any remnants on my computer of it. I tried cleaning the disk, no luck there, but it does not seem like it is dirty anyway. Thoughts?
Thank you.
I have had experienced exactly what happened to you. However, setup never worked on mine entirely, and the result was I had to manually install the rest of the game. There is something wrong with the installation programming. For some reason the game couldn't figure out what it was doing wrong and then gives up. I already knew that was going to happen because alot of Sim related games, the developers do not seem that smart programming the setup, especially when they make games in this franchise requiring more than one disc, thus resulting in patches for later, so people will forget about the flaws. With that in mind, I took the dat files from the discs, and put them in their place in the programs folder, rather than full installation. After some of it installed, but the rest crashed, I was able to install it manually, because this was after the point it asks you the secret code. I eventually got it to work by figuring out what missing dat files were needed so the game would start and not crash. Would you be able to do that, or does it act up before you punch in the serial?
No, I don't even get that far. How depressing...
Unfortanetly, that may mean an issue possibly because of the disc. Would you be able take the files from the disc, without going into setup, and copy the files EP1, file list, graphic rules, video cards, and SimCity_1 through 5 dat into where they originally were?
I am not sure where the files belong --- can you spoon feed me through a manual install?
Thanks :)
Ok, I have Vista, so your gonna have to bear with me from this image below SC4 in help. See the files? Those files I have in red are most important. The folders from your version of the game should be there already, discluding the Lot Editor, unless you got that later. If this doesn't work, let me know.
When I attempt a copy (dragging Disk 1's contents into Program files), I get "Cannot copy Slide_000: Data Error (cyclic redundancy check)."
I've gotten this error many times. ::) It, almost always, ended up that either the disk or drive was bad/failing.
