Hi,
is there a tutorial on creating regions with DEM data?
I think this is what you are looking for

Hello, RickyD.
There are a couple of articles in the OmniMaps - Mapping and Terraforming Information (http://www.simtropolis.com/forum/categories.cfm?catid=141) section of the Simtropolis Omnibus that you might want to read through:
How To Make Scale Accurate Realistic Regions from USGS Data (http://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=141&threadid=76684&enterthread=y)
Custom Terrains and Using USGS Data (http://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=141&threadid=76310&enterthread=y)
Maps: The Sea Level Problem with USGS Data (http://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=141&threadid=76308&enterthread=y)
MallowTheCloud started a tutorial on making maps from DEM data but I don't believe it is complete. Nonetheless, you might be able to get some ideas from it:
Making Accurate-Scale Real-World Maps (http://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=120&threadid=81562&enterthread=y)
Finally, you might want to look through the Mapping Applications and Mapping Tools (http://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=141&threadid=103573) article for DEM sources and related software.
Good luck.
Regards,
Gary (Vandy)
