Title: farm fields and Chelsea Mill
Post by: snorrelli on August 14, 2008, 12:48:46 PM
Hi folks... Two issues have been bugging me recently. I wonder if anyone can help...

First, I've noticed that the CAM farms have a tendency to generate this issue:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg167.imageshack.us%2Fimg167%2F7112%2F38364097wn2.jpg&hash=0b2a0c5d79ece9066452b6e993978f8f49692966)

You'll notice that two stage 6 farms have grown right next two each other, on the same IR zone, with no corresponding fields. I never have any other farms grow without fields and never have two buildings grow on the same zone except the CAM ones...   %confuso

Then, this one looks like a texture conflict. Any suggestions?

I reduced your picture size a bit, just in order to help those who do not have as wide a monitor as you do... ::)

You obviously don't have all the fields packs, Patrick, specifically BSC Farm Fields - BLS Vol04 (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=951)
I'll have to have a look at the Chelsea Mills lot so will get back to you on that one.

Thanks, Barby, but... I do have it... ()what()

Looks like that one has 5 files - wildflowersforest, sand, and forest1, 2 and 3. I think you'll find them all in the list...

Besides - missing the fields wouldn't explain why there are two growing on the same zone... ???

Yes it would as that only happens if fields referenced in the farm lot are missing. I have an apology, however, as it seems I have not posted some of Colyn's fields &ops and they are needed for these. I shall post them as soon as possible.

Posted (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1740). Sorry about that and it is amazing no one else has reported this.

I've had the same problem but I thought it was supposed to be like that for some reason or another.... Thank god I am not lossing my crackers here lol....  A fix that I would do for it is just divide the area and then plop some fields, thank you goddess so that I no longer need to do that!!!!

Thanks, Barby. Got it. Any ideas on the Chelsea Mill?

I was also having the field problem, and was sure there was a pack out there that was eluding me! Thank you Barby!

I'm finding CAM farming really hard, the only ones I've gotten have been on a medium tile 2 tiles away from a big tile of 1.1 million. Finding the right balance is tricky. I'd welcome any advice on this!

Thanks
Kendra

Hello Owlsinger. . .  Are you having problems with farming in general or are you having a difficult time growing stage 5,6, or 7's ?

Getting to stage 4s is no problem, I really enjoy it! It's introducing industry & commercial to get higher that is a struggle for me.

Hello Owlsinger  ;D

Take a look at this thread.  Click Here (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=3578.0)  About half way down.

First - it's difficult mathematically to grow stage 6 and 7 farms so you're not going to get a bunch of them. I can say that I have only every grown about half dozen stage 6 farms ... tops ... in the past year. Stage 5's are exasperating at times for me as I have those neat hydroponic greenhouses and I hardly see those myself. But - oh - the sense of accomplishment.

You may get a clue as to where your game needs to go (above link) after reading through the Stage Limits thread and the agriculture paragraph.

For me? It's the way I play the game. My favorite region is a 2X2 grid of large cities. It's a quick way to play. Farm city, farm city, farm city, large big modern city then I'm done. Hardly enough space to achieve the industrial capacity needed for stage 6 or 7 farms. I'm thinking a 4X4 grid of large cities would be minimum.

Maybe you can do a city journal?  ;)  I am more than a little interested in your region and if you achieve your goal

Thank you for pointing me back to the Cam manual .. I should've thought to go back & study that myself!

I have flirted with the idea of a CJ......hmm, working title 'A City Girl Goes Rural'!!! (I grew up in Queens thinking cows lived in the basement of the A&P, and lobsters grew in barrels!  ;D ). An excellent idea, thanks for the inspiration! I'll get to work on it right away!

&idea

p.s. I love looking at your hydroponics at night!

OK - so I've at least identified what the textures should be. They're from JB_GE_BaseTextures.dat. Specifically, textures FB745125, 130, 135 and 140. When I open them with the SC4Tool texture scanner they look fine, but in LE (and in the game) they show up as pictured above. My inexpert knowledge of how this works tells me I have conflicting textures that load after the BSC Textures folder. How can I pinpoint the offender more exactly?

EDIT: Aha - by using "search ID," it seems the offender is jes_AcmeWidgetTextures.dat.

I have asked geoffhaw to check on this.

Thanks Patrick for spotting this.

For the moment, both Chelsea Mills and AcmeWidgetManufacturing files have been locked.  I'll speak to both JBSimio and Jestarr to try and sort it out.

The texture IIDs in jes_AcmeWidgetTextures.dat have been changed to avoid the conflict, and the download updated.

Both files have now been unlocked.

Sorry that I didn't see this thread sooner.  Thanks to Geoffhaw and Jestarr for the quick fixes.  (I'd claim some credit if I could... but apparently I wasn't even needed for this one!  :P)
