Title: BLS Barby's Lot Studio
Post by: BarbyW on February 24, 2007, 03:15:26 PM
As you may know I pillage BATs from other people to make lots. ;D I have no talent whatsoever with BAT so rely on my friends to provide me with goodies to play with.
First up is a re lot of Callagrafx's St David's Hotel. Somewhat more tropical and still being worked on:

Also I have taken fukuda's BATs, made new exemplars and made a mega lot 11x13 growable.

Contructive comments welcome.

Your mega-lot are always very much to my likings  Barby  :thumbsup:

The only thing that bothers me is the row of rounds (at the top end). They are OK at the parking bays at the entrance. But that row of dots gives it a bit of a dice idea  ;)

That was the unfinished lot when I was testing to find the optimum level of jobs. It is not quite so bare now. I am in the final testing process with this but would have liked some input from fukuda. However if nothing is forthcoming I shall release it once the testing is finished.

After a serious pillage I made some new parks. All 2x2 with a variety of configurations. These are LEX exclusives.

@patfirefghtr : I cannot do anything with his other work as they have rail lines and props all built in to the model and as Transit Enabled lots do not upgrade they are not suitable for growables. It is a pity as the basic BATs are good but limited in use.

"...in the fullness of time."

Great phrase!  I've got to start using that one more often.  (sorry... I'm a sucker for "forgotten" words and speach patterns)

Back on topic... very nice parks!  I don't know anyone that can get more variety out of a park than you can.   &apls

Back off topic, "fullnes of time" was a constant gag on the British comedy Yes Minister. When the Minister or his permanent secretary wanted to be non-commital about doing something it was always "in the fullness of time." Oh and the parks look good Barby  :)
Title: Re: BLS Barby's Lot Studio

'Yes, Minister' (and later, Yes Prime Minister), now that brings back some memories of Humphrey's linguistic creative inertia!

As for the object in question: I dare say that the creator of the said, and as yet, un-named building shall, in the fullness of time, release a Final Communiqué to assuage the curiosity so rightly piqued in so many of the viewers of this topic. Anything less would be allowing inconclusive information to which we are not yet privvy to be disseminated without having gone through the appropriate channels; and as well you know, this is a highly discouraged practice.

Oh, and back on topic, the parks and St Davids are really fantastic work! I always find myslef using the 2x2 pieces in park design &apls

:P Actually, I don't mind if someone else lets the cat out of the bag!  :D But I'll do it since so many have asked about it...The structure in question is the Millennium Dome of London. I built this awhile ago to compliment the London Eye (just took me awhile to get around to rendering it). Barby is doing the modding and has lotted two versions, one that fits with the park series and another that fits with SimGoober's canal system. This should make its way to LEX shortly...hopefully  ;D so stay tuned!

That is seriously cool.  My sister sent my parents a gift from the dome.  It was a china model of the dome, with pencils for the... ummm..... what ever they are.  Had to be one of the weirdest souviners I've seen.  But now I get it.
Title: Re: BLS Barby's Lot Studio
Post by: Yoder7652 on February 27, 2007, 05:27:55 AM
the yellow poles are to support the roof...using pencils is sortof cleaver. My first version of this actually had ALL of the accompanying support wires, but when I rendered it the first time I decided to get rid of them. They were very small (in terms of Gmax meshing) but they showed up huge on the rendered model...making a large white blur above the dome. Ahhh, SC4 never did like detail  $%Grinno$%

Ironically I was searching the STEX for the Dome about a day or two ago, and, in good Yoder and Barby fashion...

BAM!!!

Here it is, ready to be unleashed upon the unsuspecting devotees here at SC4D!

It looks fabulous, and I am glad, no, over-joyed to see this having been done.

Although, from my understanding, the RL Dome is facing a bit of trouble... Oh well, no reason for it not to live on in grandeur in SC4, thanks to Yoder!  &apls &apls &apls

Great work with the Lot too Goddess!  :thumbsup:

Support the roof?  The look like they are a little longer than necessary.  Probably someone scaled a dimension wrong on the drawing.

Client: Why are they so big?
Arch: Those... umm... design feature, form follows function and all that... yeah

Later that same day,

Arch: What the hell happened here!?!
Drafty: Ummm yeah... sorry I dimensioned that at 1:100 instead of 1:400, my bad.  Looks interesting though

I am having another attempt to upload some of my lots that are currently locked on the STEX. I intend to upload in groupings rather than individual lots and am currently looking at the mega housing lots. I have 20 individual installers to deal with and for speed I am looking at providing a single new list of dependencies. The stats and information shown in each individual Readme have not changed but the dependency list has. I need to provide the links to all the dependency files and shall then post the list to the LEX for collection prior to downloading the packs. I shall also put a copy of this list in the zip with the individual packs. I hope this will be sufficient but will be here to answer queries if necessary.

I was thinking maybe you could figure this out. I was going to make 2ch.netsimplayer's ricepaddies grow - if you zoned the proper LOT size and used the agriculture. It started to turn out to be an easy task except for one thing. I do not know how to create seasonal cycles with the rice paddies.

2ch.netsimplayer provided the models and also did the proper seasonal cycling it seems - for they have day and starting periods. However you need to translate japanese to make any sense of them. Here's what I figured out so far:

Touki = Winter
Kaki = Summer
Shuuki = Autumn (Fall)

but Kara = ???
And Shunki = ???

There is little to no LOT editing with these, since his models take up the entire LOT. Only on some of the larger ones - but you can just use the XPIM to copy the props over from his LOTs, which I did easily. (iLive doesnt read the files). Yet, I have no clue as to how I should get them seasonally rotating. Thankfully he's done most of the work with the desc. files - unfortunately his naming scheme doesn't tell us which is which very easily.

Nippon Den'en Tambo 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 (Japanese Countysides, Rice Paddy 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8)
1 and 2 are 4x6 paddies with built-in footpaths and trees, 3 is a 8x12 LOT with footpaths, an island and a shrine at the center. 4,5 are plain flat paddies (but different reflection, bush and such), 6 is a 4x8 plain paddy, 7 is a 4x4 plain paddy, 8 is a 4x4 triangular paddy, but the LOT size is 2x2.
Yousuiro (canal, straight)
Yousuiro Kousa (canal, crossing)
Yousuiro Teiji (canal, T-junction)
Yousuiro Magari (canal, corner)
Yousuiro Ikidomari (canal, dead-end)
Yousuiro Azemichi (canal-footpath crossing)
All these 1x1 canal LOTs have the same statistics as Maxis default Playground.

here are the files >>> http://www.yuhisa.com/cgi/c-board/file/NipponDenen.zip

Spring = haru
Summer = natsu
Fall = aki
Winter = fuyu

Timeframe:

haru: February, 4th - Mai, 5th
natsu: Mai, 6th - August, 7th
aki: August, 8th - November, 6th
fuyu: November, 7th - February, 3rd

Naming of the months:

February= kisaragi or nigatsu
March = yayoi or sangatsu

(Now more confusion)
In the traditional japanese calendar, the third month in the year (sangatsu) is very close to "our" April.
sangatsujin = (end of March) = haru no hate ( end of Spring ).

April = uzuki or shigatsu
Mai = satsuki or gogatsu
June = minazuki or rokugatsu
July = fumitsuki or hazuki
August = hazuki or hachigazu
September = nagatsuki or kugatsu
October = j?gatsu or kannazuki
November = shimotsuki or juichigatsu
Dezember = shiwasu or junigatsu
January = mutsuki or ichitagsu

Surumi @ simtropolis helped me out.

*Blows dust off the thread*

Some may have noticed that I have made a set of Mayor Mode ploppables using the SNM Vehicles. This was requested at Peg's site and the request passed on to me.
Having successfully made these I turned my eyes to the other props for the SNM that deadwood made and have a new set to upload eventually. These will be soldiers, shelters and ammunition. I had aplay with these while testing them and this is the result:

Barby...that is outstanding.
Incredible how far we have come with this game.  The amount of details that a person can put into an area/image is mind blowing and you have just made the situation all the better.

I downloaded the Beauborg BAT from the STEX and have relotted it as a museum - which is what it is in real life. I have made a small plaza at the rear of the building to reflect the real one that is there but as the lot is already 11x7 I decided not to make it too big. In real life this square is often used by musicians, acrobats and other street performers. I found some musicians but failed to find any acrobats to place.
This is the front view along the main street:

And the rear with the small plaza:

Very nice, BarbyW!
I didn't realise that the lot was that big already. I think it was a good decision to make the square not too large. Any one who is able to plop a tile will be able to increase the square, if desired....

I saw this on the STEX and was intrigued.  Now I am more so...  :D

Is the real version that garishly colored, or is the model just too bright?

My thoughts exactly - the color is super, super saturated.

Well, the last time I was in paris was before they erected the pyramid in front of the louvre At that time these plans seemed to be kind of really weird to me.

But this one ...  ???

Let me kind of quote a real well known french comic hero:

"Ils sont fous, les francais!"

So that's really a long time ago!
I haven't been in Paris for more than 11 years. The pyramid was there already. I had planned to visit it , but exactly that weekend the personnell of the Louvre decided to strike.... :'(
But the pyramid is really beautiful and the Centre Beaubourg is really worth a visit.
