Title: pauls creations
Post by: squidi on October 01, 2008, 09:37:20 AM
hey guys,
my first idea for a lot
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg230.imageshack.us%2Fimg230%2F5159%2Fzbscq3.jpg&hash=987474eac916beaf6e4970f8c6561bfeb33f62b0)
the basetexture will get different versions to fit some sidewalk styles
a few more props will be added but only dependency will be the textures

i would really like to know what you think of such a lot

I think everyone will love it! It's something rather original in SC4, espessially thanks to the 'lane switching' that occurs.

It's great to have you in ITC, Paul!

Looks good. Will it be functional or just eye candy? Either way, it's a very realistic thing to see around where I live.

oke .. i made the distance for the streetlights bigger and added a few props.
as for the functionality i thought to make it without any functions but if there ideas for them just tell me

Hey squidi, I have a question, where can I get  this texture for the road deviation ? It's your creation ?

Is it possible that you path it just like the way that the cars will be moving on the correct lanes (a TE Lot)? That would be wonderfull!

I don't think that is possible, but it sure would be interesting

It should be possible, but then again, I don't know much about custom paths. ;)

Couldn't the modder doing the pathing just copy the ones over from whichever DAT contains the proper avenue/road transition paths? They should probably match these textures... I personally don't know how to fiddle with paths, though - most of my modding experience has been based on automata and a little tiny bit on prop replacement.

I've done a bit of poking aorund the NAM files, but I haven't had much luck locating the path files yet (don't know exactly the TGI I'm looking for), but it should just be a matter of providing the right IDs and including the path files. I'm short on time now, but it would be something interesting to look into for the future. If someone else wants to give it a go, go right ahead.

to make the lot with pathes would sure be a good addition :)

actually i created an icon and made some dats with different kinds of sidewalk textures.
and thanks to andreas all works fine like you told me
but now i try to create a new UI and this seems to be a difficult part as i never did that

Hey Paul, I just though it might be a good idea to make it in 2 pieces just the ends or something, so the user can make it any lenght they like?

just an idea :) to make an already rather fantastic object better :)

Yes, I tend to agree with Joe that a modular approach would be awesome. In case you wouldn't want to do that, I can always go for the modular approach while you can create some full sets for it.

because my screen had become dameged and as a poor guy without any money to buy a new one i had a little pc break. now a friend buyed a new one and i got his old one XD. even a better one as i had before.

the last days since i got the new one i was playing around with 3dmax.
first i wanted just creat some simple props for some lots but than i did a bat to
learn the functionality of 3dmax
actually i have to find out how to render the bat with the light and shadows fitting to the game ones and how to make nightlight.

below you can see the current progress:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg360.imageshack.us%2Fimg360%2F6735%2Fbatprezv9.jpg&hash=005d0e7da71dc907433752f77b303d3bdbf1b2cb)

it seems that become a bit more complex than i thought first XD

Hello Paul san. Wow, you are using Max! That is pretty cool, I use max7, quite the program. Well, if you are interested in adding these buildings to SC4, just click here (http://www.simtropolis.com/modding/index.cfm?p=details&id=374), this program is called BAT4Max, and it is like the BAT gamepack but for 3ds max. The process of exporting is a bit longer*, but it is worth it in the long-run.

I hope to see more great BATs from you my friend, looks like you already figured out a lot! :)

(*More complicated, but renders/exports WAY WAY faster. ;))

Paul, you do a really great work o that building my friend, I very like it ! BTW , great choice of pubs

mm milka, I like it very much   :D
Title: Re: pauls creations

art:i am glad you like it (the building  :D)

Fatsuhono san, thanks for that link to that pretty tool. it seems to work fine.
but i still have one point i cant understand.
i have no idea what kind of light i have to use and how to place it to get the shadows like the ones in game. and how does the script handle the light to fit it to the 4 angles of view.
when i put a light to get shadows and make a preview the shadows wont fit when i change the viewpoint.
i looked through a lot of threads here and on ST but i havent found anything to this point, so i think i must be stupid somehow XD

would be very nice if someone can help me with that problem.

Beautiful...   you've done a lot better than I have so far! I think that basic daylighting is handled by the BAT plugin though.

Paul's, It's your 1st BAT ?

Because is simply splendid and "magnifique".

Excellent work.

sim-al2: the problem is solveld by downloading a cam and light rig by simfox
so the rig i got from the bat 4 max hadnt any lights  but i still would like to find out how to costomize the rig

Earth quake: jep its the first one and i think half of the time creating it were spent in
finding out how 3dmax is working and making stupid mistakes  :D

some progress:
today i was working on a night scene that wont make me happy (especialy the windows)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg113.imageshack.us%2Fimg113%2F1470%2Fbatpre2mw2.jpg&hash=a872b6f5823eecc6460c2c9ce25f85a52b13b9e3)

i tried a huge amount of different values of the lights and actualy the windows are driving me crazy

Title: Re: pauls creations
Post by: squidi on November 13, 2008, 06:03:36 AM
glad you noticed the lights from it arthur :)

after working so long on the same bat it made me a little ty and i actually started a second one.

a 3 tiles W2W setup with 3 buildings in it
the reason to make 3 at once was to make some not just 16/32..m blocks

the coolest thing on batting is that you get views you will not have in game XD
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg146.imageshack.us%2Fimg146%2F1197%2Fbatpre3qo9.jpg&hash=744f776d9e99a2ee808a42706a7cefc56255340a)

still a lot to do on that

edit: arthur of cause it would fall down to the ground that way  XD
its just unfinished and there will come some poles to fix it on the building

i think that edit was some kind of dispensable XD

Wow Paul! I love it! That hotel sign is looking really good! And remember, if you ever feel like it looks a bit too 'computerish' (mine do), you don't need to worry, it will always look great in-game! Because the brighter tint, and zoom level for SC4 will change that. :)

i am glad you like that little greenhouse. i first wanted to make just an ordinary
terrace and changed later to this idea

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg133.imageshack.us%2Fimg133%2F5556%2Fbatpre6nc5.jpg&hash=58afc6848ee930fecb450b454b1e1b9dfd0962d7)

i think the most of day scene is ready now. i will look if there is something catching my eyes what needs some changes. and of cause its not to late if you have somme suggestions.
it may not have that beauty some more artful designed bats showing.
when i started that bat i was aiming to catch a more function related and urban feeling in it than a kind of artwork and i hope at least i came off that a bit.
because of working with just a basic concept the bat is getting some kind of
self dynamic while working on it and when i started i wanted to have much more commercials on it but now thats a thing the next one will get hopefully.

IMO, the buildings look like a bit too bright. Simply darken some of the textures, and the buildings will look much better. I like what you're making though, Sim City needs more urban W2Ws like this.

arhur: glad you like the stairs. they took me some time
and i am still not really happy with the textures.

papab200: thanks for passing by, and nice to hear you like it

tom: as it is no final render what would make it a bit more brighter i will thinks about you thought. but than i will just change some render settings because i am afraid of changing all the textures XD

sithlrd98: thanks for your compliment :)

emil: nice to see you here and fell free to tell me any suggestions.

fatsuhono: i got just for you some more reflections :D (take some seirous looks on the new picture; there are a lot of them)

i actualy have some problems with my night export and i think i am missing the update4bat and i cant install it because it wont overwrite my moded simcity1.dat
without a backup of it i need my install disc back from a friend and now iam waiting untill it arrives.
in this time i was reading some tutorial to get better modeling skills and save more time while modeling,
i now use much more sub object operations instead of making for everything a new object as had done it before and thats really nice for a faster modeling

the result of my little try outs:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg376.imageshack.us%2Fimg376%2F2086%2Fbp01un3.jpg&hash=af3f799bc53b418beecd63da7de5dc28afbd730c)

of cause you wont see al the details in game and there are even ones you need to be closer to see them.
the wall textures have a resolution of 500px/m what is a bit overdone maybe
but i love to enjoy my little creation after i rendered a close perspectiv view :)

-paul

edit:just one more i actualy rendered

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg381.imageshack.us%2Fimg381%2F9121%2Fbp02px2.jpg&hash=3f5044e3e51b3628a98352a952d5bb78b6486d77)

the stripes on the screen are a nice gimp effect i found

the finished version should include 3 lots.
1 the corner building; 1x2

2 3 buildings with a width of 10m 11m 11m; 2x2

3 all together

i create them for a use next to each other but i will also make a splitted version.
