Title: [WIP/REL] SCAG Boeing 727-200 - Prop Pack Released
Post by: RustyXL on October 08, 2008, 08:06:02 PM
I've started working on a Boeing 727-200. I'll be making a regular version, one with winglets, and maybe a cargo version with an open cargo door.

Fatsuhono: Well I mostly just move vertexes around to get the shape I want, but you could also try using a smooth modifier.

I've finished the main parts of the plane, now I'm going to start working on the landing gear and other details.

WOW! Rusty, this is beautiful. Very talented for creating an airliner my friend! Lovely work!

To make the jets, you make a cylinder with several segments, and use the scale tool to change the properties at different ends?
Title: Re: Boeing 727-200
Post by: RustyXL on October 10, 2008, 05:18:51 PM
Thanks! Yes, to make the jet engines you use a cylinder and scale and move the sections around to get it into the right shape. That technique works on most parts of the plane actually. Of course you'll still have to adjust a few parts manually, but it makes it much easier.
Title: Re: Boeing 727-200
Post by: pilotdaryl on October 10, 2008, 05:22:11 PM
Woah!  That looks interesting!  Nice! ;D
I think you should remake your engines.   I do not use cylinders for engines, but I use similar things called "tubes" ;) this way, instead of having a flat front it looks realistic.  The way I create the engine shape is the same as how you described.
Title: Re: Boeing 727-200
Post by: RustyXL on October 10, 2008, 05:52:04 PM
I guess I'll try that and see how it looks that way. It's not really flat though, it actually has an interior thats black. It looks flat in that pic because of the angle.
Title: Re: Boeing 727-200
Post by: Fatsuhono on October 10, 2008, 05:53:13 PM
Nevertheless it is indisputable in quality!

Post by: simsmart on October 10, 2008, 07:13:41 PM
Nice start you have there!

I know it's a bit early, but would it be possible to make a modified version with different sized engines and wingtips?
Title: Re: Boeing 727-200
Post by: RustyXL on October 10, 2008, 08:00:18 PM
simsmart: If I get a diagram for the larger engines I'll make them. I was already planning on making a version with winglets so once I'm done with the basic plane I'll add them.

I'm mostly finished with the modelling, but I'm not sure how many small details I should add. A lot of it wouldn't be noticeable in the game so can you guys let me know if there's a detail that you think I should add?
Here's how it looks right now:

Lights, antennas, those little arrows on the top of the plane...
Lot's of details bud!  Have a look at some real-life pictures of the 727 and you'll see.
Looking awesome, by the way! ;D  I might be able to do some extra work for you (such as shape fixing, etc.), as well as teach you more about how I make my planes.
Title: Re: Boeing 727-200
Post by: RustyXL on October 10, 2008, 08:26:57 PM
Are those details really going to be noticeable in the game? I don't want to spend a lot of time getting a small part right and then find out it isn't even noticeable.
Title: Re: Boeing 727-200
Post by: pilotdaryl on October 10, 2008, 08:49:20 PM
Yup. If you take a look at my MD-80, some lights and antennae on the top of the fuselage appear very clear.  I do leave some details though that of course won't be seen in-game such as the same antennae that are on the bottom of the fuselage.

Fashuhono: I'm definately going to be doing FedEx, it's one of my favorite 727 paint schemes  ;D  I just need to make some new engine models first.

I've finished the textures for everything execpt the wings now, once that gets done I'll start making actual paint schemes.

Wonderfull job, Simsmart &apls; I've flown with an Air Algerie's 727 in the beginning '90 and I remember the all the cushions were separable $%Grinno$%.

Air France used those beautifull liners before the color switch, here is one of those with the old paint scheme :

Nice! Maybe, the wing looks a bit bluey. And possibly might want some subtle lines to show where the control surfaces are. Otherwise its looking very nice.

Post by: pilotdaryl on August 09, 2009, 10:39:36 PM
Custom wing textures, excellent.  I don't really think the wing looks that blue at all, though it is a bit simple and lacking some subtle lines to show control surfaces like Joel said.  Nicely done, though.

Also, just a thought: Its really great to have so much going on in SCAG right now. Now we can only hope thans Fatsuhono returns to finish off those fokkers.

Looking great so far
The only thing that looks a little awkward to me is the wing root area. It looks as ift the leading edges are curved in the wrong direction. There should be a Leading Edge Root Extension there, not a curve towards the back. Apart from that, GREAT!!! My favourite Tri-Jet coming to SC4!!!!  &apls

My apologies if this is not the appropriate place to request liveries...but I've been looking all over for high-quality 727s and this is looking incredible!

What airline liveries did you have in mind for the 727 Project?

I was curious if you could make liveries for FedEx, G-Force (The Zero G Experience), and some of the vintage Braniff International Airways colors for the 727?

Again, real excited that you are working on the 727s and can't wait to see the end result!

Stay Fab!

This aircraft has the advantage of being able to carry either vintage or modern paint schemes. I can't wait to read the list of those &hlp.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi181.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fx91%2FRusty_XL%2F727-200United1.jpg&hash=bdfd32e2f57882a9531fe782bb4a3b27ec01acc6)

Here's the current list of liveries I'm planning to do:
Air Canada
Pacific Southwest
United
Lufthansa
Iberia
Braniff
FedEx
Pan Am
TWA
Zero-G

I'm planning on making at least 20-25 liveries altogether, so I'll take some requests for real world airlines. Let me know if you have any requests and if you can please provide a picture.

I'd like to see some business variants too :) like this one with blended winglets: http://www.airliners.net/search/photo.search?regsearch=4K-8888&distinct_entry=true

Also, DHL is a big operator of the -200Adv/F: http://cdn-www.airliners.net/aviation-photos/photos/0/9/4/1555490.jpg

A question: do you make only a version for usiong with gates, or are there any plans for a parking one with extended stairs (in the aircrafts back) / without extended stairs?

btw: I like the wing textures ;D

The United livery looks good! Do you plan to make an HD version of this jet? Also, do you plan on making newer liveries of airlines which used to have this plane, before they changed liveries, a United with the blue and white livery for instance? I would be keen to contibute a few liveries if you want as well. Maybe I could make some airlines from Australasia/Pacific such as Ansett Australia, Australian Airlines, Air Nauru as well as Qantas and Air New Zealand if you are open to ones that never actually used the plane.

Very nicely done!  I think while I'm not working on the 777 I just might have some time to whip up a few liveries for this baby. ;D  Ask me if you need anything.

I love PSA!

I would also ask for PanAm, Piedmont, and also PeoplExpress. They just had a very unique and special livery.

http://www.airliners.net/photo/PEOPLExpress/Boeing-727-227-Adv/1308839/L/&sid=c81347f34484b8e300343268877865ee (http://www.airliners.net/photo/PEOPLExpress/Boeing-727-227-Adv/1308839/L/&sid=c81347f34484b8e300343268877865ee)

I would also ask for American Airlines in the exposed Aluminum body and maybe even Alaska Airlines.

Those would be my big ones to join your current livery line-up.

Would you also consider making some private liveries...e.g. Private Jets in the BBJ guise? The 727 always made the best looking private jet.

Stay Fab!

Everyones requests have been added to the list and I'll get to them when I have time.

Delta ²k5: I probably will make a model with extended airstairs.

joelyboy911: I probably won't be making an HD version of the 727. I exported one in HD to see how it looked but it didn't look very good in zoom 5 and IMO it's not worth it if zoom 5 doesn't look good. I might make a few modern liveries that weren't on the 727 in real life after I'm done with the real life liveries.

RG59061: Alright, they've been added to the list. I'm not sure how the American Airlines livery will turn out though, that aluminum shine might be hard to replicate. Yes, once I finish the airline liveries I'll do some 727 BBJs.

Tonight I just finished 2 more liveries, FedEx and United Airlines 90's livery:

Cool. I'll make the ones I listed, and you can use whichever ones you like - I will in no way be offended or upset if you cut some. As for HD its your call really - I did ATRs as both, and it means twice as much of the tedious work (why the lots arent released already) - might re-evaluate for this time around.

I'm loving the FedEx, but IMO you might need (as much of a nuisance as it is) to check that the colours match AC teams FedEx planes, the fact of the single colour makes slight variations from plane to plane can stand out heaps. I think it needs a tiny bit more red, and less saturation.

Also, do you have a texture set already made I could look at for reference making mine? I'm not clear on where the outlines of the parts are.

That's great :) and how about one with blended winglets? Some privat 727-200 and the planes of AmeriJet (Zero-G) are flying around with those winglets. I think it's looking really sexy :D

That's weird, I found when I tested an HD render of the 777 it looked very nice on zoom 6, as well as zoom 5 (didn't look bad on zoom 5 at all imo).  I might also create an SD version of the 777 however, though I don't really see any benefits or downsides with creating both versoins.  Anyways, good luck and we'll be fine whatever rendering method you choose.  Also, looking really good!  Any chance of a classic Pan-Am livery coming soon? $%Grinno$%

joelyboy911: I tweaked the colors on the FedEx a little and now it's pretty close to the AC team's colors. It matches the real life color better too.

Delta ²k5: I'm definately going to make one with winglets. I'll start working on the private 727s after I'm done with the airline liveries.

pilotdaryl: Well some models do look good in HD in zoom 5, but mine just looks ok in zoom 5. I might still make an HD version though, I'll see. Yeah, but I'm not sure how soon.

Here's how the updated FedEx livery looks:

lol, Air France on a 727! Don't wanna be pushy but I'd love to see Southwest Airlines on the 727. SWA only uses 737's now but back in the late '80's and early '90's SWA had a fleet of 727's and I want to see that again. Thanks and BTW those modles look unbelievable and I don't know how you make such accurate models. ;)

What's your pb with Air France ()what()???? I understand that, since you live in the USA (Philly ??), you have more memories with Southwest than with Air France but the truth is, some people live outside your borders ;) and have memories with this very nice liner too....

Plus, Air France is now the largest airline company in the world in terms of total operating revenues, and also the largest in the world in terms of passenger-kilometres (Google "Air France/KLM").

BTW, TY Rusty XL for this awesome livery . Hope you'll find time to make the old one too &hlp.

Tre magnifique!

I love the Air France livery...very very nice! Clean, elegant, simple...just perfect! FedEx is looking even better than before.

I'm getting anxious and can't wait to see what else you have put together!

This is my most eagerly awaited airliner pack to date!

I'm also with Une_ame, I'd love to see the older, retro 60s Air France livery on the 727...if that is not too much to ask for later.

Keep up the great work!

Thanks for all the positive comments everyone.

Philadelphia: I was considering making a Southwest Airlines livery so now I'll definately make it.

Une_ame & RG59061: I will be making a livery in Air France's old colors but I'm not not sure when.

Here are the latest liveries, Air Canada:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi181.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fx91%2FRusty_XL%2F727-200AirCanada1.jpg&hash=d8286be3fa0016cbc8050130878b7022d14e3191)

and Zero-G:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi181.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fx91%2FRusty_XL%2F727-200ZeroG1.jpg&hash=8cfc0c549be57edd2000d8cc50115cdeba609802)

The Zero-G livery will have winglets once I make the winglet models.

Thanks as well for making the Retro Air France livery...be a nice addition to my airports...as a museum piece in the US. Will these have air stairs lotted with them on the Port Door? Or the rear air-stairs extended?

I'm curious.

Thank you again Rusty for this fantastic kit! I can not wait for in game shots...and to have this pack when it is finished!

If you look at say a Boeing 747-400 or any of the new 737s and see the small, vertical fins that are attached to the end of each wing, those are called Winglets. They help increase efficiency of the wing itself. I'll include a picture here of Boeing's 737-700 to illustrate.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.boeing.com%2Fcompanyoffices%2Fgallery%2Fimages%2Fcommercial%2F737700_k62995.jpg&hash=269a34d9add1f31a619d64423058a9b35f6783da)

The 727 Advanced had somewhat smaller winglets on the ends of its wings...but the idea is still the same.

Hope that clears it up. Happy to answer any other questions if anyone has more.

I recall that Lufthansa also painted one of her 727s in her new (present) colors in th early 1990s, just prior to phasing them out. Any chance of a new coloured LH 727 coming?

And yes, the blue could be a touch darker...

The Lufthansa...does need to be a touch darker. It looks really good as it is, but the actual color is darker...

Sorry to post so late in the process, but I thought this project was defunct, so I´m happy to see that it is still alive.
If possible I would very much like to see a Sterling version of the aircraft as well.
Due to Airliners.net´s policy about posting pics off their site I only provide this url (http://www.airliners.net/photo/Sterling-Airways/Boeing-727-270-Adv/1096710/M/).

I also made 3 new liveries, Lufthansa's new colors:

That looks awesome!

All planes can hold cargo, including the 727.

But to carry a LCD pallet, it has to be converted into a cargo aircraft with the cabin stripped. Even if its a passenger plane, it still carries cargo below deck. How else would they carry passenger baggages? As well as passenger baggage doesn't take up the entire underside of a aircraft so it carries other cargoes to maximize profitability.

@Kumba: by "cargo" I meant LD3s or LD2s. Of course the plane carries luggage.

@Delta: I had already checked up on cargo and found out for myself that it does indeed carry cargo. I'm not sure which liveries Rusty wants done yet. I also do not know if he has made a cargo variant so hold-your-horses evryone. :P

The 727 (and by development the 737) are not able to take what is called "Containerised Luggage". This is when all of the passengers' bags and things are put into aeroplane cargo containers also called ULDs or Unit Load Devices. The LD3 and LD2 are examples of ULD Containers. The A320 on the other hand can take containerised cargo, though not all airlines utilise this ability. Obviously it has its pros and cons as some airlines use the containers and some don't. On widebodies however containerised is the norm as the plane can carry a lot more cargo than just the passenger's bags, and unloading all those bags one at a time from the belly of the plane would be too time-consuming.

Air Canada
Pacific Southwest
United
Lufthansa
Iberia
Braniff
FedEx
Pan Am
TWA
Zero-G

The tail alignment (not exactly the same as the tail slope degree), and the black on the front.

Yes, you're right. I think the reason that not much people post here is that they don't have a clue when it comes to aircrafts. Or they are even not interested in them ::) I know this problem very good, because I'm making a Bell 407 Helicopter for GTA IV at the moment... I would like to reply, but as Delta says not everyone is interested. I like them a lot, they are very good, but they're are old and used by airliners which I don't know. I think that's one of the mayor reasons not a lot of people reply to his project, but they will download it, because they look very, very good. My compliments!

The 727 is old, but good enough for cargo operations. Also some people use the 727 as some kind of business jet. Many 727 had been refitted with new winglets and new engines (727-200adv (RE) ). For example this nice one... she's still a beauty!

To reduce the noise of the old 727's they were first equipped with hushkits, but this wasn't the best solution. So many 727's were reengined wit Rolls - Royce Tay 651 engines. Before they were equipped with Pratt & Whitney JT8D - 15/17 or 17R engines (727-200 Advanced) and even before this happend they had  JT8D-1/7 or 9.

please compare:

RE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTWBpaKle-Y

Adv. (with hushkits): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruWN4TM3pRk

you can also see the difference when you have a look on the DHL engines and on Nomads (The silver "Pipes" at the end of the DHL are the mentioned hushkits)

@Portlandexpos: I don't know if they did, but once I'm done with DHL, I'm free to do my own liveries. One of which is my personal favorite (custom-made-by-me). And, I've finished Air France in its old livery! However, I previewed it in HD. I don't quite remember if Rusty is planning to do them in HD or not, but I would seriously reccommend he do it. The Z5 quality is slightly improved with the colors and Z6 looks amazing.

And the RL (http://www.airliners.net/photo/Air-France/Boeing-727-228/1399320/L/&sid=4e48c5f7783e8535f0fe387d05dd19ed) version of it. Also, Ive fixed the smile on PSA and will be showing it along with DHL when finished. ;) Some of the liveries I plan to do are:

- A private jet or two (if I can get it right).
- AirCal (if one)
- Nomad
- C-22B (US Air Force/Atrubian Air Force ;))
-A special Budget livery of my own creation.
- UPS (I'll discuss this one with Rusty in case he has made it)
- Delta Air Lines Wavy Flag Tail (maybe)
- Delta Air Lines (newest tail)
- AirTran is also a possibility.

Whew! I better get crackin'!

Excellent Work! (BTW.... after a quick lookup to confirm my memory, AirCal never flew 727's)

True that. I'd also love to see an Adria airways texture (with a little Cargo emblem somewhere near Adria).
If you would be kind enough to do it I would be most grateful.

More planes!

DHL.

A USAF C-22B (Boeing 727-200).

The C-22B: Something so simple turns out to be a pain in the "a."

And Joel's Ansett Australia.

Hope y'all like 'em!

Alex

Looking good, but i think you need to darken the yellow and red on the DHL. Try looking at AC's DHL 757 to get a better idea.

Alrighty. I thought it was too bright. I'll try another texture. ;) And I've got two more!

Delta with the flag tail.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi587.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fss315%2FDriftmaster07%2FDeltaBoeing727-200-1.png&hash=8dce3fdf2741d2b6ad6369c2712b1c258d8f76f4)

And the newest Delta livery. My presonal favorite tail.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi587.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fss315%2FDriftmaster07%2FDeltaBoeing727-200New.png&hash=db7c568f4fe6a6d3a3be4ead5bdcf4351faef43f)

Joel, sorry about not showing your Ansett sooner. I forgot about it.

A little history on Air Tran: THEY SUCK. Lol, I'm kidding. You may know Air Tran as the former Valujet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ValuJet_Airlines). They merged with Airways Corporation to form Air Tran Airways.

Really neat -- finally the 60's and 70's aren't left out from the airports! And yes, Sterling is halfway bust, or bust twice already. The 727 livery is from the first Sterling Airways company, which focused on charter tours, and went bankerupt in 1992. A year later the company flew again as Sterling European Airways, and was shortly after bought by a Norwegian freight company and in 2005 by an Icelandic investing group (FL Group, which owns Icelandair).

Sterling Airlines, which the low fares company was later called, went bust again in autumn 2008. Norwegian bought out slots previously held by Sterling, while Cimber took the few assets remaining including the brand (and now flies as Cimber Sterling with a part regional / part low fares structure).

Yes it is late. No they probably won't make it. Just be thankful for the great things they have worked hard to release and stop asking for more than they are capable of.

Sorry to go on a rant, but it must be said.

I agree with Cyclone, however Joel has 'suggested' that after he release of the current projects he might do something that the AC Team is doing. A requesting thing. Seeing that this pack looks pretty full, that might be an alternative.

Yes, I'm a now Citizen :P

I'm sorry to say that nobody is really working on this project at the moment...  &mmm And they aren't likely to be included in a request package either for that reason. Unfortunately (in some respects) I will be retiring/withdrawing from BATting in a little while - I have a bigger, badder world to operate in. I'm leaving home and going to University, Law school actually. When/if I offer a requests pack, I will have make it pretty small, something like the first 15 or so aircraft requested. But I'd like to make it a big final bash! I'll be making a decision on the whole concept of a requests pack in the next few days.

But.... But.... It said no longer INA !!

Just kidding $%Grinno$%

We understand... But I am really excited about those 15 requests.

Best of luck for Uni :P

Hmm... I somehow missed the reply from RustyXL - so I don't really know what's happening on this project  :-\

Great management from the team leader...  $%Grinno$%

I've finally got some time to work on this project again. So far I've rendered the non jetway versions of all the paint schemes that me and skyliner have done:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi181.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fx91%2FRusty_XL%2F727update021812-01.jpg&hash=bbfe36094ec90995a46868adf4b68adf28073256)

And thanks to Joel there's now a jetway version with nightlights:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi181.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fx91%2FRusty_XL%2F727update021812-02.jpg&hash=4c7d6cd1c913dede7dfc1f2c4bb2f87f73600a4a)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi181.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fx91%2FRusty_XL%2F727update021812-03.jpg&hash=bcc887a31ac4aeb8ef3bbe9e5a3d696d20a3673f)

I've also rendered all the non cargo paint schemes that me and skyliner have done with jetways. Next I'm going to render all the paint schemes that Joel and KoV Liberty have made, then I'll start working on lots.

If I'm not mistaken, there was an Eastern livery being put into the pack.

Jack: Alex is right, there will be an Eastern livery included, here is a picture of it:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi181.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fx91%2FRusty_XL%2F727-200Eastern.jpg&hash=c76a4752ebe53eb38ef52fa7ab222291a06d44af)

I just finished rendering the rest of the liveries:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi181.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fx91%2FRusty_XL%2F727update022712.jpg&hash=2a45bc8a4fbdfeb0674c12952c47fa6429923114)

Now I'm going to package all the planes into a prop pack, and then I'll start working on jetway lots.

THX for the pic RustyXL...

Like it  ...

also, how aware are you of Eastern livery  %confuso as in, I would like one of the 'shiny stainless' look but don't know which aircraft sported that look...  &Thk/(  BUT I also am aware of your game plans and the present status on requests so its not an issue, just wondering ???

Not quite sure who made the livery (since this project has been passed down through so many) but all I know is, it is really very difficult to create a stainless steel look in SC4. Joel has got that look down, but it seems to be different for every plane. Next time I get a hold of him I'll see about asking him how he does his stainless steel look and maybe get the knowledge to do them on my own. And, time willing, I'll get a stainless steel one done for you guys.

Alex

All I can say for sure is that the prop pack will be released by the end of this month. I'm not sure when the lots will be ready.

The prop pack is now ready for download. Download it here. (http://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/27559-scag-boeing-727-200-prop-pack-1/)

I'll start working on the lots soon, I'll post some pictures once I've made some progress with them.
